Chapter 764: Chapter 292: Defensive Power Test (Double-Length Chapter)

But what frightened Bruno even more was this:

Logically, her recent scream should have quickly drawn the attention of her family and the servants.

But so far, she hadn’t heard anyone talking or any movement at all.

This made her even more uneasy.

Bruno planned to escape through the window. Just as she was about to open it…

She froze the next second.

Because she had just looked up at the window.

There, sitting on the windowsill where he should have been in the hallway outside, was the boy, still holding that female doll, staring straight at her.

“Ah!!!”

….

—————–

Meanwhile.

At the Sword Bearers Branch.

As Rein walked along, he quickly did some mental calculations.

“If I invest skill points in the new witchcraft ‘Metal Barrier,’ leveling it directly to level 2, based on previous reference, it should reduce the casting time by about 20%, from 3 seconds to 2.4 seconds.”

“But 2.4 seconds is still too slow.”

“Adding 2 skill points to reach level 3 would further reduce it to 1.9 seconds.”

“And adding 3 points would make it level 4, which would bring the casting time down to roughly 1.5 seconds…”

“…”

“Adding all 5 skill points would elevate it to level 6… uh, a 1-second casting time.”

“It can still be optimized.”

“That would mean, by practicing first to elevate ‘Metal Barrier’ to level 2, then adding 5 skill points, it becomes level 7, meaning only 0.8 seconds casting time!”

Rein raised an eyebrow!

Such casting time would basically have decent practicality, especially since it broke the 1-second mark.

This would take a regular wizard or wizard apprentice, perhaps six or seven years of hard practice, doing syllable compression exercises and so on.

Of course, it would be best to reduce it even further, making it a bit shorter!

“But that would require at least another 5 skill points!”

Rein glanced at the system panel’s combat professions. Both the Warhammer Wizard (Legendary) and the Weapon Master (Legendary) were hard to level up quickly.

“It seems, at that point, only by seeking a professional job change can I quickly gain skill points.”

“Inscription?” Two words flashed in Rein’s mind.

After discussing inscriptions with Cleya, he had decided to find an Inscription Master as soon as possible to begin basic learning.

“Inscription likely relates to the subsequent job change of an armorer…”

As he pondered, Rein quickly arrived at the training hall.

He remembered clearly, the rather proactive reception girl had made it clear that there was a witchcraft testing room on the third floor, whereas the second floor’s testing room he had previously visited mainly tested Extraordinary Battle Techniques.

Soon, Rein reached the third floor, in front of a door with the words ‘Witchcraft Power Testing Room’.

The door was open, inside was a space like an indoor training room, about four to five hundred square meters in size, but with fewer people than the defensive power testing room on the second floor.

This made sense, as since Rein joined the Sword Bearers assessment, the number of mere wizard apprentices only made up less than one-tenth of the total.

Even considering those who dual-trained in knight paths, the total was estimated not to exceed one-fifth.

Relatively speaking, within the Dragan Empire, individuals qualified as wizards were much rarer than those with decent knight talents.

Why, then, were there so many wizard apprentices and wizards in the Sword Bearers or certain special departments?

That was because the Empire had concentrated these qualified individuals through multiple selections.

Just as in Rein’s previous life’s research institutions, there were basically none below masters, the same logic applied.

Inside, seven or eight sword bearers clad in various-colored wizard robes were testing, and seeing the young-looking Rein at the door, they couldn’t help but turn to look.

However, Rein merely scanned the room once, then walked back out.

He wasn’t very keen on exposing his superior-level metal element affinity.

Previously in the testing room, he had seen the standards posted on the wall—over 90 was considered superior.

An affinity almost unheard of in the biggest categories of fire and water elements.

Not to mention in the much smaller category of metal elements.

And the witchcraft power testing was likely to expose a tester’s qualification since, given the same witchcraft and similar spiritual power, a large difference in power would indicate a difference in qualifications.

Rein went to the information desk and inquired, “Excuse me, does this witchcraft power testing room have private chambers?”

“Yes, sir, but there’s an extra energy consumption fee involved. Is that okay?”

“That’s fine.” Rein nodded, although he wasn’t sure what the energy consumption fee was; he believed he could definitely afford it.

At the same time, Rein handed over his crystal badge.

The young female clerk looked at it, her mouth opened slightly in surprise, and she immediately took it respectfully, saying, “Sir, please follow me.”

Soon, Rein followed the clerk to a room located on the third-floor corridor on the left side, near the very end. The girl said, “Sir, this is it.”

As the young girl opened the door, Rein saw the room was about a hundred square meters, equipped with several uniquely shaped devices.

From left to right, there were two devices resembling multi-barreled Gatling guns, while in the center was something like a tennis ball launcher from his previous life.

The device on the far right was similar to the attack power tester on the second floor, except its surface was painted bright silver.
