Chapter 1390: Chapter 371: Sacrifice_3

However, this again incited Mautendorf’s dissatisfaction, and he said, ”Then how should the Empire handle the losses caused by Serbia?”

Fromm replied, ”Serbia has become a battleground, losing a large population. Representative Mautendorf should not be too harsh on Serbia; to a certain extent, they are also victims.”

”As for the losses of Austria-Hungary, haven’t you already obtained the Bosnia region? This time, we in the United Kingdom can promise to support your country’s legitimate rights over Bosnia, while Serbia will compensate Austria-Hungary with war reparations.”

Although before the war, Austria-Hungary had practically controlled and occupied Bosnia and placed it under its official rule, the sovereignty of Austria-Hungary over this area had never been recognized by the International Community.

This has also been the legal basis for Serbia’s continuous provocation of Austria-Hungary, and now the British intend to confirm the legal basis of Austria-Hungary’s rule over Bosnia, in exchange for Austria-Hungary’s concessions and compromises on the issue of Serbia’s reckoning.

However, Mautendorf was clearly dissatisfied with this point and said, ”Representative Fromm, Bosnia was already the Empire’s territory before the war, and you’re just using our original territory to protect Serbia, this war criminal. Isn’t this allowing us to nourish a tiger to cause trouble?”

Fromm said, ”Humph, don’t worry, we in the United Kingdom can guarantee that Serbia will no longer propagate and insist on the so-called Greater Serbia, and if they do, we in the United Kingdom will be the first to teach them a lesson.”

Representative Mautendorf said, ”That’s not enough. After all, Serbia caused great harm to the Empire’s economy, and many innocent imperial citizens were persecuted by Serbia during the war, so Serbia must pay for this.”

Fromm then said, ”That’s also not a problem. Serbia can cede part of its territory to compensate for your country’s losses, hand over part of the war criminals to calm your country’s anger, and make certain compensations to your country’s war victims, which will also be included in the reparations.”

At this point, Fromm no longer cared about Serbia’s losses since the United Kingdom considers it fulfilling their duty as long as Serbia continues to exist.

Moreover, in Fromm’s view, Serbians should be grateful to the United Kingdom; after all, now Serbia only has a government in exile and has no bargaining power, or even much utilization value.

If it weren’t for the fact that there was really no one usable in the Balkans, the United Kingdom wouldn’t have gone through such painstaking efforts to preserve Serbia.

Mautendorf added, ”There’s also a share for Bulgaria.”

Fromm: ”That’s natural. Since Serbia is the defeated party, it certainly needs to bear the consequences. Bulgaria can take back the land lost in the last Balkan conflict.”

Through a series of arrangements by Fromm, Serbia could be said to return overnight to pre-liberation, not only having to give up the previously acquired lands, but its original territory must also shrink significantly. However, there is no other choice, as the United Kingdom simply cannot waste too much effort on Serbia.

After all, in the Balkan Peninsula, the United Kingdom’s main focus is still Greece, which had previously fallen. The most important thing now is to maintain Greece’s strength and prevent it from being divided by the Allies.

Compared to Greece, Serbia is completely insignificant, since it was already said earlier that Serbia’s biggest supporter was actually Tsarist Russia. But later, due to war considerations and the collapse of the Russian regime, the British had to personally take on the mess of Serbia.

Greece, on the other hand, is entirely different. Greece itself is an area controlled by British capital, coupled with its unique geographical location, it has always been Britain’s helper to restrain Balkan states and block the Black Sea.

After all, Britain is a maritime power, and Greece is also a maritime country. Moreover, Greece’s position can influence the Balkan Peninsula and pose a threat and impact on neighboring countries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.

Therefore, the most important thing for Britain now is to retrieve their little brother, Greece, from the hands of the Allies, and sacrificing Serbia’s interests is completely acceptable for this purpose.
