Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 50: 50 go to the market

Jiang Xinyu, satisfied with finding the answer she wanted, returned home content.

The next day, after breakfast, she put on her coat and went to the market.

Although it was already the last month of the lunar year, the market was not crowded—not because there were few people shopping, but because there were few sellers. You could say in such a large market, there wasn’t even a single vendor selling food.

Jiang Xinyu walked around and bought four curtains for putting dumplings, two brooms, two kitchen brooms, one large dustpan, and one small dustpan.

Seeing a sieve for food (made of tile to set at the bottom of a pot for baking bread on the sides), she bought one, and also bought two tile basins, one large and one small clay pot. These filled her baskets.

Luckily, she saw the carpenter who had sold her the large wooden basin last time.

”Master, I want to ask, can you make a bath barrel and a foot basin?”

”I can make them. But it takes time, ten days to complete.”

”Master, what’s the largest size you can make?”

”The tallest is one meter, but you wouldn’t use that, you aren’t that tall.”

”Master, I want one meter, I can just use less water. How much to custom make one?”

”At least thirty, that’s the cost price.”

”Master, that’s too expensive.”

”Not expensive. This wood isn’t ordinary, and the bath barrel’s bottom needs to have a water outlet. It takes special work; if I do it alone, it will take a month.”

”Master, I’ll order a foot basin too. How much is it?”

”The foot basin is at least ten each; if you want two, I can give you two small stools as a gift. Really can’t go lower.

People don’t usually use what you want; we have to prepare new materials.”

”Will you deliver them?”

”Where to deliver them?” He didn’t recognize Jiang Xinyu anymore; she’s changed so much over this month, and she’s bundled up tightly now.

”Can you deliver to the county?”

”Too far, add two more dollars and I can deliver them; I’ll need a cart to do that.”

Jiang Xinyu thought for a moment, ”Master, do you still have any large wooden basins at home?”

”I have some, those are ready-made.”

”Alright, I’ll order one bath barrel, one foot basin, two large wooden basins, and two medium wooden basins; you’ll deliver them to me.”

”Large wooden basin is seven dollars, medium is five and a half. You are buying many things, so I’ll give you four small stools.”

”Alright, when can you deliver? Where do I find you?”

”Deliver on the fifth day of the last lunar month; wait on the road on the fifteenth, I’ll bring the cart to deliver them to the county for you.”

”Alright, altogether how much? Should I pay in full now?”

”It’s sixty-five in total, you don’t have to add money; I’ll deliver them for free. Just a thirty-five deposit first.”

”Alright, I’ll wait here at nine in the morning on the fifteenth.” Jiang Xinyu handed thirty-five to the carpenter. In this era, people shouldn’t be scammers; last time she bought the big wooden basin from him, he seemed like he did this for a long time.

Jiang Xinyu achieved her goal, hurried and went home with her baskets. She now only had twenty-four dollars left, afraid she’d spend it all. She just wanted to buy everything.

While no one was on the road, she put the sieve, tile basins, and clay pots into her space; it felt much lighter this way.

Now is the time to grow your body; avoid carrying heavy items if possible.

After returning home, she quickly started a fire to cook. She wanted to eat fish, but there was none prepared in her space.

On the eighth day, Jiang Xinyu warmed a can of eight-treasure porridge in the morning, tidied up the tree branches in the yard, tying them up. Waiting for a chance to send them to the county.

At ten in the morning, suddenly she heard the pig’s howl. Jiang Xinyu was excited; in two days, they can slaughter the pig.

After eagerly waiting, it finally was the tenth. Jiang Xinyu felt her breakfast wasn’t tasty. She found it funny; after being here, her previously suppressed personality fully emerged.

If it were her past life, no matter how much she wanted, she wouldn’t show it. Was this because she held it back for so long?

When she heard the pig’s howl, Jiang Xinyu put on her coat to go out and join the bustle.

There isn’t much to see in slaughtering pigs—rather bloody—but Jiang Xinyu couldn’t resist her craving; for the sake of food, she found pig slaughtering wasn’t that terrifying.

The village had over a thousand people, how much could each get from slaughtering two pigs this year?

If they were slaughtering last year, everyone could still eat pig slaughtering dishes, but this year there’s nothing left; looking at Tian Shulan leading women making blood tofu, Jiang Xinyu found it interesting.

She didn’t like eating it previously, although there’s the saying you are what you eat, Jiang Xinyu couldn’t stomach it.

”Xinyu, you’re here to watch the excitement?” Tian Shulan saw Jiang Xinyu and chatted with intention of being cordial, learning from Yiteng.

”Aunt, is the pig blood also distributed?”

”How could it be distributed? It’s sold.”

”How much for a piece? Or a basin?”

”One dollar a basin.”

”What about the pig offal? Is this sold?” Jiang Xinyu’s eyes sparkled.

”Indeed, the pig head and tail can’t be sold; on the fifteenth, the village will offer them to gods, hoping for favorable weather next year.

The rest can be sold, do you want to buy it?”

”Yes, Aunt, I want to buy the offal, how much for a set?”

”Three dollars a set.”

”Aunt, if no one wants it, I’ll take it all.” In her past life, she used to clean pig intestines, so she’s familiar with it.

”Alright, likely no one will want it, I’ll talk to your uncle later and arrange for it.”

”Okay, thank you, Aunt. How long until the meat is divided?”

”Soon, wait a bit; I’ll first check with your uncle if anyone has pre-ordered it.”

”Okay, I’ll wait here for you.”

”Sure, be back soon.”

Tian Shulan found Kong Zhongyou and told him about Jiang Xinyu wanting the pig offal.

”No orders, if she wants it, give it to her. Ask her, if she wants the pig head, wait until after the offering to sell it for two each.”

Jiang Xinyu knew the pig head was offered to her, even happier.

”Fine, Aunt, I’ll take them all; planning to take it back to the county, invite Director Wei for dinner, for the help provided.”

”Exactly, you’re a sensible child; no worries, I’m not busy later. I’ll help you clean the intestines later.” Tian Shulan laughed, showing teeth.

”No need, I can do it myself; it’s too cold to let you suffer.”

”Alright, if you need help, come find me.”

Jiang Xinyu replied, smiling, ”Aunt, I’ll go find my tools first. Be back for the meat distribution.”

”Go, your family gets three portions of pork.”

Jiang Xinyu said a few more things with a smile before leaving.

Now with more meat, her space still had meat, she could make sausage.
