High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1048: Chapter 110: Xiao Bai’s Shoes and Claws

”Don’t call people idiots!” Jiang Yu was quite dissatisfied with the language Li Meng used in her answer.

”They took a few days off and didn’t go to work, so what they do after work is their freedom.” Zheng Qing answered Li Meng’s questioning from a different angle, explaining why the two mice were not working in the shop.

”Is the school’s Guardian Array really that powerful? Wild Demons without labels keep popping up every three days, and Black Wizards from outside the island sneak in easily. Do you still dare to brag about how powerful the Guardian Array is?!” Dangdang Ears also mocked Li Meng’s words heavily.

Ding Dong Ear, on the other hand, didn’t speak while the others were answering Li Meng’s questions; instead, it stood up and casually drew a circle on the trunk of an old willow tree.

”You’re asking us how we escaped from that monster?” It puffed out its chest, looked up at the Little Witch, and said with a confident demeanor, ”That’s because we have the talent for ’Escape’! On this island, there are very few places that can hinder our free roaming... The Mouse Clan has lived under the school for so long, have you ever heard of any mouse being captured?”

Hearing this, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but cough softly to remind, ”Recently, a certain mouse that played dead...”

Ding Dong Ear glared fiercely at the scholarship student, signaling him to shut up, but this made its next statement sound less confident: ”Even cats can’t catch us, let alone a monster without a face.”

It seemed to reinforce the persuasiveness of its words; Ding Dong Ear turned around, placed its two short forepaws on the circle it had previously drawn on the tree trunk. Without muttering any spell, the circle suddenly lit up and transformed into a tree hollow.

Without saying another word, Ding Dong Ear leaped into the tree hollow.

Zheng Qing hesitated about whether to put aside his pride and peek into the tree hollow to see what the structure of the cave was, when suddenly he heard Li Meng scream.

Turning around, he couldn’t help but laugh.

It turned out that after Ding Dong Ear had entered the tree hollow, it had not gone far but instead opened a small earth hole right under Li Meng’s feet. The hole was not large, perfectly round, similar in size to the tree hollow, and the mouse in the green vest popped its head out from the earth hole, startling the Little Witch, who screamed and leapt away in fright.

After recovering, Li Meng also blushed at her overreaction.

After climbing out of the small earth hole, Ding Dong Ear did not let up on the Little Witch, but instead, with its paws akimbo and tail swishing, it laughed sharply several times, full of mocking intent.

This action made the already embarrassed Little Witch even more angry and frustrated. She threw her plush bear to the ground, pointed her finger, and screamed, ”Li Neng! Smack it!”

The plush bear got up from the ground, twisted its neck, shook its fluffy body, and pounced on the little mouse with a ferocious roar. Ding Dong Ear, not to be outdone, whipped out a thin wooden stick from somewhere, jumped around with its tail swishing, and struck at the plush bear vigorously.

Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu looked at each other speechlessly and couldn’t help but laugh together.

But they didn’t immediately stop the fight between the plush bear and the blue-vested mouse. They were both adult wizards, and in their eyes, the bear and mouse skirmish was merely child’s play, harmless so long as it didn’t cause any trouble.

Moreover, while Li Meng and the mice were distracted, it was a good opportunity for them to discuss a slightly more serious matter—such as how to handle the Faceless Monster.

”Should we report this to the School Works Committee’s patrol team? They handle these matters a bit more professionally,” the young cost student suggested quietly, standing beside the witch.

This suggestion was standard and sensible, especially since Zheng Qing had been on duty with the patrol team every week last semester, knew everything about their operations inside out, and could ensure that his message, once reported, would not be shelved.

”Not so fast,” compared to him, the witch clearly had thought about it more: ”We haven’t confirmed this message yet, reporting it directly might not be more efficient than searching ourselves... and moreover, I want to catch that guy myself.”

Hearing this response, Zheng Qing immediately fell silent.

Jiang Yu’s obsession with catching the murderer who killed Xiao Bai the cat was clear to him, and it wasn’t appropriate for him to stop her here. Besides, according to the observations from the mice in green vests, the Faceless Monster was sneaky and didn’t seem very powerful; even if Jiang Yu hadn’t mentioned it, Zheng Qing had been considering letting his own Hunting team form a plan to practice a bit.

However, when the words ’Xiao Bai the cat,’ ’Jiang Yu,’ and ’obsession’ drifted through Zheng Qing’s mind, he couldn’t help but think of that daring Xiao Bai cat from his own cat group who dared to kick him.

Then he couldn’t help but glance down at Jiang Yu’s feet.

Perhaps because they had just shared a laugh together, the subtle estrangement that had arisen due to ’Su Shijun’ seemed to have dissipated a lot, and they no longer felt as unfamiliar as they did at the start of the school term. Naturally, the distance between them had also gotten a bit closer.

Thus, Zheng Qing saw the white shoes Jiang Yu was wearing.

Very pretty, very clean pair of white shoes, just like the paws of that Xiao Bai cat.

No sooner had this thought occurred to Zheng Qing than he immediately looked up in horror, trying to shift his gaze away—but some thoughts aren’t so easily dismissed by not seeing them. Even though he looked away, the image of those white shoes and Xiao Bai’s paws repeatedly overlapped in his mind, making him want to pluck his own brain out and wash it with water.

Jiang Yu, of course, had no idea about the complex and fickle thoughts in the warlock’s mind next to her; after discussing the general handling principles, she turned her attention back to the mice and the plush bear.

At this moment, the battle between the plush bear and Dangdang Ears had temporarily come to a stop, with the aftermath of their pecking at each other being that they both lay collapsed in the mud, gasping for breath, unable to get up.

Dangdang Ears’ green vest had several tears pulled into it by the plush bear; on the plush bear, Li Neng, many patches of fur were plucked by Mouse King, scattering on the ground.

Li Meng was jumping up and down, shouting beside them, trying to boost her plush bear’s morale.

But Li Neng remained dead bear-like, and even the little witch’s threats of not bathing him or cuddling him to sleep after returning couldn’t make the weary toy bear get back up.

Watching from the side, Jiang Yu suddenly furrowed her brow, recalling a question she had just overlooked.

”Almost forgot,” she said, tilting her head and looking at the young cost student, curiously asked, ”It’s still the question Meng Meng asked just now. It was forgotten because of their interruption... Why did these two Little Guys in Blue, instead of enjoying their leisure after vacation, go catch bugs?”
