Chapter 75: Chapter 72: Undead Tomb

In the livestream, there were already people starting to stir, aside from the endless ”OMG” on the screen, the words ”Baiyi is awesome” kept popping up.

Because these days, the tasks Baiyi issued were extraordinarily numerous, basically about five each day, whomever encountered one could get rich.

And now, there was even a group task appearing?

Although it was a bit strange that he needed an invitation, he still agreed without hesitation: ”Don’t worry, Mr. Baiyi, it’s just, where do we meet you?”

Baiyi smiled and said: ”Just ten kilometers northeast of the East City Gate, there is a simple wooden house, three days later, I will be waiting for you there.”

”Okay, Mr. Baiyi, we will be there on time.” Guard Brigade said, gave a slight bow to Baiyi, and turned to leave. He needed to find a corner to make a video and try to find more players, hoping to make everyone able to join.

Because he discovered, this might be the opportunity for the plot to officially begin.

And after Guard Brigade left, Baiyi thought for a moment, walked back to the Dawn Potion Shop, and after entering the laboratory, Baiyi began to arrange the Teleportation Array.

As the Teleportation Array started, he just felt like someone had knocked him on the head, his head was dizzy.

When his vision gradually cleared, he had already come to a small wooden house.

After regaining consciousness, Baiyi began brewing potions.

The Necromancer’s graveyard was nearly a thousand kilometers away from Dongwu City, such a long distance, wanting to transport ten thousand players, this undoubtedly required a great cost.

And this was also the reason Baiyi went to the black market to buy those illegal items, the Undead Realm had a kind of liquid that could allow living beings who drank it to enter a state of Illusion Body temporarily, but the cost was the soul being tainted by ghost qi.

Creatures that were tainted had only two results, Undead Transformation, or direct death.

To every living being, this was an absolute taboo, basically drinking it meant death, and Undead Transformation was essentially dying but not completely dead.

And players had no souls, so they could perfectly avoid this negative effect, this allowed a weak creature to ride this frenzied Teleportation Array.

These days, he not only researched task mechanics but also made various preparations.

Bone Dragons, even if their level isn’t high, they are still dragons, in any world, as long as it involves the word ”dragon,” it represents power and costliness.

When Baiyi finished preparing everything, it had already reached the third night, it had been two and a half days since the player assembly task was issued.

Tomorrow noon was the final deadline.

If everyone had two hundred Gold Coins, the price of Gold Coins would undoubtedly drop, but the value of the closed beta Gold Coins would still not fall very low.

After all, aside from Baiyi’s tasks offering Gold Coins, most of those for commoners were in Copper Coins, and not even in triple digits.

They had to complete dozens of tasks to earn one Gold Coin from the system.

Moreover, the game’s only recharge channel was also Gold Coins, at twenty bucks per Gold Coin, so this led to, even in version 3.0, players’ private transactions were still ten bucks per Gold Coin, which was quite absurd.

And with the difficulty of acquiring closed beta Gold Coins, two hundred Gold Coins could be sold for at least one hundred thousand bucks, which was already a huge sum for ordinary players who play games.

This was also the reason why Dawn Ascension became increasingly popular, countless players were demanding the public test to start soon, of course, the game company continued to play dead, doing whatever it wanted without giving any response.

Baiyi was following Guard Brigade on the forum, now the participating players had exceeded nine thousand, and some still hadn’t logged on due to real-life reasons, but by tomorrow, the number should also exceed nine thousand eight hundred.

This was a terrifying number, sufficient to demonstrate the game’s popularity.

Baiyi brewed potions while waiting.

As time went on, players had begun to arrive one after another, they kept complaining, sighing.

”Damn, I’ve never run this far in real life, it’s killing me.”

”Does anyone else feel this world is so real? If you look closely at these grasses, they don’t even have saw-teeth, technology now is really advanced.”

”Advanced my ass, it must be alien technology, otherwise why are others still stuck at the VR stage?”

”Stop complaining, the officials haven’t said anything, there’s probably no issue, since we’re here, let’s just enjoy an Extraordinary life.”

”And you can make money too, rich folks really can splurge, a thousand bucks a Gold Coin, damn, that’s making bank.”

”Guard Brigade’s luck is good, chosen by Baiyi, Baiyi has the highest affection for him, this might also be a prerequisite to trigger tasks.”

Guard Brigade surveyed the surroundings, here was a meadow, without trees, only a wooden house on the grassland, appearing somewhat out of place.

As the assembly time arrived, players had filled the open space, the grass was trampled into the mud, the complaints also gradually disappeared.

Baiyi, seeing that it was about time, walked out of the small wooden house, looking at the endless players, a hint of excitement appeared in his eyes.

Magic Power surged in his mouth: ”Looks like there are quite a few willing to help me, I need to make this clear to you in advance.”

Magic Power carried Baiyi’s voice across the plain, overpowering the players’ noisy chatter.

”This time, what you will be exploring is a grave, your responsibility is to bring out the ancient artifacts intact, given your strength, this will be very dangerous, potentially fatal, anyone wanting to exit can leave now.”

Baiyi said, surveying around for about thirty seconds, seeing no one leaving, he satisfactorily continued: ”Since no one’s exiting, mentally prepare, I will teleport you to halfway up a mountain, the entrance to that grave is at the top.

There, only your marvel can safely enter, I have placed some communication devices at the foot of the mountain in advance, use the communication devices to contact me once you complete the task, I will bring you back.”

At the hem of his trench coat, thirty worker bees flew out, hovering over the players.

Baiyi smiled and said: ”In a moment, a liquid will be sprayed down, don’t panic, these are necessary conditions, after all, your bodies are too weak, unable to travel via Teleportation Array.”

Baiyi spoke as the thirty worker bees began spraying mist downward, the players’ panels immediately showed a prompt.

[Your body has been corroded by Ghost Qi, about to transform into Spirit Body state, duration five seconds.]

Before the players could grasp the meaning of the words, Baiyi had already activated that damned Teleportation Array.

Boom!

Suddenly, the players felt their consciousness being thrown into a washing machine, spinning around, as the entire world instantly turned blurry.

[You have entered a special Teleportation Array, you are hit with a strong dizziness effect, your Life Value has decreased by 30%, and you are in a weakened state.]

The panel’s notification popped up, and before the players could feel anything, their previously illusory bodies solidified again, then fell with a thud.

”Damn!”

As the players gradually recovered, low curses arose, soon blending into one.

”Mad, I feel like my brain’s been scrambled!”

”Don’t mention it, I feel like vomiting but can’t.”

”So this is the legendary space teleportation? Not even dogs would want this.”

”So Baiyi said they can’t come in, is that for real?”

”Probably very dangerous, right? The NPCs in this game are overly smart, maybe they’re just using us as pathfinders?”

”Who cares, two hundred Gold Coins, don’t you want it?”

”True, Baiyi said the entrance is at the mountain top, let’s hurry and finish it.”

The Guard Brigade shook his head slightly, feeling a bit uneasy as he looked around. There was not a single plant on this mountain, just a barren hill.

It was clearly broad daylight, yet it gave him a chilling sensation.

Looking up at the mountain top, it was completely black, with decayed trees strewn across the ground, giving a spooky feeling.

The occasional caw of a crow flying by made this lifeless mountain range even more eerie.

He quietly waited, and after about five minutes, the weakened state slowly faded, but the faint pain in his body still indicated his injuries weren’t minor.

”Crap, could there be ghosts? Why is it so eerie?”

”Why not trick A-San’s group to go first? If they can handle lizards, ghosts should be nothing.”

”Did we offend you Celestial Dynasty people? The game has a translation system, don’t push it too far!”

”So what? Want to fight?”

”You...”

The players argued as they hurriedly moved toward the mountain top in their own way, the Guard Brigade’s unease increasing, and he unconsciously slowed his pace, lagging behind the main group of players.

The snippets of conversation and the presence of nearly ten thousand players gave him little sense of security, with players averaging Level 3, maxing at Level 5, and less than a tenth having weapons of Bronze Broken Quality.

There was combat power, but not much.

Those higher-level players felt the same way, believing this dungeon was beyond their current capability.

But thinking about the other NPCs’ quests being twenty Copper Coins, and Baiyi’s quest being two hundred Gold Coins, it seemed like... blood money?

The mountain top was peculiar, besides the mess, there was a Bronze Gate, with a twisting force of air swirling ahead, causing unease.

A player tentatively touched this twisted thing, and immediately the panel’s notification sounded.

[You have entered a special area: Undead Tomb, you have blocked the Contract’s erosion...]

The player said happily, ”Heh, Baiyi wasn’t lying, there’s indeed the Power of Contract, why wasn’t I signed under a contract?”

”You idiot, didn’t you read the description? Players can’t sign contracts with the natives, otherwise, it would disrupt balance, after all, the worst punishment of a contract is death.”

”Who are you calling an idiot?”

”Shut up, this gate isn’t completely closed, if you’re not going in, I will!”

”I discovered it first, I’m going in first!”

The players rushed in one after another, faces full of eagerness, ready to hunt monsters. Having played the game for a week, they hadn’t even killed a single chicken, which was simply unbelievable.

The Guard Brigade exchanged a glance with a known high-level player, and they quietly left the group, heading to a place with fewer people.

”How do you feel?” The Guard Brigade asked softly.

”Not great, this place requires lives, or we’re just pathfinders.” Demacia replied with gravity.

The Guard Brigade sighed, ”I know, but two hundred Gold Coins, aren’t you tempted? It’s ten thousand times the ordinary NPC’s task, if it weren’t for something serious, it wouldn’t be just nine thousand nine hundred and five today, but everyone would be here.”

Demacia pondered, watching the players enter the gloomy, dark portal, ”I’m Level 5 now, worst-case scenario, I die once, with everyone else dead, I’d still be ahead.”

The Guard Brigade considered, his unease slightly dissipating, ”Yeah, it’s just a game, I’m overthinking it.”

Seeing the dissatisfied comments in the livestream, he stood up and whispered, ”Let’s go then, just afraid it’s not just once....”

As the last batch of high-level players entered the Bronze Gate, Baiyi unconsciously rubbed his hands on a tree not far from the gate, a peculiar expression in his eyes.

Seemingly a bit embarrassed about what he was about to do...
