Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Young Master Is a Woman

Having dealt with the issues at the manor, it was already long past sunset, and rushing back now would likely mean not being able to get into the city.

”Stay the night.” Ah Chen looked at the sky, where there were still some fiery clouds, beneath which lay the dark forest.

As night fell, the sounds of insects began, adding a touch of liveliness.

Ah Chen holding the cup, drank the warm tea, did not feel there was anything wrong with drinking tea at night. The busy day passed, and having this rare free time was somewhat unsettling; she preferred having things to do.

Once she stopped, it seemed she stopped thinking.

Ying Fang came in from outside, glanced at the white porcelain cup in Ah Chen’s hand, his serious face almost cracking: ”Young Master, it’s already dark, isn’t it bad to drink strong tea now?”

She grabbed the cup from Ah Chen’s hand, picked up the teapot and shook it, her expression changing; half of it had been drunk, was she planning not to sleep?

”It’s fine, you go and rest.” Ah Chen didn’t plan to snatch the cup back; drinking or not didn’t matter, she wasn’t that fond of tea—it was just something to do, drinking tea counted.

She leaned back in the bamboo chair, looking very relaxed, her beautiful brows and eyes at the slightly angry Ying Fang: ”Ying Fang, aren’t you tired? You didn’t sleep at all last night, and you’ve been busy all day; you should go and rest. If you collapse, who will be by my side to get things done?”

”Not tired now,” Ying Fang placed the teapot and cup far away, moving closer, ”It’s late, even the Young Master should rest; staying up late is not good. The whole Prince Ning Mansion, and all the ladies rely on you. If you collapse, who will protect us?”

Ah Chen wanted to say she wouldn’t collapse.

As long as she wanted, she could easily hold on until everyone was buried. But such words were chilling, so she didn’t say them, to avoid scaring her worried guard.

Seeing Ying Fang’s seriousness, Ah Chen got up with a smile: ”Alright, I’ll go rest, and you should too.”

Towards those who mean well and show concern for her, she was always quite tolerant. For matters neither painful nor itchy, she let them have it their way.

Inside the room, Ah Chen closed her eyes, but her mind was still very awake.

Unable to sleep, just can’t sleep.

But she had no intention of getting up; she lay quietly like this, appearing asleep.

The places frequented should have someone plant some bamboo; perhaps that would bring sleep. At least in the courtyard of the Prince Ning Mansion, her sleep was much better.

Chenghua Hall was also a good place to sleep, she had a rare good sleep last night.

[Little Seven, are you there? Let’s chat.]

Suddenly hearing the call, 997 hurried back, very surprised that this two-faced host chose to initiate a conversation.

[Host, not sure what you’d like to chat about?]

Ah Chen: [You’re really boring!]

Huh? 997 felt quite innocent; was there something wrong with asking this? If it’s time for a chat, isn’t asking what to talk about quite normal?

[Signed up any new recruits?] Ah Chen didn’t bother whether 997 could chat or not, and asked again. She knew at the time of binding that 997 was quite a mature system, focused on tasks with little youthful playfulness, though this was just the surface of him.

Speaking of this, 997 gained some interest.

[Gotten a few in contact, but the results were not ideal; no matter what I said, they didn’t want to permanently bind. Host, if I don’t use some tricks, I might not be able to sign up any newbies...]

[Those wanting to sign but not permanently bind make so many demands, as if I desperately need them.]

A bit annoyed with the system.

He already had a permanent host, seeming like a big shot, and the tasks of the first world were completed perfectly. With the host there, maintaining operations was absolutely not a problem, currently not worried at all.

Without doing anything, yet making so many demands, what wishful thinking.

Hold it, hold it, he’s an old system—a bit more steadiness in emotions is needed.

[Host, help me reason this out; although I used a few tricks in signing with you, honestly I didn’t exploit you on wages, I just wanted a stable host relationship to complete tasks together.]

Ah Chen chuckled: [Indeed.]

Back then, she too realized that 997 didn’t have bad intents and felt a sort of affinity towards him, thus going with the binding naturally.

[Host, regardless if you’re a newbie or not, you’re good. Rest assured, I’ll definitely keep a close watch for those quality tasks; once available, I’ll be ahead waiting, securing them for you.] 997 promised, tasks available to missionaries are quite numerous, but many crave the first chance for quality tasks.

Even worlds involving special powers may offer greater benefits. Regardless if successful or not, countless missionaries eye them hungrily. Even if failing, at most there’s no wage for that world, just penalization of performance; as long as task failures aren’t constant, it’s fine, not a loss. Once successful, the rewards increase significantly.

Potentially bundles of fortune, various powers, and skills, and perhaps unique items offered by the small world.

Ah Chen received this kind intention, praised 997 briefly, which left him feeling a bit shy.

[Even in the future if I sign new hosts, the good tasks will first be allocated to you.] 997 stated.

Ah Chen smiled: [Alright.]

Actually, for her, whether they’re quality tasks or not doesn’t matter much, as long as she can journey to different small worlds, that’s what she desires.

That’s when Ah Chen suddenly heard a knock on the door.

[You go get busy.]

[Okay.] 997 responded and disappeared somewhere; during these days together, he’d learned some about this big shot host’s temperament—do not disturb when working, unless something exceptional happens or she seeks him first.

It’s... still manageable, not at all giving the system headaches.

Suddenly, thinking that taking on newbies isn’t as appealing anymore.

”What’s up?” Ah Chen asked as she opened the door; but realizing something wasn’t right as soon as the words left her lips, noticing several people at the door, the foremost being a tall figure cloaked in black.

With the aid of the room’s light, Ah Chen saw the partially concealed face beneath the cloak’s hood, and a pair of eyes in the night capable of setting everything ablaze.

Seeing the person she missed, Ye Ji finally felt a sense of peace in his anxious heart, yet it was beating particularly fast, uncontrollable.

Ying Fang and Hou Rongfa stood nearby, secretly exchanging glances, tacitly silent.

”Missed you.” Ye Ji whispered, eyes on Ah Chen, not shifting away, ”Can’t sleep without you around.”

His tone carried a bit of pitiable charm.

Hou Rongfa’s cheeks tensed, almost fainting; was this something he could hear? Were these words his Majesty should say? It’s over, it’s over, the Emperor’s deeply involved. What’s he to do? He’s just a small chief eunuch.

Ying Fang was much more at ease; seems the Young Master has a hold on him, which is reassuring.

Ah Chen stretched out her hand, grasped Ye Ji’s large palm, pulled him inside, and with a bang, shut the door.

This night she too would have a good sleep.
