Chapter 387: Chapter 386: It Is Your Honor to Die for the Princess 6

Song Chong proactively offered compensation and said he would choose a day to send the real Ninth Princess over.

As for the people previously sent over, he didn’t dare to hastily suggest bringing them back, otherwise Bei Qi would definitely sense something was wrong. He could only secretly arrange for people to protect Cui Jing, and preferably bring her back.

After much thought, he decided to send a secret letter to Cui Yu, asking him to figure out a way to rescue Cui Jing. After all, Cui Jing was publicly his daughter, so it was natural for him to be anxious.

Cui Yu was shocked after seeing the secret letter, not expecting that his daughter had actually sent the real Ninth Princess to Bei Qi. Thinking of the other party’s nature, it really made sense.

It would be fine if the Ninth Princess was okay, but if something happened to her, one can’t imagine what kind of anger the Cui Family would have to endure.

Cui Jing definitely needed to be brought back, but Your Majesty couldn’t appear anxious, so only the Cui Family could figure out a way.

Thus, Cui Yu and Song Chong staged a scene together, and in the edict from Song Chong, he was very remorseful and scolded the Ninth Princess for her mischief, which caused trouble for Cui Jing. If Cui Jing could return, they would bestow the title of Princess upon her, and grant a mansion, as a way to console the Cui family, and outsiders would think this Emperor was good.

Cui Zhao and Cui Chen both knew about this. Cui Chen now had the urge to kill Ah Chen, his eyes red with rage, wishing he could fight to the death.

Even Cui Zhao was unsettled this time, thinking Ah Chen had gone too far: ”She is a princess, but she shouldn’t have sent her sister over. She enjoyed the status of a princess; going to Bei Qi was her duty. How did this misfortune fall onto her sister?”

”Brother, you used to think she wasn’t bad, but look at her now, she’s rotten to the core.” Cui Chen wiped his tears, ”Our sister was sent there inexplicably, and who knows what happened. If she weren’t the Ninth Princess, I wouldn’t let her off. Just because she’s part of the Royal Family, does that mean she can bully us at will?”

”I must go with the bridal party and bring our sister back.” Cui Chen said.

Cui Zhao paused, then said: ”Then I will go too.”

Cui Yu told his sons about this matter, initially intending for one of them to go to Bei Qi, reasoning that the brother’s love for his sister would make it reasonable to want her back.

Hearing that Cui Zhao also wanted to go, he stopped him, believing it was enough for only one to go.

He thought, if the second son had an accident there, he would still have one son left. Both sons getting involved because of this was not acceptable. Even if one son was lost, and they didn’t manage to bring the Ninth Princess back, Your Majesty should be able to calm down and not blame the Cui Family.

It’s said that between countries envoys would not be harmed, but Bei Qi was an exception; the people there were fierce and insane, as if afflicted by some great illness.

So much time had passed, he was somewhat worried whether the Ninth Princess would come back alive, hoping she would.

Just like that, Ah Chen was bound and placed into the carriage.

Cui Chen also joined the bridal party. On the way, while others were not paying attention, he secretly lifted the curtain of the carriage, expecting to see a face full of resentment, but unexpectedly, she sat inside the carriage quite calmly, lightly leaning against the side, as if she wasn’t bound.

He quickly collected himself, his voice low but filled with anger: ”If anything happens to Jing’er, I won’t let you off. I thought you were just a bit petulant and willful, I didn’t expect you to be so malicious! Hurting Jing’er like this. Just because you are the Ninth Princess, does it mean you can disregard Jing’er’s life or death? After all, you grew up together, is this how you disregard our bond?”

”If you weren’t the Ninth Princess, would you get away so easily after doing such a thing?”

”Being the Ninth Princess, having enjoyed wealth and honor, you should give back. Jing’er is just a County Magistrate’s daughter, she didn’t enjoy the glory of being a princess, she shouldn’t suffer for you. She’s been gentle and kind since childhood, she shouldn’t encounter such things, how could you harm her like this? You have such a cruel heart.” The more Cui Chen spoke, the more upset he grew, feeling the urge to kill her, but he couldn’t. She still needed to go to Bei Qi as a hostage. If she wasn’t sent over, there would be no way to bring Jing’er back.

”Don’t try to take all the good things.”

Ah Chen remained silent, just looking at him indifferently, making Cui Chen feel it was pointless, and he was about to lower the curtain of the carriage.

Ah Chen’s voice rang out: ”So, as a princess, can’t I let the daughter of a minister die in my place?”

”Of course not!” Cui Chen retorted angrily, but tried to keep his voice down, ”This has nothing to do with Jing’er, it’s something you, the princess, should bear. Why should Jing’er go? I know, you’re just jealous of Jing’er, can’t bear to see her well, so you want to harm her.”

”I do dislike her quite a bit, not just her, but every one of your Cui Family.”

”That day Madam Cui told me, from a young age, she favored Cui Jing, intending to use her as a scapegoat. Now that Bei Qi has come asking, why not have Cui Jing officially recognized back then? That way, I wouldn’t need to go to Bei Qi myself. I am the ruler, you’re the ministers, isn’t it your duty to suffer for me?”

”Wishful thinking!” Cui Chen’s expression turned vicious, ”By now Bei Qi already knows that you’re the Ninth Princess, they will only demand you go as a hostage, you can’t hope to harm Jing’er.”

”Oh! Okay.” Ah Chen smiled faintly.

Cui Chen, seeing her impassive attitude, was furious and threw down the carriage curtain.

After that, he didn’t say another word to Ah Chen.

Ah Chen naturally wouldn’t take the initiative to speak to him, afraid she might use tricks. The people arranged by Song Chong were particularly vigilant, not giving her any chance to escape. There were people guarding her around the clock, even when staying in inns.

Of course, these scenes wouldn’t be witnessed by people. Every time, the area would be cleared before bringing her inside. But there would still be straggling onlookers.

”Sir, that lady in the carriage seems quite distinguished, why is she tied up?”

”That should be the Nan Qi Ninth Princess, being sent to Bei Qi as a hostage, probably to prevent her escape. I heard she tried to hide once.”

”So she’s that Ninth Princess who’s replaced herself with a minister’s daughter, now she can’t escape. Though she is pitiful, she’s also quite bad, unwilling to go herself and forcing others, yet still didn’t escape.”

Nan Qi didn’t have these rumors, but they were widespread in Bei Qi. They wouldn’t save face for Nan Qi; they had come from Bei Qi where this matter was a heated topic.

”What’s so strange about that? Those nobles up high don’t care about the life and death of those ranked lower than them. In times of crisis, if sacrificing a city could save them, they would sacrifice without hesitation. To them, those are insignificant lives! They don’t matter,” Fan Shi said, about to look away. That bound woman entering the inn, however, glanced in their direction. Clearly hidden among the branches himself, he shouldn’t be noticed, but he felt that she saw them.

Those eyes were clear and bright, very unlike the nobles he had seen.

For a moment, he had an illusion that she wasn’t the sort of person who would do such a thing, but the fact remained that she had done it.

He shifted his gaze, looking no more, yet for some unknown reason, he felt uncomfortable, just stuffy inside.

”What’s wrong, sir?”

”Nothing, let’s go.”

”To where? Nan Qi?”

”Not worth going there,” Fan Shi said. Despite everything, Nan Qi chose to send the princess to Bei Qi; going to that place full of cowards? There’s nothing he wanted there.

”Your Highness, what’s wrong?” a maid at the inn entrance carefully inquired.

Ah Chen withdrew her gaze, sighed in her heart, feeling misunderstood.

For those unaware of the circumstances, who wouldn’t misunderstand hearing about this?

Once things were done, she would go to pacify; maybe by then, it wouldn’t take much, and someone might even come on their own.

”Then should we head east, to seek the uprising army?” After she went inside, Fan Shi’s attendant’s voice rang out again.

Fan Shi said, ”No.”

Labeling it a rebellion was a grand name for those who merely looted and plundered; that wasn’t a place to go. If they truly succeeded at anything, Nan Qi and Bei Qi wouldn’t be this stable.

”Then where to?”

”To Bei Qi.” Fan Shi didn’t quite understand why, just felt the urge to go to Bei Qi.

The attendant scratched his head, full of confusion, ”Didn’t we just come from there? Still going back? Going to watch the excitement? Professor too likes to watch excitement?”
