Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Huo Jinnan finished a cigarette and looked towards Che Huan.

Che Huan tidied up her somewhat disheveled clothes and sat down in a spot far from Huo Jinnan. Annoyed, she spoke, ”Has he left?”

”He hasn’t.” Huo Jinnan lit another cigarette.

”...” Che Huan glanced over, unable to make out his face, seeing only the smoke swirling around. She remained silently biting her lip.

Time passed, and Qin Shaojin still did not return. She walked onto the balcony and saw that Gu Jizhou had not left. She quickly returned to the study and sat down on the other side.

Huo Jinnan did not speak again.

Che Huan really wanted to find a book to read, to relieve the awkwardness from before, but she felt too embarrassed to rummage through Lawyer Qin’s study. She sat there, unsure of what to do.

The atmosphere was unbearably awkward!

During their last meeting, he hadn’t done anything excessive, but this time it was really...

She looked at Huo Jinnan, biting her lip!

After a while, Huo Jinnan suddenly stood up.

Che Huan reflexively stood up as well.

Huo Jinnan glanced at Che Huan and walked towards her.

Che Huan instantly tensed up defensively.

Just when she thought Huo Jinnan was about to grab her wrist, she saw his arm change direction, reaching for her bag that was set aside.

Huo Jinnan glanced at Che Huan and, lowering his head, opened the bag. Seeing the rose-colored phone, he picked it up and pressed the power button.

Watching, Che Huan suddenly regretted not setting up a startup password, ”You can consider the phone returned to you!”

”Say that again and try me,” Huo Jinnan looked up at Che Huan. His slender fingers lightly touched the screen as he looked through her contacts. Not finding Gu Jizhou’s name, he added the letter A in front of his own name, quickly bringing it to the top of the list. Then he tossed the phone back into Che Huan’s bag.

Che Huan stood there, watching him put the bag back in its place. She breathed a sigh of relief, not daring to bring up changing the phone again. After hesitating for a moment, she asked in a low voice, ”Then why did you... why did you help me at first?”

Huo Jinnan sat down on the sofa, ”Want to know?”

She had asked, of course, she wanted to know!

Che Huan looked at Huo Jinnan without speaking.

Huo Jinnan’s gaze was deep as he stared at Che Huan, ”When the time is right, I will let you know.”

The right time?

When would the right time be?

Che Huan’s heart was uneasy. She felt as if she had involuntarily become embroiled in a formless, shadowy struggle that might overwhelm her at any moment!

Huo Jinnan closed his eyes, leaning back on the sofa with his long legs casually stretched across it, simply smoking.

The entire study was filled with the scent of tobacco. It wasn’t unpleasant, even somewhat pleasant, but within such an atmosphere it seemed to become a lethal warning signal!

Then she thought about the moments before, about yesterday, about the dream last night...

Che Huan sat there feeling uncomfortable all over, wanting to leave at once. Yet she remembered Gu Jizhou was outside, and with his temper, causing an uproar was certain if she went out now!

She tried to calm down, continuously looking out the window.

It was getting darker and darker outside, and Qin Shaojin was still nowhere to be seen, Gu Jizhou also seemed to have not left.

She could only stay in the study with him—Gu Jizhou’s uncle—unavoidably involved!

This connection was like a taboo, making one’s sense of sight and touch extremely sensitive.

Yet the man who had stirred up all the trouble lay there as if nothing was amiss, infuriatingly so!

Time passed, and at last, Huo Jinnan put out his cigarette and, lifting his sleeve, glanced at his watch, ”Hungry?”

Che Huan did not speak.
