High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1050: Chapter 112: Confirming Positions

Zheng Qing was highly suspicious that the gray squirrels in the school possessed some kind of bizarre magical talent.

The bump that formed on his forehead after being hit by an acorn was so hard and throbbing with pain that didn’t reveal itself until he woke up the next day. It was very similar to certain attack effects that came with enchanted magic.

Like a certain wizard’s ’Love’s Iron Fist’.

This made him quite upset as he drafted the line drawing for Saturday, knowing the graph for the next morning would start lower due to his discomfort upon waking up.

Equally dreadful was the line drawing from the previous day.

On Saturday night, the Absolution Hunting Team, along with Jiang Yu, Li Meng, a plush bear, and two mice, stealthily searched around the academy for most of the night, but never encountered the faceless monster the mice had mentioned.

However, they did encounter a considerable number of venomous insects like scorpions and worms—each time, the Ears Brother would shout for others to help catch them, and then joyfully gather them up.

This made the young scholarship student very suspicious that the two mice had ill intentions and were simply using fake news to trick them into catching venomous bugs for them.

On one hand, training in the complex nighttime environment was very beneficial for the growth of the Absolution Hunting Team; on the other hand, the scenes Zheng Qing had ’witnessed’ in his dreams also indirectly corroborated the mice’s story, so he eventually did not voice his doubts.

Aside from the aggravating line drawings, the increasingly eerie and complicated atmosphere in the school was also unsettling.

The covert and overt clashes between Blood Comrades and Sacred Will were becoming more frequent, which affected student self-governing bodies like Club Union in a negative way. Yet, the only entity that could suppress them—the professors’ joint meeting—was largely focusing their attention elsewhere within the school.

Zheng Qing had heard that some student council members had sought help from the professors, only to be brushed off with excuses like ’student autonomy,’ ’gentlemen agree to disagree,’ and ’seek common ground while preserving differences’—which was quite frustrating.

Originally adhering to a neutral policy, Zheng Qing had instructed all members of his club not to get involved in the struggles between the two major guilds in the school; for this reason, he had also politely declined invitations from Lei Zhe and Augustus.

This was a very poor decision.

After all, the school was so small that everyone was always in each other’s faces. Without sufficient power, the weak hardly had any autonomy when it came to matters involving certain ’core spirits.’

As someone once said, under the limitations of capability, there was only the choice to act or not, without the liberty to choose otherwise. When two fishermen fought, they would never tolerate a crane standing by indifferently. They were more likely to join forces to kill the crane, scald its feathers, and split it in half.

Within just two weeks of school starting, Zheng Qing had deeply felt the consequences of choosing ’neutrality.’

Not to mention that the Judgement Hunting Team, which had originally agreed to train the Absolution Hunting Team for free, began to procrastinate on new training plans. It was troubling enough just obtaining a training ground, which had people running around exhaustively—if it hadn’t been for Zhang Ji Xin relaying advice from his brother, Zheng Qing couldn’t have imagined the extent of influence large guilds held.

Therefore, on Sunday afternoon, Zheng Qing took two hours to call a meeting with all members of Absolution Knight Group in the small D&K shop to discuss how to handle this pressing decision.

”Is there any room to discuss this matter?” Xin Fat Man had been racking his brains over the last few days writing an article about the ’hazard of using feather pens on avian creatures’, so his attitude at the meeting seemed slightly impatient, ”We are students of Jiuyou Academy, naturally, we should choose Lei Zhe! Moreover, the Elder’s brother is also one of Lei Zhe’s people, and our hunting team was trained by the Judgement too... I see no need for any dilemma.”

Lin Guo, Dylan, Blue Bird, and Monk Shi Yuan silently raised their hands.

Zheng Qing hurriedly interrupted Fat Man’s words, ”We are from Jiuyou, but Lin Guo is from Alpha Academy, Dylan and Blue Bird are from Starry Sky Academy, Shi Yuan is from Atlas... Absolution is from First University, not Jiuyou Academy’s Absolution.”

That being said, it was clear to everyone present that Absolution mainly belonged to Jiuyou Academy. However, that wasn’t a reason for the club to ignore the interests of members from other academies.

”That wasn’t what I meant...” Fat Man muttered, but his voice gradually lowered, making it unclear what he said afterward.

Zheng Qing, exercising patience, waited for a moment, but no one else spoke.

Thus, he asked in a consultative tone, ”Suppose, just suppose we overwhelmingly sided with Sacred Will... would anyone see any difficulties in their studies or daily life?”

Although he used the word ’everyone’ in his question, Zheng Qing’s gaze stayed on Lin Guo. Of the entire club, only Lin Guo was from Alpha Academy, and comparatively, he faced much more resistance than others from Starry Sky or Atlas.

Unfortunately, Zheng Qing’s concerns were completely wasted.

Lin Guo was squatting in front of several big cats, contentedly stroking them and listening to their purring, completely unaware if the meeting’s content related to him or not.

It was Xiao Xiao who answered the question for him.

”Our relationship with the Blood Comrades has always been poor,” Xiao Xiao liked to adjust his glasses whenever he answered a question, perhaps thinking it made him appear more formal, ”If no one here has the memory of a goldfish, you should remember the fight we had on Pedestrian Street with the people from Blood Comrades before the start of last semester... Although Arthur Ness was acting under the name of Club Union 3A at that time, it later became clear that they were also representing the Blood Comrades.”

”Perhaps Augustus was broad-minded and didn’t fuss over these details too much, but as the saying goes, ’new king, new court’, now that Augustus has abdicated, it’s hard to guess whether his successors will be influenced by people like Arthur Ness.”

”The two known contenders for Augustus, whether Sir Friedman or Lord Sepulano, have all had conflicts with us. We cannot alienate one side, then the other.”

”As for Lin Guo, due to his age, he naturally has more leeway in choosing his stance... and, I remember he is protected by all the witches of Alpha Academy, so regardless of any conflict with the Blood Comrades, he won’t run into any trouble.”

The analysis was incisive and convincing, making Zheng Qing nod repeatedly. Even the other members of the club had few objections.

Except for Lin Guo.

He was somewhat displeased with the mention by Xiao Xiao of ’witch protection’ and had no good counter arguments, so he could only frown, turn his back, and continue petting the cats.

”If that’s the case, then later, I’ll reply to Lei Zhe, confirming our participation in their hunting team training session scheduled for some time later.” Just before the meeting concluded, Zheng Qing emphasized once more, ”Since we have chosen Lei Zhe, I hope everyone will take a stand on related issues in the future and not cause any trouble for the club.”
