Chapter 765: Chapter 292: Defensive Power Test (Double-Length Chapter)_2

“Sir, is this your first time here? Would you like me to show you around?”

“Yes.”

“Sir, these two devices are for testing defensive power, namely the flame sprayer and the torrential sprayer, capable of emitting flames and torrents respectively. The power of a single nozzle is about ten degrees, and the maximum power for testing is up to eighty degrees,”

The girl pointed at the device on the far left, the ‘Gatling,’

Rein looked at it and asked, “Aren’t there other elements of damage, like frost or something?”

“Um… I’m sorry, Sir, but we only have these two types available here in the branch.”

Rein nodded, thinking that the two types were more or less sufficient.

“Hmm, and what about this one?” Rein pointed at the device in the middle.

“This one is a spear launcher, which you can set to fast, medium, or slow,” the girl explained.

Spears? So, it’s for testing physical attack power.

“Right, Sir, when you test your witchcraft defense, please progress gradually, and at the same time, be cautious. Do not expose your vital body parts towards the launcher. It’s all written on the device’s nameplate,” the girl added.

Rein nodded and said, “The last one is for testing magical attack power, right?”

“Yes, Sir, if you have been to the attack power testing room on the second floor, you might recognize that this machine looks very similar to the devices downstairs, except that it’s coated with this magic silver, which can significantly reduce energy damage.”

“Magic silver?”

“Yes, Sir, it’s said to be a special metal that can greatly weaken energy attacks, but I’m not very clear on the specifics,” the girl explained.

Rein nodded, keeping the term in mind.

He planned to search for more information about it in the library later.

“That’s fine, you can go back to your duties, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Sir. Please be careful, and call me anytime if needed,” the girl said respectfully, bowing slightly before leaving.

After some thought, Rein began the test with the first device.

Rein first adjusted the flame sprayer, planning to start with a two-nozzle test, which would mean a fire attack of about twenty degrees.

As the countdown on the flame sprayer began:

“3”

“2”

“1”

“Bang!”

Two bursts of flame shot out and directly struck Rein’s Kite Shield, transformed from Hardened Essence Gold.

He comfortably withstood the twenty-degree witchcraft attack.

Then came the three-nozzle test…

Then four nozzles…

Up to five nozzles…

At five nozzles, even though Rein positioned all three Kite Shields in front of him, within mere seconds, the shields began to melt, clearly reaching the limits of fire defense.

“It looks to be about forty degrees of fire defense.”

Immediately after, Rein began experimenting with the torrential sprayer.

The previous test involved flames; this one simulated the water-based witchcraft ‘torrential impact.’

This time, Rein started directly with the three-nozzle test.

Then came four nozzles…

Five nozzles…

“Huh, it can still withstand this?”

After multiple attempts, Rein discovered to his surprise,

“It turns out that the defensive power of the ‘Metal Barrier’ witchcraft is somewhat related to the resistance of the metal itself.”

“Hardened Essence Gold has average resistance to flames but fairly decent resistance to water impact, hence the difference in defense power of nearly ten degrees between the two.”

“This means…”

Rein seemed to think of something, a slight spark in his gaze.

…

—————–

Sword Bearers Branch, in the mission hall.

Among those waiting to submit tasks, the red-haired Evelyn was as beautiful as ever, although her tiredness was evident.

She had just returned from Rosby Shire to submit a novice task.

The situation in Rosby Shire was worse than she had anticipated.

Her family, the Normans, as an old Viscount family from Rosby, had suffered considerable losses in the recent upheaval.

In fact, the situation in the entire Rosby Shire was fairly similar to that in Meister, with titan attacks compounded by the covert instigations of the Black Flame Cult, making the living environment in Rosby Shire plummet.

This time, she had brought her mother and some young elites of the Norman family to the provincial city of Mingster.

This was also the last preparation made by the Norman family to avoid further deterioration of the situation and to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Still, she was quite worried about her father.

As a nobleman with land, the Viscount Norman naturally could not leave Rosby Shire.

At that moment, it was Evelyn’s turn in the queue.

“Hello, what can I help you with?” the young clerk asked with a smile as she stood up.

“Hello, please submit the Bronze-level mission ‘Rosby City’s Transport Line’ for me,” Evelyn said as she handed over a dull black iron badge.

“All right, Sir.”

Even though it was merely the lowest level black iron badge, the young clerk did not show any negligence.

After all, a black iron badge, though low in rank, still indicated a Transcendent, a respected Sword Bearer!

The difference between them and ordinary people was like a chasm.

“All done, Sir. The Bronze-level mission ‘Rosby City’s Transport Line’ has been completed, and 150 Merit Points have also been recorded in your badge,”

Evelyn nodded, her face showing a bit of relief.

She had finally completed the novice mission!

Those 150 Merit Points were not easy to earn!

Quite a few newbie Sword Bearers got injured during this novice mission.

She considered herself lucky as, being a Peak Knight and a level two Wizard Apprentice, she often performed support spells, which comparatively reduced the level of danger.

The Sea God Sect was more troublesome to deal with than she had expected.

If it hadn’t been a novice mission led by an instructor, the losses might have been greater.
