Chapter 132: Chapter 98: Mistakes Come at a Price (Part 2)

The corners of Mr. Baiyi’s mouth twitched slightly, and he immediately consoled, ”Mr. Sabo, you’ve worked hard. You can go ahead and attend to your matters. You don’t need to get involved with what’s next.”

Sabo rubbed his hands together, smiled, and asked, ”Well, my friend, there’s one more thing.”

”Go ahead,” Baiyi stopped, as they were approaching the official street. He preferred to finish the conversation here, for fear the people from the Kerry Clan might lose their composure.

”The Federation’s laws...”

”Oh, I only know the basics of that, haven’t delved too deep. In the future, I’ll probably only familiarize myself with Dongwu City’s laws.” Baiyi thought for a moment and said, ”Also, I’ll give you an emergency contact number soon. Just dial it, and you’ll be able to reach me within three seconds.”

”Is that so? Then I’m relieved.” As Sabo said this, he decisively turned away, happily merging into the crowd.

Baiyi breathed a sigh of relief and had just turned to take a few steps when a soldier’s eyes lit up upon seeing him, and the soldier hurriedly ran up, ”Mr. Baiyi, the City Lord is looking for you.”

”I understand, thank you.” Baiyi said as he headed toward the City Lord’s Mansion.

The way was unimpeded for Baiyi as he entered the main hall of the City Lord’s Mansion for the first time.

There were three people present now, the Old City Lord seated in the main seat, a courteous young blond man sitting across from him, and a thin, trembling middle-aged man standing next to the young man.

The three of them noticed Baiyi’s arrival and simultaneously turned their heads, each with a different expression.

Eric looked at Baiyi with his usual benevolent gaze, took a sip of coffee, and spoke softly, ”Let me introduce you. This is Xiao Ti from the Kaina Clan. He mentioned some misunderstanding with Dongwu City and wanted to clear it up with you in person.”

”Hello, Mr. Xiao Ti,” Baiyi greeted with a smile, sitting next to the City Lord, and sincerely asked, ”What misunderstanding are you referring to? I don’t seem to have heard of one.”

Xiao Ti spoke politely, ”Hello, Mr. Baiyi, you are even more handsome than the rumors say.”

After a sincere compliment, Xiao Ti regretfully explained, ”It is like this, your Finance Officer sought collaboration with us, then took away a hundred and fifty tons of Mithril at the price of five hundred Gold Coins.”

”I believe the price of Mithril should be transparent, so I’m here to see if it can be returned, or if we can redo the transaction at sixty percent of the market price. What do you think?”

The City Lord paused his tea-drinking hand, looking at Baiyi with a bit of helplessness. Five hundred Gold Coins for a hundred and fifty tons of Mithril... it seems it was wise not to let that cunning Dwarf become the Finance Officer before.

But now young people are in charge, and he doesn’t want to interfere too much; he just hopes the older ones can hold on without getting too upset.

Baiyi shrugged, ”I’m sorry, I’ve entrusted all matters relating to the Ministry of Finance to the Finance Officer. This isn’t something I can decide.”

Remaining polite, Xiao Ti said, ”I understand, but Mr. Baiyi also knows how important Mithril is to a clan. How about this: if you return this transaction, the Kaina Clan will compensate that Finance Officer; what do you think?”

Baiyi smiled and replied, ”I’m sorry, but I need to verify this matter first, so I can’t give you an answer just yet.”

”No rush, no rush. In your opinion, Mr. Baiyi, how long will it take to verify? My clan sent me mainly for that Secret Silver Mine, and I have no other tasks, so I can temporarily reside in Dongwu City and wait for you to complete the verification,” Xiao Ti said earnestly, his manner courteous and composed.

Baiyi smiled, ”If Mr. Xiao Ti wishes to stay in Dongwu City, of course, that’s fine. However, I’ve heard that you seemed to have signed a contract, haven’t you? It is said... you were the ones who breached the contract first.”

Upon hearing the words ’contract,’ Xiao Ti’s composure seemed to falter, a hint of gloom appearing in his eyes.

If not for the contract’s restrictions, that Sabo wouldn’t have walked out of that mining area with those Mithril, let alone take them away.

Clearly, it was that useless person beside him who signed the contract, but who knows why it transferred the contract onto those Mithril; if he dared act, not only would the Mithril fall into the Abyss, but everyone associated with the Secret Silver Vein would also be implicated.

He spoke with some suppression, ”Mr. Baiyi, we spent a considerable amount of money acquiring that mining area as well, so I feel this can still be negotiated. After all, it’s fifteen billion! For the Kaina Clan, that’s quite a significant amount.”

He was emphasizing the number fifteen billion and the name of the Kaina Clan, apparently preparing to leverage their power.

”I understand, but it was indeed your clan’s attempt to breach the contract clause. We don’t seem obligated to cover for your mistake; don’t you think?” Baiyi calmly countered.

Bam!

The middle-aged Race man slammed the table abruptly, his entire face reddening with anger, ”You just don’t want to return it, right? Doing business under the name of the city, is this how you operate? This is a crime! Do you even look like a City Lord of a large city?”

Xiao Ti’s finger twitched, but in the end, he did not stop his subordinate’s questioning. It’s inconvenient for these legitimate children to speak on some matters; if handled by a subordinate, the conflict could be minimized.

He feigned displeasure and reprimanded, ”Leta! Do not be rude!”

”And who might this be?” Baiyi turned with some confusion towards the middle-aged man, noting he was a Bronze Upper Tier... and wondered how he dared to speak to him like that.

”This gentleman is the manager of the mining area. He’s the one who signed the contract with the Finance Officer. If you wish, you can take a look at his Power of Contract.”
