Chapter 77: Chapter 74: Killed Until the Server Shut Down

[You have killed 8916 players, Experience Value +89160.]

[You have killed 8846 players, Experience Value +88460.]

[You have killed 8784 players, Experience Value +87840.]

[You have leveled up, your Level has reached 42.]

The power within Baiyi was growing stronger, and looking at the anger and hatred in the eyes of the players who were quickly rushing in, Baiyi’s sunglasses could barely suppress the scarlet glow.

The players were visibly enraged from being slaughtered, and given that their levels were now Level 1, it was without cost, plus Baiyi deliberately made those equipped players stay within a thousand meters from the communication device at the foot of the mountain, creating the current situation.

Although some players would quit after each group wipe, there was no large-scale exit, as being this far into the mission, failing it would indeed mean significant losses.

Much like a gambler’s mindset, always thinking the next bet would win the day.

For Baiyi, who saw this as a chance to soar, there was no way he would let it go. Players could play as long as they wanted. He had already leveled up five levels and could break through to Gold here. As for the negative state on the Dark Side, he still had nine small Soul Crystal Cores and one medium, so the problem wasn’t too severe.

”Ladies and gentlemen of Marvel...” Baiyi’s hoarse voice wanted to say something, but suddenly, all the players on site came to a halt.

Their bodies began fluctuating, giving an impression like an old radio suddenly losing signal.

The next moment, all players collectively disappeared without leaving a single trace.

Baiyi’s scarlet eyes behind the sunglasses looked somewhat dazed. Subconsciously, he looked around, and realizing something, he opened the players’ forum.

His forum was originally grey, and now it had turned a shade of grey-white. At the very top of the forum, a large line of text was conspicuous.

[Dawn Server is experiencing an anomaly, three servers are shut down for updates, estimated update time: 19 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes...]

Baiyi was stunned, did he... kill them until the server shut down?

At the same time, the two million gold coins displayed in red on the panel turned back to black, meaning... players’ mission failed, so no rewards needed to be distributed.

Baiyi silently walked back to the cabin, and a definitive malicious aura rose from him, his physical qualities rapidly ascending, instantly turning into the Evil Thought Baiyi.

The Teleportation Array activated, bringing a subtle dizziness, and in a flash, he arrived at the foot of the Undead Tomb.

About a kilometer away, equipment was scattered everywhere, those were the players’ gear and the items they had brought out from the tomb.

On the black mountains, reflections shimmered here and there, adorning the barren mountain to make it resemble a treasure hill.

Baiyi steadied his killer intent and collected the valuable items into his Storage Ring. As for the players’ equipment, he originally considered repainting or repairing them, then sending them back as a goodwill gesture to generate positive sentiment.

But it seemed there was no longer a need.

Collecting these items, over five thousand pieces of equipment were somewhat cumbersome. The Space Ring only had a hundred cubic units, and these pieces were piled into a small mountain, impossible to fit...

After some consideration, Baiyi picked through and stored higher-quality gear into the Space Ring, ignoring those of lower value, though Sabo would probably appreciate them.

Feeling the extreme malevolence tempting him in his mind, they seemed to want to lure his soul into evil thoughts, constantly intensifying the temptation.

Baiyi silently estimated, with his current Soul Strength, engaging in high-intensity combat on the Dark Side for two hours would reach the peak, necessitating a state switch and a rest of at least three days to recover fully.

He pondered for a moment, then took out a [Soul Crystal Core (Small)] from the Space Ring.

Crunch~

Baiyi took a bite of the Soul Crystal Core, and at once the sensation of soul ascension emerged, the object in his hand transforming from an invaluable material to the most delicious exotic delicacy on earth.

In three bites, he finished the Soul Crystal Core, and instantly his scarlet eyes slowly dimmed, restored to a restrained red hue.

[You consumed a Soul Crystal Core, soul slightly enhanced, Spirit Attribute +20.]

The voices in Baiyi’s mind enticing him to fall into the Abyss vanished, the power of his soul once again overwhelmed the transformation.

The same Soul Crystal Core had previously added forty points, but this time it was halved.

This didn’t surprise Baiyi; the same amount of water filled in a cup and a basin has a different share.

The soul had still enhanced to the same extent, but the stronger the Spiritual Power, the more different the enhancement appeared in terms of attribute points.

Glancing at the mountaintop, Baiyi headed for the Teleportation Array at the mountain’s base.

He needed to discuss matters of the Bone Dragon with Sabo. Given his level of contract expertise, meddling with a pre-drafted contract was still a bit lacking, a method had to be devised to extract Sabo’s inheritance of contract knowledge.

This technology was truly useful, and there was nothing so profound in the Knowledge Hall.

The Teleportation Array activated, Baiyi returned to the small wooden house, retrieved a few Teleportation Arrays, and Baiyi’s form restored to its original state, then activated the Teleportation Array leading to the shop.

With a wave of dizziness passing through consciousness, Baiyi shook his head and drank a bottle of Spiritual Recovery Potion.

Checking out the new Title, Baiyi still felt very satisfied.

[Name: Hunter.

Introduction: When the moment of the hunt comes, who is the prey? Who is the hunter?]

The identities of Light and Dark were split, and now the Light side was the Future Star with excellent prospects while the Dark side was the Dark Boss with terrifying combat power, complementing each other.

And a Five-Star Title was already considered a high-star title, the effects of which Baiyi was very satisfied with: tracking combined with stealth, both are attributes he needed.

At this point, there were some changes on Baiyi’s panel as well.

Boss Growth: You can choose a boss specialty every ten levels, currently available specialty choice: 1.

Evaluation: Am I a good person? Am I a bad person? Can’t they both be me?]

There was a specialty choice available, but Baiyi was not in a hurry to choose. Instead, the stability of the Dark Side surprised Baiyi.

There are several ways for Malice to grow. It no longer has level differences, and slaughter, absorbing malice, or adding negative materials can all make it grow.

But just now, he killed players at least ten times, which means more than a hundred thousand players, yet it didn’t cause any growth in the Dark Side.

Is it that all players have turned into experience value added to the Light Side, or is it because players lack souls, hence malice does not reside in players’ bodies?

Yet Baiyi keenly noticed that his Light Side gained a bit of charm, seeming a bit more handsome, while the Dark Side reached an outrageous -3 charm.....

He couldn’t quite understand the evaluation criteria of the Charm attribute. Is it based on human standards?

The most the Dark Side does is burst out tentacles...

However, Spiritual Power has already fully entered the realm of Gold, which is very important for an Alchemist, and he should also go learn more advanced Spiritual Attack Techniques.

Glancing at a Worker Bee on the table, inside it rested the soul of the Crimson Sacrifice. To avoid wasting it, Baiyi decided to wait for the arrival of the Soul Lantern.

Baiyi stood up, put on headphones, and connected with Sabo: ”Mr. Sabo, I need your help.”

”My friend, I’m at the City Lord’s Mansion now, I’ll come to find you later.” Sabo’s voice was a bit low, probably because someone was nearby.

”Got it.”

Baiyi cut off the communication and opened the player forum.

The forum was buzzing; almost all players from Dongwu City logged in to open their mics, frantically complaining and bashing the game, leaving players from other cities and the Federation stunned.

After understanding their experience, others couldn’t help feeling schadenfreude and wanted to complain as well, wondering why there can’t be an online update?

They were still in missions, and judging by the game’s quirks, their tasks were likely to fail entirely in twenty days.

Amidst the uproar, just an hour later, the game company issued another announcement, more frequent than in the entire year Baiyi had played.

[Update announcement, and content.]

Baiyi clicked into the post for a careful look, somewhat speechless. It basically said the task wasn’t completable for current players, being a game bug and such.

In subsequent updates, players would no longer have a fixed ten-second respawn timer; instead, respawn time would extend with each death, and those dying more than ten times a month would face a respawn time of up to twelve hours.

The game company would also restore data for players whose levels dropped due to this bug, offering 50 Silver Coins and 300 experience points as compensation.

Baiyi was somewhat speechless—was this targeting him? It must be targeting him specifically, right?

However, Baiyi noticed a rule: the anti-addiction system from his previous life didn’t seem to be online! Will it be activated at open beta, or is there just no such system anymore?

Pondering, Baiyi glanced at the comments; the number of complaints was still high, many people shouting about quitting the game.

But Baiyi was sure there would indeed be those who quit among ten thousand players, yet as the game continued to gain popularity, they would return.

Playing a fully virtual game with 97% realism, switching to any other game would be torture.

Continuing to scroll through the forum for a while, Baiyi earnestly researched books on Alchemy Transformation. Wanting to develop comprehensively, he couldn’t ignore any of the Alchemy Knowledge books.

Beep beep... beep beep..

The sound of the communication device rang. Baiyi checked the time; two hours had passed. He connected, and Luoning’s voice spoke up.

”Boss, Mr. Sabo is here.”

Baiyi’s eyes lit up with joy, standing up immediately and heading out.
