Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

Chapter 255. Goal: Sage Realm, the World Rejoices, a Rumor

After giving out instructions to Elder Ji and the others, Lu Yuan headed back to his residence with Jiang Ningxian walking beside him. Uncle Jiang trailed behind them, and he looked so unremarkable that no one would have guessed that he had just stood alone against twelve Lesser Sages in outer space.

”Qingyu, what are you staring at?” Ice Fairy asked. She was about to leave with the rest of the group when she noticed Zhu Qingyu’s gaze lingering on the retreating figures of Lu Yuan and Jiang Ningxian.

Zhu Qingyu looked slightly dazed. ”Rourou, don’t you think... they suit each other pretty well?”

The Ice Fairy blinked, seemingly oblivious to the meaning behind her words as she nodded. ”Fairy Jiang is a descendant of a great clan in the Outer Cosmos. Her background is anything but simple.

”Meanwhile, King Lu has supreme talent, an unyielding temperament, and unmatched strength. They really do have a lot in common.”

She genuinely believed that the two suited each other. She also knew Jiang Ningxian was far more than she appeared on the surface. After all, the Jiang Clan was a major power in the universe.

Moreover, the only person who could help King Lu during the recent ordeal was none other than Jiang Ningxian.

Zhu Qingyu’s gaze changed slightly upon hearing that, but she said nothing as she turned around to leave.

On the way back to his residence, Lu Yuan glanced at Jiang Ningxian and said, ”Thank you for your help this time.”

”Do we really need to say things like that to each other?” Jiang Ningxian responded, smiling. ”We’re friends, aren’t we? And our goals are the same. You don’t have to be so polite.”

Jiang Ningxian’s stunning face was full of warmth, making her appear beautiful enough to make anyone lose their breath for a moment. Moreover, her words were sincere.

Jiang Ningxian was starting to feel something different toward Lu Yuan.

”Mmhm.” Lu Yuan nodded without saying more, but he carved her actions in his mind. Some things could not be expressed through words alone, and actions mattered more than words. Hence, if there was ever a chance to repay it in the future, he would not hesitate to do so.

Before long, the two returned to their respective residence.

The injured Lu Yuan went directly into seclusion, and his goal was to reach the Sage Realm. Outside his courtyard, squads of soldiers patrolled in constant rotation, ensuring that no one would be able to disturb him.

”Saintess, by my estimate, the Holy Son will reach the Milky Way Starfield anytime soon,” Uncle Jiang said, relaying the latest information he had received from the Jiang Clan.

”I know. I hope he behaves himself when the time comes.” Jiang Ningxian nodded, then slowly extended her hand. Her fair arm gave off a unique aura beneath the sunlight, and threads of light flowed across her skin.

”The Separation of Heaven and Earth has weakened even further. They still can’t descend in full force, but stronger individuals will start appearing from here on out,” Jiang Ningxian added, frowning slightly. She seemed worried, though not about herself nor about her clan.

Uncle Jiang instantly noticed that. He had been by her side for a long time now, after all.

She’s worried about Lu Yuan, isn’t she? Uncle Jiang let out a quiet sigh. It’s not really something unexpected.

Given the difference in their status, however, it wasn’t his place to make any remarks about it.

Neither of them spoke further after that, but both of them were aware that the future was only going to become even darker. Even a clan as powerful as the Jiang couldn’t dare to say that they could place everything under their control.

Just like that, time passed by bit by bit.

The world was waiting anxiously for any news about the outcome of the decisive battle in outer space. When the projections of those massive planets had vanished, most people believed that the crisis was temporarily averted, but none of them could say for certain.

However, it all changed when the beings from the Outer Cosmos heard news from their clans.

The Immortals’ plan had failed, and they had also suffered serious injuries, thanks to the Separation of Heaven and Earth. Some of the Immortals were even forced into seclusion to mend their injuries.

Indeed, Earth’s sages of antiquity had left behind a formidable way to deter invaders. Even though it had weakened drastically due to the ruthless passage of time, it remained strong enough to severely injure Immortals.

The news stunned the beings from the Outer Cosmos; they could not believe it at all. The Immortals from the top one hundred starfields had intervened, but the plan still ended up in failure, and at the hands of a mere Venerable King at that!

Prior to all of this, no one would believe that a Venerable King could rout Immortals, but the undeniable facts before them left no room for any shadow of a doubt.

Left with no choice, the invaders went silent. Without a safe passageway, the powerful members of their clans wouldn’t be descending anytime soon. In addition, Lu Yuan was too strong for them to handle.

The news soon reached the ears of Earth’s Awakened and ordinary citizens. The officials then announced that the beings from the Outer Cosmos’ plan for a full-scale invasion was thwarted.

Of course, it was all because of King Lu.

The world erupted into cheers, and the Awakened roared with excitement. They had all been living with a constant sense of foreboding in their hearts since those massive ancestral planets were projected above Earth.

They had believed it was only a matter of time before this world became the backyard of those from the Outer Cosmos. By then, the natives of this planet would face oppression from the formidable invaders.

The bleak future even forced quite a few people to defect to the invaders’ side.

To resolve the crisis, Lu Yuan rushed out of Earth and took the fight to them, but only a few believed that he could actually succeed. The enemies were simply too strong and too many.

Despite the odds, however, King Lu had done it. He had truly resolved the crisis.

His name echoed across the globe once more. The people chanted King Lu’s name, declaring him the undisputed first among all Awakened. His actions had lifted an immense weight from the shoulders of many.

Some went even further, declaring that Lu Yuan absolutely deserved his title ”Human Sovereign.” Everyone knew that since the Global Awakening, the world had faced crisis after crisis, and Lu Yuan had resolved every single one of them.

It was an extraordinary feat. The words ”Human Sovereign” couldn’t be used in vain, as the weight of these two words was too great for anyone to bear.

However, things were different now. Based on merit alone, Lu Yuan deserved his title. Moreover, the citizens and the Awakened believed that since Lu Yuan had saved their lives again and again, he was definitely a Human Sovereign. If he weren’t one, who would be?

People began traveling to Mount Tai of their own accord, hoping to see Lu Yuan in person and offer their gratitude to him. At the same time, the Awakened who were hesitant to join the Celestial Court because of their unwillingness to be restricted voluntarily joined the Celestial Court, eager to follow Lu Yuan.

The beings from the Outer Cosmos were aware of all that, and they all thought that the people of Earth were blowing things out of proportion. After all, they were even throwing around the title ”Human Sovereign” in such a careless way.

Were they not worried that Lu Yuan couldn’t bear the weight of that title?

Over the past eons across the universe, how many beings were ever proclaimed to be a ”Sovereign”?

In their eyes, Lu Yuan did not deserve it. Of course, none of them dared to say so out loud, as they were afraid of provoking him.

At the same time, they sighed and grumbled among themselves. They had thought the days of being suppressed were finally over, but who could have known that the outcome would be so markedly different from what they thought?

The whiplash between hope and despair was almost too much to endure.

The jubilant air all over the world, however, did not last long. A few days later, the excitement faded away, and it was all thanks to a piece of news.

It didn’t come from the official channels. Instead, it was a rumor, a whisper that started as a mere breeze that grew stronger until it became a typhoon blowing across the world.

Apparently, Lu Yuan was gravely wounded during the battle in outer space, and he teetered precariously on the brink of death.
