Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi charged in fiercely, yet Lux just stood there, not even trying to dodge.

Thunder crackled across the mechanical arm, buzzing loudly. Gao Yuanyi’s figure turned phantom-like as he arrived in front of Lux a step ahead of Yang Yu.

He drove a vicious Charging Fist forward; the mechanical fist slammed into the black Armor, and in that instant, raging lightning surged, electric arcs dancing wildly across the black Armor.

Crimson stabbed into his palm, the Sharp sword blade coated in orange-red. Yang Yu used Instant Movement to reposition, circling behind Lux, and the Sharp blade sparked orange-red as it scraped against the black Armor.

Lux didn’t move an inch; roaring flames kept pouring endlessly out from his body.

He drew a circle on the ground’s squares with the Holy Sword, the ring centered on Lux, rapidly expanding outward.

Layers of Light Veil formed from pure light shot up from the ground, instantly enclosing Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi.

Lux was using Skills granted by the Holy Sword, which wouldn’t be affected by Fire Attraction.

Raising his head to look at Lux’s Blood Bar, Yang Yu saw that the combined Attack from him and Gao Yuanyi had barely done anything; they hadn’t even shaved off a twentieth of Lux’s blood, just scraped off a paper-thin layer.

Even more terrifying, based on the intel they had, the Demon King Armor possessed the ability to protect its wearer and block incoming damage for him.

The fierce Attacks from Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi were likely all being stopped by the Demon King Armor.

The fact that Lux could immediately equip the Demon King’s Equipment was truly unexpected; the strategy difficulty for him had just jumped up a whole Level.

But so what if the strategy difficulty went up?

As long as his Blood could be chipped away, that meant there was still a way to clear this boss!

Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi did not back down.

Gao Yuanyi raised his fist, golden light wrapping around his arm. He smashed a punch into Lux’s chest, delicate cracks rapidly spiderwebbing across the black Armor, then quickly vanishing.

Yang Yu’s Shield moved like the wind, slapping onto the black Armor’s back. In that instant, fine lines flickered rapidly at the point of contact between Shield and armor, then vanished in a flash.

The Armor protecting Lux didn’t actually crack; this was just the visual effect of Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi’s Skills.

Yang Yu had used [Shattering Rock Shield Strike], while Gao Yuanyi had used [Defense Shattering]—both Skills that could greatly reduce an enemy’s Resistance.

Reducing enemy Resistance in a targeted way was essentially the same as boosting one’s own damage output.

Lux still stood there unmoving, but unmoving didn’t mean Lux wouldn’t counterattack.

The moment the two of them made contact with Lux, the raging flames burning on Lux’s body crawled up their arms along the points of contact at high Speed.

Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi both pulled back their hands, flinging their arms, but the black flames clinging to their arms were like festering bone-deep rot; no matter how they shook, they couldn’t get rid of them, and the flames ravenously gnawed away at their Life Value and Magic Power.

Lux lifted the Holy Sword, and the black flames engulfing him turned into a Flame Wave, violently blasting out in all directions.

Yang Yu lowered his stance as the Illusion Shield rapidly extended from his Shield, blocking the incoming Flame Wave.

Gao Yuanyi dropped back behind Yang Yu to avoid the raging inferno, only to see the black roaring flames slam into the Light Veil Hero Lox had just deployed, then surge around from behind to strike them.

He quickly opened his item inventory, pulled out a small metal sphere, and tossed it at the onrushing blaze.

The moment the metal sphere touched the roaring flames, it exploded instantly, spewing out thick ice mist that formed a Frozen Ice Shield, temporarily halting the fire’s erosion.

Unfortunately, the mechanically projected Frozen Ice Shield wasn’t as tough as he had hoped; after just a few seconds, a crack split open in the shield, and the surging flames poured through the gap, burning toward Yang Yu and the two of them.

Seizing this chance, Lux moved within the flames; in a flash, he appeared atop the Frozen Ice Shield, and his Sharp Holy Sword struck that crack without hesitation, smashing the Frozen Ice Shield to pieces.

The violent flames burst through like floodwater from a broken sluice, rushing into the shattered Frozen Ice Shield and engulfing Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi, frenziedly devouring their Life Value and Magic Power.

Lux had seen Yang Yu and his party’s Strength before.

Although Lux now possessed the Demon King’s Strength, he wasn’t stupid enough to get into close-quarters combat and trade technical blows with Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi.

Against ”monkey-type” enemies like Yang Yu and Gao Yuanyi who bounced all over the place, high-damage, large-area Attacks were the true King’s Path.

Outside the Light Veil, sparks shot up to the sky as Lotcar slowed his steps. Magicians launched themselves from his back one after another, taking to the air.

Three or four Small Magic spells went ”bam bam bam” against the Light Veil, only making golden ripples spread across its surface, unable to pierce through it.

The strength of this Light Veil was on par with the Shield formed by [Goddess’ Smile].

The power of the Holy Sword was extraordinary.

If Iyas and the others could see Hero Lox’s attributes like Yang Yu’s party did, they would realize that this formidable Light Veil was not without flaws.

Maintaining the Light Veil consumed a massive amount of Magic Power from Lux; every time the Light Veil took a hit, a bit of Magic Power from his blue bar would be drained to sustain it.

In theory, the Light Veil also had an upper limit.

But as a fully awakened Demon King, the Magic Power stored inside Lux’s body was anything but ordinary, and his Magic Recovery Speed was astonishing.

Even though the Light Veil had a cap, that limit was far beyond anything Bai Jin and the others could ever reach.

Pouring damage into the Light Veil was just a waste of time.

Bai Jin and the others all stopped casting Magic and changed their strategy.

The Light Veil formed a sealed space, so Bai Jin and the others decided to prepare even more powerful Magic and then, once the Light Veil’s duration ended, unload everything onto Lux in a single burst.

In order to fight the Demon King, every generation’s Hero had drawn the Holy Sword; naturally, they also learned to use the Skills granted by the Holy Sword.

Even without investigating Hero Lox directly, just doing a bit of research on more Ancient Heroes was enough to figure out the general set of Skills the Holy Sword granted.

This was also why Lotcar had been able to discover that golden thread ahead of time.

Yang Yu didn’t have Lotcar’s keen hearing and failed to catch the faint sound of Lux drawing the sword, which was why he had almost missed dodging the Holy Sword’s Attack just now.

Lotcar and the others had also heard about this Light Veil from the kingdom of the Nine-Life Cat Demon.

The Skill [Light Veil] was a protection-type Skill transformed and strengthened by the Holy Sword; those hiding behind the wall it formed were almost completely unaffected by what happened on the other side.

The reason for ”almost” instead of ”absolutely” was this:

Some Attacks could indeed penetrate the veil of Holy Light and reach the far side of the wall.

And those Attacks were rare Skills that disguised themselves as Healing Skills to slip past enemy defenses, then transformed into solid damage to carry out a surprise strike!

The Holy Light techniques Iyas had mastered happened to be perfectly suited for this moment!

Holy Light possessed both support and offensive properties, and the Ancient Angels who had used Holy Light for ages knew exactly how to apply those two properties in the most effective way.
