High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1009: Chapter 71 Deficiency in Ability

After the flame-faced figure burst, those deep red sparks scattered, alternating with the stars that sprang from Zheng Qing’s eyes, leaving elegant trails on his retina.

Su Shijun blew on her palm and then casually snapped her fingers with a crisp sound.

The binds around Zheng Qing instantly disappeared without a trace.

The warlock immediately sprang up tensely, patting his grey cloth bag at his waist. But this foolish act lasted only a few seconds before he realized, and then he sat back down awkwardly.

”Sorry,” he said, staring into Su Shijun’s eyes and speaking in a low voice, ”that was just a reflex.”

The witch cocked her head, a smile that was not quite a smile on her face.

”How interesting,” she said lazily, just like before, ”it’s the first time a warlock’s reflex in front of me is to attack... It seems now is not the right time for a chat. If there’s nothing else...”

As she spoke, she pursed her lips and glanced out the window, her meaning was clear— if there was nothing else, she was about to respond to that ’flame-face’s’ request, to help Beta Town with the dark tide incident.

There was a slight pause in Zheng Qing’s expression.

”You haven’t told me what danger I’m in,” the young cost student complained in an attempt to keep the tone light. To appear friendly, he once again abandoned the use of honorifics.

”Ah, that issue,” Su Shijun raised a finger, pressed it against her forehead, pondered for a moment, and then slowly responded, ”Because your identity is rather sensitive, so from now on, until the appropriate time comes, you can’t participate in any hunts outside of school or engage in other disputes... to avoid accidents.”

”Like the incident during last winter’s hunt,” Zheng Qing murmured.

”Bingo!” The witch snapped her fingers and continued, ”Specifically, you cannot step outside the scope of the school’s Guardian Array... Things like that little shop you opened on Pedestrian Street or wanting to go to Wandering Bar for drinks with friends should also be minimized.”

”When is the right time? Will someone notify me?” Zheng Qing couldn’t help but interrupt Su Shijun. He felt as if an invisible rope was tightening around his neck, making it difficult to breathe, ”Why can’t you guys just tell me the facts straightforwardly?”

Mr. Wu, Su Shijun, and even Professor Yao and the like, they all seemed to know about him, yet he didn’t. That feeling of being kept in the dark was terrible.

Terrible.

”Because you’re too weak.” Su Shijun didn’t shy away from those awful adjectives, pointing out clearly, ”You’re not even at the level of a registered wizard... just carrying around the Merlin Medal and the title of Great Arcana has exhausted you, seeking help everywhere. Then what about bigger and heavier responsibilities? Do you think you can handle them now?”

Her words left Zheng Qing speechless, and he fell into a deep silence.

”My Talisman Studies aren’t bad,” he said, forcing a smile after a long silence, trying to salvage some dignity.

”Indeed, not bad,” Su Shijun nodded and then gave him a glance, ”but that’s all there is to it. When you’re able to burst a descendant of Satoguya with a single spell, without the need for a Charm Gun, then perhaps you’ll have enough power to bear the truth.”

Zheng Qing sighed deeply.

He knew he wasn’t going to get any more information from Su Shijun.

Picking up the teacup from the table and swallowing the tea, which had cooled a bit, the young wizard suddenly remembered something else.

”Professor Montreya,” he muttered the name softly.

”What?” Su Shijun raised an eyebrow.

”Professor Montreya, a professor at First University responsible for bloodline research, someone you’re acquainted with, right?” Zheng Qing had just remembered something Old Yao had cautioned him after Moon Hunting, as if he had grabbed hold of a rope. He looked at Su Shijun, ”Some time ago, Professor Yao suggested that I consult with Professor Montreya about a health issue... He said you were well acquainted with Professor Montreya and could write me a letter of introduction.”

Having said that, his expectant gaze fixed on the witch, his intention clearly unfulfilled.

Su Shijun’s face showed a hint of displeasure, ”Old Yao is the dean of Jiuyou Academy, isn’t his face bigger than mine? What does he mean... Why should I write it!”

Zheng Qing, of course, could not join Su Shijun in calling Professor Yao ’Old Yao’.

”Perhaps the professor felt it more appropriate.” His response was vague.

”Appropriate be damned.” Su Shijun closed her eyes and let out a heavy sigh, and her figure instantly vanished from the sofa.

Zheng Qing was stunned for a moment and reached out for the fruit dish on the table.

He had been eyeing that bunch of large, purple grapes for a while, but because the witch had been continuously eating them, he had felt awkward about reaching for some. Now that she was gone, the warlock thought he should seize the opportunity.

But before he could peel the grapes, Su Shijun appeared before him once again.

Only this time, the witch was already adorned in a long, red cloak, ready to go out.

”I will write you the letter of introduction,” her gaze was pinned on Zheng Qing’s hand as he pinched the grape, her tone slightly unfriendly, ”This will depend on your performance... There is less than a week left of winter break, and you should act more responsibly at Poseidon’s.”

Zheng Qing was tempted to drop the grape in his hand but felt it would be rude; to eat it directly seemed even ruder.

In his hesitation, he simply held onto the grape as he replied.

”Okay.” Feeling the pressure of responding while sitting on the sofa, the young public-funded student stood up, hiding the hand holding the grape behind his back, ”Lately I have also felt that Poseidon’s play during the winter break is a bit excessive, tonight, no, this evening, I will take him to the library to do homework!”

The answer seemed responsible, yet oddly strange.

Su Shijun frowned, hesitated for a moment, but eventually did not dwell on this subject.

”Also, don’t discuss today’s matters with your companions... if you don’t want me to hit you with a powerful memory erasure spell, then forget everything we just talked about and saw, cleanly and thoroughly.” Su Shijun seemed to know what he was about to ask, waved her hand to stop him, ”It’s for everyone’s benefit. A limited benefit.”

Zheng Qing would not discuss the matter with his companions even without her warning.

To be exact, he knew nothing, so naturally there was nothing to discuss with them.

”Oh, by the way,” Su Shijun mentioned carelessly before leaving, ”there’s a girl in your class named Jiang Yu who has found out about Poseidon’s relationship with me... of course, she’s smart and has signed a silence agreement. Hmm, just to let you know, don’t act too foolish in front of others.”

Zheng Qing turned pale, watching the flash of red disappear into the reception room.
