The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1095: Chapter 1095: As Expected, It’s About the Opening Ceremony

The people in the private room had all just finished the college entrance exams, so they resonated deeply with the shared memories of high school life. As they discussed topics like too much homework, staying up late cramming for tests, the conversation instantly took off. One person said something, another followed up, and very quickly a group of young people grew comfortable and familiar with each other.

Nathalie Quinlan didn’t say much. She only replied briefly when they occasionally involved her in the topic, answering with a few concise sentences.

In just thirty minutes, Tiffany Olsen and the others had roughly figured out her personality. She wasn’t particularly talkative, but her character was pleasant, and she treated people politely, making her easy to get along with.

Once everyone had an understanding of each other’s personalities, the conversation became even more lively. The topics transitioned from exams and school to questions like: How long have you been in Beijing? Have you visited certain landmarks yet? Do you know any good places to eat around campus?

Occasionally, new faces showed up at the private room’s door. They were probably all freshman students from the Chinese Medicine department this year.

Every time someone entered, a new round of ”self-introductions” would begin.

And then the same earlier topics would be rehashed.

Nathalie usually sat quietly on the side, listening to their chatter, occasionally glancing down at her phone to check messages.

Just then, Justin Wafford sent her a message: [Nathalie, I’ve arrived at the university. What about you? What are you up to? Are you in Beijing? Want to meet up for a meal?]

Several people from Class A had gained admission to universities in Beijing, but because they chose different majors, they ended up scattered across various schools.

Justin and Jhovany Sullivan originally planned to attend Tsinghua University together. However, something went awry during the application process, and in the end, Jhovany ended up in Southern University’s law program while Justin entered Tsinghua University’s bioengineering department. It seemed they had both recently arrived from McKinney, given the timing before classes started.

Nathalie, feeling a bit bored, propped her face on her hand and tapped at her phone absentmindedly to reply.

She had just sent off her response when the door to the private room swung open right after.

Winston Sullivan, having finished his tasks, rushed over in a hurry. The moment the door opened, the heat from outside poured in, colliding with the cool air inside the room in a burst of sweltering warmth.

”Professor Sullivan.”

”Mr. Sullivan.”

”...”

The room instantly became lively as Winston entered, with everyone dutifully greeting him.

Nathalie, who disliked the heat, picked up the air conditioner remote and lowered the temperature by two degrees. She then leaned back in her chair and, unlike the others who flocked over, adjusted the brim of her cap, revealing her glossy red lips and her elegantly pale neck.

Winston immediately spotted her. It was only upon seeing Nathalie there that he felt reassured.

After all, this ”big shot” in their department this year was infamous for not liking to socialize. Just a while ago, when Mr. Wafford organized a gathering, Nathalie hadn’t shown up. He’d worried she might skip this event as well.

Pulling out a chair, he sat down. Over the past two days, he’d only gotten five hours of sleep in total, and dark circles were beginning to shadow his eyes.

Still, despite the physical exhaustion, working in his beloved field of research left him deeply fulfilled. He warmly scanned the room full of new students in his department, smiled slightly, and, in even better spirits, said in a gentle tone, ”The purpose of today’s gathering is to give everyone a chance to meet and get to know each other. Also, there’s one more thing I’d like to discuss with you all.”

Winston’s personality wasn’t like Adelle Wafford’s sociable, smooth one. Of course, he also didn’t carry the same authoritative air that Adelle displayed in front of students. He was much more approachable, willing to blend in and connect with them.

”As you know, every year Tsinghua University holds an official opening ceremony, which is essentially like a school celebration! Your high schools probably also had school anniversary events, so you should have a general sense of what it’s like.”
