She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 395: Chapter 394: Dying for the Princess Is Your Honor 14

”What if one isn’t calm?” Ah Chen replied.

Of course, she truly wasn’t afraid, she had the ability to be fearless.

However, for any ordinary person facing such a situation, being afraid is understandable; it’s not something to be mocked. Fear is an emotion humans experience.

”Things here are not as simple as you think; it’s not about just not being afraid.” Facing a beautiful person, Song Wenyu seldom felt a bit of pity, ”The more you act like this, the more they want to see fear on your face. Of course, when you do show fear, they find you more interesting and enjoy watching you be afraid.”

”You all play such peculiar games,” Ah Chen commented, ”It’s unlike what humans would do.”

”Are you trying to say that the Bei Qi Royal Family are beasts?” Song Wenyu asked with amusement.

Ah Chen shook her head, saying, ”Even beasts can’t come up with such tricks.” She laughed and scolded, ”My meaning is that they are worse than beasts. Even calling them beasts would insult the animals. Beasts are not rational, they only follow their instincts. How bad can they be without intelligence?”

Yet, these Bei Qi royals, who’ve been literate from a young age, behave this way. Truly, they are worse than beasts. Whenever I scour through a thick dictionary, it feels like all the abusive words still do not sufficiently describe them.

Song Wenyu found it intriguing and refreshing. It was the first time someone had said they were worse than beasts. He could already imagine how excited his siblings would be; they now had something to play with. Alas, given the way they play, the Nan Qi Princess might not last long before being ruined, which was quite a pity.

Such an interesting beauty, her best years should be spent in his backyard.

”I’ll come see you another day.” Song Wenyu left, afraid that if he stayed any longer, he would take her to his backyard, which would anger everyone, something he couldn’t afford to bear.

Ah Chen came to the door and said to the guard, ”I should be able to go out for a walk, right?”

The guard hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

No matter how cunning the Nan Qi Princess was, she was already in Bei Qi, so escaping was impossible. Let alone escaping from Bei Qi, even getting out of this Lanxin Garden would be difficult.

Lu Zhu and Hong Zhu were about to follow her, but Ah Chen stopped them: ”You two go back to the room, don’t run around, I’m going for a walk alone.”

The two of them were beautiful, and if seen, they would certainly attract attention. It wasn’t that they couldn’t be protected, but it would be troublesome. With the meeting with the Bei Qi Emperor, Song Kuo, imminent, it was better to avoid any complications for now.

Lu Zhu and Hong Zhu obediently went back inside, naturally aware of how conspicuous their appearance would be if they went out.

”Actually, the Ninth Princess is really nice,” Hong Zhu said softly inside, ”She doesn’t seem to be the type to deliberately send Cui Jing away.”

Lu Zhu remained silent, also puzzled by this.

”Even if we avoid today, tomorrow is uncertain,” she said, ”Whether we can survive ahead depends on fate.”

Elsewhere, Ah Chen rounded a flower bed and unexpectedly encountered Cui Jing, who was talking with Song Yuheng and Cui Chen. Song Yuheng’s people had already noticed Ah Chen, so when she approached, the three stopped discussing other matters.

Seeing it was Ah Chen, Cui Chen originally wanted to speak but suddenly remembered the other party’s threat and dared not speak as freely as before.

Afraid that Ah Chen would go back on her word, he hurriedly took two steps forward and lowered his voice, ”Ninth Princess, you promised me. As long as we don’t speak along the way, you won’t implicate Jing’er. I’ve kept my word; you should too, right?”

”I promised you, so I will naturally keep my word. Don’t worry, I won’t suggest keeping her here. As for whether someone else will keep her, that’s not my concern,” Ah Chen replied.

Cui Chen sighed in relief; as long as Song Chen didn’t mention keeping Jing’er here, there was nothing to worry about. Besides, with the help of the Third Prince, he was confident he could take Jing’er away.

He initially thought the Bei Qi Royal Family were all mad, but unexpectedly, there was a normal person like the Third Prince. Luckily, luckily, if not for him, Jing’er would have suffered a lot.

All of this shouldn’t have been Jing’er’s burden; it was all because of Song Chen! If not for Song Chen, Jing’er would have lived happily ever after. Song Chen was truly detestable!

Alas, for fear of the other party turning hostile, he didn’t dare to blame Song Chen even a bit.

Thinking the other party deserved to endure what she must, Cui Chen felt a bit pleased. Song Chen should personally experience these. He couldn’t vent on behalf of Jing’er, but the Bei Qi Royal Family could make Song Chen suffer enough.

Ah Chen saw the schadenfreude in Cui Chen’s eyes and found it amusing but had no intention of exposing him.

Song Yuheng sat there; when Ah Chen arrived, he simply glanced up at her without looking further. Because of the matter with Cui Jing, he didn’t like this Song Chen much,

Cui Jing, however, dared not stay long with Song Yuheng, afraid that Song Chen might perceive something. Song Yuheng noticed and said, ”What I, the prince, just said, you should consider. If you won’t follow me, you’ll have to follow someone else.”

He looked like a bully trying to snatch a common girl.

Cui Jing realized it and stayed silent, appearing somewhat pitiful.

Ah Chen glanced at them, amusement in her eyes. They were acting even in front of her—unnecessary, really. She truly had no intention of keeping Cui Jing. If Cui Jing didn’t return, how would the Emperor of Nan Qi grant her a title? The show must go on; it couldn’t end just like that.

Otherwise, her trip to Bei Qi would have been in vain.

Song Yuheng took a step to leave, and Ah Chen followed suit; the two were now headed in the same direction.

”Actually, you shouldn’t just resent me alone,” Ah Chen suddenly said, causing Song Yuheng to pause. Was she talking to him?

He stopped, turned his head to look.

Ah Chen also stopped, looking at him.

Yes, she was indeed talking to him.

What did the previous words mean?

”What do you mean?” he asked.

Ah Chen no longer looked at him, shifting her gaze to some flowers blooming nearby, plucking one without a thought of cherishing them. She smiled and said, ”Your dislike for me is something you can’t hide, and your concern for Cui Jing is equally visible. No need to act in front of me. Rest assured, I won’t keep Cui Jing. Even if you find a way to send Cui Jing back to Nan Qi, I won’t stop you.”

”You shouldn’t just resent me. The root of all this lies with Bei Qi and Nan Qi’s weakness. If Bei Qi didn’t insist on a princess as a hostage, Cui Jing wouldn’t be in this situation. If Nan Qi was stronger, it wouldn’t be like this either. Those bullying Cui Jing are your siblings; you should resent them too.”

”So, there are many you should resent, not just me, understand?”

”It’s a bit unfair that you only resent me.”

”The Eldest Prince of Bei Qi loves beauties, and Cui Jing was spared because of you, right? And how did you save Cui Jing? Surely by offering beauties to him in exchange for Cui Jing. You should resent yourself as well because you’re not all that noble either. If it were someone other than Cui Jing, you would just be a bystander. There is nothing wrong with protecting oneself, but you likely don’t have the capability to change anything; you couldn’t even help Cui Jing openly. However, it makes little sense for you to only resent and hate me, Third Prince of Bei Qi.”

Song Yuheng’s face turned sour, ”They are under my care, and it’s time for them to serve their purpose.”

”So by your reasoning, Cui Jing, as the daughter of a minister, should also sacrifice for me, the Nan Qi Ninth Princess, right?” Ah Chen asked.
