Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The Princely Heir Is a Woman 23

”Have you heard? That person has caused a disturbance at the Imperial Palace again.”

”Huh? Which person?”

”Who else could it be? Of course, it’s the Sister-Protecting-Fanatic, Prince Ning.”

”What, what, is there finally news from the Weian Earl Mansion? What did Zhou Yuanjia do? Spill it quickly, I bet he’s in trouble and I’m going to make a big profit this time. Haha, just when I’m short on cash, it’s no wonder I heard magpies chirping this morning.”

”You’re daydreaming, Zhou Yuanjia is fine, nothing happened. This time, it’s the Duke An’s Mansion that’s having the trouble.”

”What? Duke An’s Mansion? I remember the Fifth Young Master and his wife have been loving and affectionate for ten years, how could this be?”

”Here’s what happened...”

”Hiss...”

”My God!”

”That’s so unjust.”

”If it weren’t for Prince Ning, wouldn’t this stain never be washed clean in a lifetime?”

”Clearly, they did nothing wrong and not only did they have to take the blame but were also sabotaged, no wonder they stirred up trouble at the Imperial Palace.”

”I never thought the Fifth Young Master of Duke An’s Mansion would be such a person...”

After hearing the whole story, many people took a deep breath and felt that Ning Yulan was greatly wronged.

It’s important to note that, prior to this, although many people envied Ning Yulan, there were also not a few who criticized her. She was often drawn out and scorned in private conversations. Once the truth was exposed, it turned out that Yuan Bingjun was the one who could not have children. To conceal the truth, the Duke and his wife even persecuted the poor girl, completely tarnishing the reputation of their mansion.

The clarity and detail with which the incident was spread were undoubtedly due to Ah Chen’s handiwork.

While crying out for justice at the Imperial Palace, she had someone outside advance the narrative. Rather than letting people guess, leading to unclear rumors, it was better to present the truth directly to the public, leaving no chance for the Duke Mansion to redeem its reputation.

By the time they came to their senses, it was too late.

”Prince Ning, what do you seek?” Ye Ji asked with a blank expression.

Though inwardly, he already knew the other party’s intention. Since the process had come this far, it had to be asked.

It’s not that he sided with this person; in truth, he was still angry with them at the moment.

Each matter needs to be dealt with separately. Now that this person has presented sufficient evidence, both material and testimonial, the Duke and his wife and Yuan Bingjun were left gray-faced, unable to refute any of the evidence. What more could be said?

Ah Chen raised her eyes, her sincere and clear gaze met Ye Ji’s.

Ye Ji: ”...”

Adorable face, particularly malicious heart.

From the surface, it truly did not show that someone like this could accept beautiful women sent by other families around them. Such appetite is not small; living so indulgently daily, no wonder they are so frail.

So young yet following a bad path, aren’t they afraid of a short life?

It still comes back to Old Dog Ning, capable of giving birth but not raising well. If he were strict in disciplining his children, would Ning Zhen’s private life be so obscene?

”Your Majesty, the Fifth Young Master of Duke An first committed marital fraud, then blamed my sister for infertility. To seal the deal, he even conspired with the Duke and his wife to drug her, resulting in countless doctors diagnosing my sister as infertile. My sister and the Fifth Young Master were married for ten years, bearing the burden of being infertile, jealous reputation for ten years, drinking various unknown bitter medicines for ten years, deceived for ten years, always believing it was her fault for these issues, feeling guilty for ten years, causing severe mental and physical trauma.”

While Ah Chen said this, Ning Yulan did not cry aloud, but her eyes were red, and two clear tears rolled down her cheeks.

Such silent crying, combined with her ordeal, would move anyone who saw it.

”Such a household and husband, my sister can indeed no longer bear, I earnestly ask Your Majesty to permit my sister to divorce.” After Ah Chen finished speaking, Ning Yulan bowed as well.

”Moreover, the damage my sister suffered is not something mere divorce can resolve, Duke An’s Mansion must compensate my sister for her mental and physical damages,” Ah Chen continued, ”And regarding the Duke Mansion drugging and harming my sister, I also ask Your Majesty to administer justice.”

Hence, they not only needed to pay compensation and lose reputation but also face imprisonment.

Otherwise, why would she have come to the Golden Throne Hall to make a scene?

As for doing it so thoroughly?

Is there?

Did the Duke Mansion not do it thoroughly?

With her here, no matter how much hatred the Duke Mansion held, regardless of whatever schemes they had in the future, as long as they dared, she would make them regret it for a lifetime.

Feeling the glances from Duke An and the others, Ah Chen turned her head slightly and glanced at them, her eyes clean, persistent, unwavering, with a hint of a smile, yet within the smile was nothing but a warning.

Duke An, who was originally very angry, suddenly lost all strength in his shoulders. For the first time in so many years, he experienced an unresisting fear. Clearly, it was only a youth of less than twenty, but he had an intuition not to oppose them anymore.

Otherwise, the entire Duke Mansion would suffer.

A very absurd idea.

But within, he was indeed terrified.

Yuan Bingjun was very agitated and was just about to say something when Duke An, beside him, pinched him fiercely, and the piercing pain in his arm quickly deflated the surge of anger within him.

Duke An closed his eyes, right there in the Golden Throne Hall, under the Emperor’s gaze, how could he tolerate Wuer’s shouting and screaming? Did he want the entire Duke Mansion to suffer immediately?

Ultimately, it was his indulgence of Wuer that was the issue.

Ning Yulan was astonished by Ah Chen’s request and deeply moved.

She saw Yuan Bingjun’s gaze, blaming her for being so ruthless and unfeeling after being married.

A mocking expression swept across her eyes. From the beginning, it was a marriage filled with deceit, and yet they expected her to be merciful. When they dealt with her, did they show mercy? They could have been honest with her, she didn’t need to drink the medicine, nor did they have to drug her with infertility drugs.

But they didn’t.

The act of drugging was to assure the blame was on her entirely.

So on what grounds did Yuan Bingjun have to accuse her of being ruthless and unfeeling?

A useless man who pinned all faults on his wife!

”Approve the divorce of Ning Yulan,” Ye Ji said, ”Duke An’s Mansion should also compensate Ning Yulan. Duke An, have you any objections?”

Duke An had no objections; he just wanted to resolve the matter now.

Getting entangled with Ning Zhen was no good thing.

He hadn’t forgotten the mishaps of certain individuals.

”Regarding the matter of you drugging Ning Yulan, the evidence is solid, and thus the three of you should rightfully face imprisonment.” Ye Ji’s eye twitched uncontrollably, as this was the first time he sentenced a Duke to jail.

Duke An didn’t seem to struggle much; after a bit of thought, Ye Ji understood the reason.

It was Ning Zhen’s ruthless and difficult behavior.

He knew that while the former had offended quite a few people, many secretly wished to seize their weakness or remove them quietly. Yet this person was tough and hard to manage, and anyone who tried ended up more flustered.

”Considering Duke An’s previous service, you’ll be imprisoned for one month. Given the Duke and Duchess’s advanced age, they may not withstand the harsh conditions, so after one month, they can serve their term reflecting at home instead, with this being a one-time exception,” Ye Ji said, ”Prince Ning, are you satisfied with this?”

As for Yuan Bingjun, young as he is, he should stay in the prison.

Ah Chen naturally had no objection, it was fine as long as they were imprisoned; the duration and place weren’t crucial.

The outcome she desired was simply for them to have a prison record.

Ning Yulan cared even less now; actually, she was already content with breaking away from the Duke Mansion after the truth was uncovered.

But her good Ah Zhen had sought even more for her.
