High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1036: Chapter 98: The Lament of a Different Approach but Similar Skill

Indeed, the Gypsy witches had no recollection of Zheng Qing’s mention of ”two moons in the night sky yesterday.”

”Two moons? Was there really?!”

Elena looked at the young cost student with skepticism, her attractive finely arched eyebrows knitted together, ”How come I don’t remember there being two moons in the sky last night?”

Zheng Qing sighed softly in his heart.

”Maybe I saw it wrong,” he slightly adjusted his emotions, then replied with a smile, ”It could also be that the other moon appeared for too short a time... Right after I saw it, I immediately called Xiao Xiao and the others to look, but by the time we looked up, the other moon had disappeared.”

As he spoke, he had already packed up his books and other items.

More than ten minutes had passed since the end of class, and most students had already left the classroom. Only a few remained, either buried in copying lecture notes they had missed, scribbling homework for other subjects, or previewing the content for the Talisman class in the afternoon.

If the two of them continued chatting in the classroom, it seemed rather inconsiderate of the other students.

Of course, Zheng Qing would never admit that a small part of the reason was because Jiang Yu was also in the classroom at the moment, tutoring Li Meng’s coursework. As the classroom gradually emptied, he always felt an inexplicable pressure brewing around him.

So, with his guidance, the two of them left the classroom together and continued their conversation as they walked.

As they walked out of the academic building and saw the research building in the distance, Elena seemed to remember something and exclaimed softly.

”Ah, that’s right... The Astronomical Observatory might have a record.” The Gypsy witch immediately gave Zheng Qing a very good suggestion.

The Astronomical Observatory was the institution managing the school’s astronomical telescopes and also took part in adjusting some of the climate in collaboration with the School Works Committee. Located at the top of the experimental building, it also managed several of the school’s astronomical towers.

Given the special status of star signs in traditional magic, even in the year 9002, the Astronomical Observatory still had to monitor the thousands of stars in the night sky daily, recording their trajectories and brightness, providing necessary data support for the school’s Divination work. Any student taking a Divination Class at the school could apply to access these basic data records.

Zheng Qing had a prepared response for this.

He shrugged his shoulders, showing a touch of perplexity on his face, ”There’s no record of it at the Astronomical Observatory... Perhaps it was just as I said before, an illusion. Anyway, my eyes turning red must have happened last night. Xiao Xiao also said he remembered that my eyes were still a normal color when the meeting ended last night.”

”You should tell Professor Yao about this, just like you did before,” Elena still seemed somewhat concerned.

”Relax, relax, I have experience with this kind of thing, it’s not a big deal,” Zheng Qing stretched his arms, yawning and then looking at the witch with a tilted head and a smile, ”Just like Doctor Xiao said, ’The Blood Race tends to be sensitive to sunlight, werewolves react strongly to silver elements, the undead is in synergistic opposition to vitality; your eyes turning red might be similar to these situations’.”

The warlock pinched his throat, imitating Xiao Xiao’s tone of voice and even adjusted his glasses in a vivid impression, immediately amusing Elena.

”Where’s Doctor Xiao?” She craned her neck, looked around, and then raised her eyebrows, ”No wonder you dare to tease him like that. Why haven’t I seen him with you today? Usually, you two are inseparable.”

Zheng Qing immediately put a finger to the witch’s lips and made a ’shush’ gesture.

A blush appeared on Elena’s face immediately.

Zheng Qing also quickly realized that his behavior was somewhat rash.

A few passing witches noticed the young wizards’ interaction and chuckled, whispering to each other, and scampered past them. One round-faced witch even turned her head to glance at them curiously.

This time, Zheng Qing’s cheeks also felt a bit hot.

He cleared his throat, casually retracting his finger, and then spoke rapidly, ”Xiao Xiao should be at the library now... Remember, don’t talk to the doctor about topics like ’fairness’ or ’reporting’ for the next few days.”

Seeing the puzzled expression on the witch’s face, Zheng Qing sighed and recounted everything from the meeting last night from the start. From Mrs. Pulitzer’s report, to the discussions among the companions, and finally to Xiao Xiao’s ’fair language theory.’

Zheng Qing always maintained a skeptical attitude about Xiao Xiao’s talk on ’fair language.’

On one hand, he thought what Xiao Xiao said made sense, that language inherently carried certain biases; on the other hand, he felt it was not appropriate to replace expressive languages with machine language.

To some extent, he thought machine language was a regression of natural language. It was like a three-dimensional, color world regressing into a two-dimensional black-and-white picture. More objective? Yes. But in the process, more information might be lost.

Similarly, the recent turmoil between the two major student societies at First University also left the young cost student somewhat puzzled.

Frankly speaking, he thought both the educational philosophies of Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy had their own merits and demerits.

Equality was good, and so was freedom; justice was good, and so was righteousness.

None of these words was harsh on the eyes. But merely confining the philosophy of education to these terms was far from enough. Just like Xiao Xiao’s proposed ’fair language,’ mechanization to a certain extent was a betrayal of the original concept.

After all, humans are sentient beings, not purely rational entities.

Interactions between people should include more care, more consideration, more compassion, more love. As the saying goes, beyond the law lies morality, and beyond morality lies love.

If everything was done according to regulations, rules, and preset procedures, and all news was completely neutral and objective, then there would be no difference between people and machines. The frequently seen future of humanity being ruled by machines in science fiction films is not unimaginable.

Remember, the term ’robot’ refers not only to machines but also to humans.

Of course, Zheng Qing did not share these messy thoughts with Xiao Xiao—he believed that if he even slightly opened up, he’d probably have to endure a week of incessant nagging from Doctor Xiao.

Similarly, now as he chatted with Elena, Zheng Qing only briefly described some of the content discussed by the Absolution Hunting Team last night—in fact, half-way through the topic, Zheng Qing regretted bringing it up.

He realized once again that he wasn’t good at small talk.

Just like at the Moon Hunting Dance, when he first danced with Elena, he ended up discussing philosophy. Today’s chat felt similarly misplaced.
