Daddy Always Gets Jealous

”Mr. Gu, we haven’t found anything yet.”

”How long has it been, and you’ve found nothing? What are you even doing!”

Gu Jizhou threw the phone away and turned to his assistant, ”Get in touch with an international private detective for me, find the best one.”

”Yes, Mr. Gu.”

The assistant, trembling with fear, left the CEO’s office and soon delivered contact information for several private detectives to Gu Jizhou’s office.

Gu Jizhou called each one in turn; they all quoted an exorbitant price of one hundred million.

His face turned to iron as he spoke, ”As long as you can get to the bottom of this, one hundred million is no problem.”

The other party demanded a hundred million be deposited into their account upfront, and in the end, negotiations broke down, and they completely refused his business.

Sitting there, Gu Jizhou smoked an entire pack of cigarettes, and then looked at his assistant, ”Find someone skilled, to follow Huo Jinnan twenty-four hours a day, and report all his movements to me.”

”Yes, Mr. Gu.”

...

For an entire week, he was frantic with anxiety, receiving reports that were only trivial matters. Aside from photography and playing cards, Huo Jinnan had no other activities, and there were no clues in sight.

He fed all of the photos into the shredder, turned to his assistant, ”Tell him to be more cautious, Huo Jinnan is highly skilled, and it’s very likely he has already noticed someone is tracking him.”

The assistant’s voice trembled as he replied, ”Mr. Gu, the person we hired has been very careful; they shouldn’t have been noticed.”

Thinking of the last idiot who followed him for several days and found nothing, Gu Jizhou frowned, ”Is it possible to eavesdrop on his phone calls?”

”That... we can’t eavesdrop on his calls.”

”You can go now!”

Gu Jizhou glanced at his assistant, disappointed, and after a moment of silence, he dialed Huo Jinnan, ”Uncle, are you busy?”

Huo Jinnan was playing cards, and he replied, ”Not busy.”

”My aunt wants to visit Xiaowei, can I bring her along?” Gu Jizhou clenched the cigarette in his hand so tightly, due to the force, it became slightly deformed.

”No,” said Huo Jinnan as he swept the cards off the table, collecting the chips in front of Yu Zimu. He stood up and looked at Huo Bei, ”You take over for me for a bit.”

Gu Jizhou stood there, hearing the sound of mahjong shuffling, and frowned tightly. So, was he actually at the club playing cards right now?

The person with Che Huan wasn’t Huo Jinnan but Qin Shaojin!

But something felt off, even though he had seen Che Huan and Qin Shaojin leave the cafe together last night with his own eyes.

After a moment of silence, he heard the other end of the line grow much quieter.

Huo Jinnan stepped out of the private room, stood in the corridor, and glanced at the cohort leader who had followed, ”Don’t have people follow me again in the future; it’s unnecessary.”

Gu Jizhou took a harsh drag on his cigarette, ”Uncle, you misunderstand...”

Huo Jinnan’s lips were tightly pressed together, and his voice came out icy cold, ”I’m only going to say this once.”

”Dial tone...”

Hearing the busy signal, Gu Jizhou slammed his phone down onto the floor, stood there clenching his fists tightly, loosening, then gripping again, his knuckles white, and the veins on the back of his hands bulging out.

What did Huo Jinnan mean by speaking so clearly?

After standing for a while, he sat back down at his desk and phoned Gu Yunqing, ”Aunt, how is it going with my uncle?”

Considering she hadn’t even seen him, Gu Yunqing leaned back in her office chair, ”The same as always.”

Gu Jizhou was silent for a moment, then spoke low, ”Isn’t it said that, when a woman pursues a man, it’s like a veil separating them?”
