High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1001: Chapter 63 Multichambered Organisms

Xin Fat Man’s question was very rude.

Yet, Xin Fat Man’s question was quite intriguing.

When everyone thought Xin Fat Man’s question was interesting, politeness naturally got tossed aside by these shameless folks.

After all, the tribe warriors were hundreds of meters away from them; even if they shouted, the other side might not hear clearly. Moreover, Xin Fat Man lowered his voice with a thief’s guilty conscience.

”Hmm, that indeed is a problem,” Zhang Ji Xin, with one hand on his chest and the other pinching his chin, seriously sized up the centaur warrior not far away, murmuring, ”Considering their reproductive system is on the horse part, I believe they nurse their offspring with horse milk. Absolutely.”

As he spoke, he nodded with unusual confidence.

This made Xin Fat Man, who had raised the question, shake his head vigorously.

”Have you dissected a centaur or seen their nursing firsthand? Or have you seen what they have in front?” Xin Fat Man retorted, ”If not, how can you be sure what you’re saying is right? If you can’t be sure, what gives you the right to say ’absolutely’?”

Watching the discussion between the two, over such a bizarre topic, spiral into absurdity, Zheng Qing hurriedly coughed loudly a few times to interrupt their argument.

”Ahem, manners! Manners!!” the captain of the Absolution Hunting Team squeezed through, positioning himself between the two brutes, looked around, and hissed, ”Mind your image, you represent the image of the Absolution Hunting Team!”

With that, he glanced around with a meaningful look in his eyes.

Not far from them, several witches were looking back at them with interest, seemingly eager to join their conversation.

This gave Zheng Qing a strange feeling.

He paused before adding, ”What’s there to argue about this? Doctor Xiao is right by us, just ask him, can’t we? I don’t believe that throughout the long history of centaurs, no other wizard has taken an interest in such matters!”

His words brought a sudden realization to the two men.

Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man immediately turned to Doctor Xiao, who was calmly standing beside them, looking at him expectantly, hoping he could provide a definitive answer.

Doctor Xiao, true to his reputation, began a scholarly analysis without even flipping through his notebook:

”To analyze the lactation issue of centaurs, we must start from the classification of the centaur species.”

”Centaurs, as the name suggests, are magical creatures with half-human, half-horse forms. In the Wizard World’s Great Encyclopedia, centaurs are classified under the Magical Creature Kingdom, Chordata Phylum, Polycavity Class, Mammalia Order, Subhuman Species, Human Horse Tribe, Centaur Genus... Specifically for the tribe in front of us, they should belong to the ’Bojige Island Silent Forest Centaur Species.’”

Listening to this series of dizzying terms, Zheng Qing sighed deeply in his heart.

He knew full well about the Doctor’s habit of playing the wise teacher, yet he had egged on the Elders and Xin Fat Man to ask the Doctor this question. Now that he had piqued the Doctor’s interest, it would be hard to interrupt and get away with it.

A classic example of courting disaster by one’s own hands.

”...When you look at centaurs and minotaurs, they seem to be half-human creatures. They look quite similar, do you think they belong to the same category of magical creatures?” Xiao Xiao, at this point, looked at his fellow onlookers as if posing a question, his gaze filled with encouragement, ”Share your thoughts.”

”Yes, I think they are a category of magical creature,” Zheng Qing immediately raised his hand, forcibly ending the Q&A session.

”Wrong, completely and utterly wrong!” Having achieved the desired effect, Doctor Xiao shook his head in satisfaction, refuting, ”Minotaurs, despite their unique appearance, can ultimately be classified as part of the Alien Category, Subhuman Species, Minotaur Genus... In other words, broadly speaking, they are still human.”

”They are merely humans with differentiated heads and hooves.”

”Centaurs, however, are different.”

”Among magical creatures, centaurs, along with owls, Herl fish, Fat Heritage, and so on, belong to a category that falls under Chordata and Polycavity Class, also commonly known as ’Multi-bodied Creatures.’

”In other words, they are creatures with two or more body cavities.”

”For example, the Nine-headed Bird is an owl with one head and three bodies; the Herl fish is a fish with one head and ten bodies; and there’s Fat Heritage, with one head and two bodies. Uh, let me add, Fat Heritage not only has two bodies but also six legs and four wings! It truly exemplifies the concept of biological diversity.”

”Of course, the aforementioned creatures form a striking contrast with ’multi-headed creatures’ like the Nine-headed Bird, Cerberus, Double-headed Worms, and so on... But we won’t delve into that discussion right now.”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing let out a big sigh of relief—he was really worried Doctor Xiao would turn the battlefield into his personal classroom, which would make the atmosphere very strange.

Next to him, Xiao Xiao was already starting his summary, ”Centaurs also have one head and two bodies. However, unlike similar multi-cavity creatures, a centaur’s two bodies belong to two different species.”

”They have the thoracic cavity of a human and the thoracic cavity of a horse.”

”Therefore, to discuss the lactation aspect of centaurs, one must do so within the corresponding species environment to avoid errors. As for multi-cavity creatures, in the mainstream view of contemporary wizards, they are typically classified based on the part where their ’head’ or ’soul’ resides...”

Zhang Ji Xin, who had a short temper, could no longer contain himself and blurted out, ”Can’t you just directly tell us who’s right and who’s wrong?”

Xiao Xiao stopped his analysis, adjusted his glasses, and looked at him with disdain.

”A rotten wood cannot be carved,” he snorted lightly, finally steering away from further elaboration and instead gave the final answer: ”Both of you are wrong, yet both of you are also right.”

”Centaurs, when they’re just born, lactate on the human side for the first month; after a month and before three years, the young foals lactate on the horse side.”

Zheng Qing immediately clapped his hands, interrupting Xiao Xiao’s speech, and praised repeatedly, ”Good, very good, today everyone has learned something new... Let’s give a round of applause to thank the doctor for his teachings!”

Immediately afterward, he changed the subject, reminding everyone, ”Umm, it’s getting late, pay attention to the marketplace entrance and be ready for battle at any moment!”

Xiao Xiao sighed in regret, adding softly with a sense of incompletion, ”...In fact, the modern centaurs are a kind of failed creation. The original Big Wizard intended to create a creature that had the strength and stamina of a horse, and the intelligence and skill of a human. Their upper bodies were meant to be like a neck, filled only with muscles and skeletons, not the form we see today...”

He didn’t manage to fully articulate his additional thoughts.

That’s because in front of the position, a centaur warrior with a short gun slung across his back and a long spear in his hand was charging back and forth on horseback, shouting consecutively, ”Wait for the fire order!”

”Wait for the fire order!”

”Wait for the fire order!”
