Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

”At first glance, angels just seem to have one more pair of wings than us.

No different from us.

Unfortunately, besides me, almost all elves treat angels with utmost reverence, just as they treat me with reverence...

Angels are a beautiful legend.

So beautiful that many elves don’t dare to look up to truly see what the angels in front of them are like; they simply kneel down.

This is unavoidable; in our culture, angels are placed in an exceptionally high position.”

Mingtu Saiqiute’s words carried a hint of helplessness, like she felt sorrow for the elves who revered the angels so deeply besides her.

”Many people yearn for poetry and distant places.

We have never seen the lives of angels and naturally assume their lives are better than ours.

Because we’ve never seen them, we always simulate the most beautiful image of them in our minds.

This is a very common mentality.

If one constantly hears that a place is terrible, they can’t help but imagine how terrible it is, even if they’ve never seen it, and give it a terrible impression, criticizing it.

But, what does the distant place really look like?

Only by truly going there would one know.

For the first time, I began to waver in my beliefs.

The more I realized they were just like us, the more inexplicable fear I felt in my heart.

So, at that time, when I was invited to become an angel, I refused those angels’ requests.

However, some are unable to resist yearning to be angels; angels selected outstanding members of the Elf Clan, transforming them into angels.

If that elf from your group was present, they definitely would have been chosen.

I just stood aside, watching everything unfold, wanting to stop it, but ultimately couldn’t take a step forward.

I once asked an elf who was about to undergo the transformation ceremony, ’Won’t your family feel lonely with you accepting the transformation ceremony like this?’

I can’t forget the elf’s extremely surprised look as they answered, ’My family will be proud of me, and elves live very long; surely there will be a day when we meet again.’

I didn’t know how to refute it; I was confused at that time, and in the end, I just watched as they grew wings.

Yet, I have never regretted choosing to stay.

Especially after traveling the world again with Lux...”

Mingtu Saiqiute fiddled with the key, and smiled slightly.

Yang Yu listened quietly, pondered for a moment, and asked the next question: ”Angels descending into this world isn’t just for elves to complete the transformation, right?

Moreover, it seems they don’t come and go as they wish; if they did, there’d likely be many transformation records over the nearly ten thousand years.

But the transformation ceremony was held only once over four hundred years ago.

What’s the purpose of angels descending into this world?”

”Unfortunately, I haven’t heard the details either.

I just know they seem to need some manpower, and that’s why they found us.

Helping some elves complete the transformation is also to better carry out their work.

As for what work, they haven’t clearly stated, but seem to be searching for something.

But angels appearing here is probably on the goddess’s orders...” Mingtu Saiqiute replied.

With his hand on his chin, Yang Yu fell into thought.

During his time in the giant dragon’s knowledge library, Yang Yu also looked up some information about the Angel Clan, but those records were very vague, even mixing in many legends and folklore, making it hard to distinguish truth from fiction.

The angels also seem to deliberately avoid the giant dragon’s Surveillance Magic, leaving no trace of them to be found.

”By the way, the Angel Clan seems to be able to retract their wings.

They spread their wings only when necessary, and after completing the transformation ceremony, they retract their wings and disappear in the Elf Forest looking like ordinary humans.” Mingtu Saiqiute added.

”So, is there currently any way to know if angels are lurking in this world? Is it impossible to recognize angels just by appearance?”

Facing Yang Yu’s question, Mingtu Saiqiute nodded slightly.

It is uncertain whether one might be able to rely on the system panel to identify angels hidden among humans...

No, the system might not even be reliable.

Yang Yu continued asking Mingtu Saiqiute about many things, including all the inter-world wars she experienced, the changes in this world, and the situation with Hero Lox and his companions.

Mingtu Saiqiute didn’t deliberately avoid these questions, and enthusiastically shared everything she knew with Yang Yu, including plenty of amusing tales.

As an exchange, Yang Yu also shared part of his adventure stories with Mingtu Saiqiute.

After talking for two to three hours, Yang Yu posed his last question:

”I heard you were injured by demons while protecting your clan, and that led to your death. Can you tell me about the details of that time?”

Upon hearing this question, Mingtu Saiqiute drew circles on the table with her finger, not knowing where to start.

After a while, Mingtu Saiqiute nodded and decided to start from the beginning.

Mingtu Saiqiute first described the scene of peaceful life among the elves, then spoke about the abnormalities around Luoyu City.

Although the elves of Luoyu City might cultivate some crops, their main food sources still relied on gathering and hunting.

Before the incident, the wild fruits that could be gathered, and the prey that could be hunted around Luoyu City decreased significantly, forcing many elves to venture deeper into the forest for hunting and gathering.

Then, the tragedy occurred.

A large number of elves never returned, and Mingtu Saiqiute organized manpower to search, but most of the searchers also never returned.

Ultimately, it was an elf corrupted by demons who escaped with protection from companions, to finally inform Mingtu Saiqiute of the Demon Invasion.

Realizing the severity of the issue, Mingtu Saiqiute immediately recalled all the outward-bound elves, organized security troops, and had their fellow villagers from Elf Village scattered in the Elf Forest seek refuge in Luoyu City.

While Mingtu Saiqiute issued the directives, even more elves fell victim.

The demon seemed able to temporarily gain stronger power by devouring Magic Beasts and elves, and after a few days of planned devouring, the demon arrived to attack Luoyu City and destroyed the Barrier of Luoyu City.

Mingtu Saiqiute made a quick decision, using the Secret Treasure of the elves.

With the efforts of several priests and Mingtu Saiqiute, the demon was finally repelled.

But many elves died in that battle, and Mingtu Saiqiute was afflicted with the Curse, her body seemingly hollowed out, withering day by day until she ultimately passed away.

Through conversations with Mingtu Saiqiute, Yang Yu learned some demons use skills, but where demons come from and why they attacked elves, Mingtu Saiqiute had no clue either.

During her lived two to three thousand years, it was also her first time encountering demons.
