Chapter 1007: Chapter 69 The So-Called ’Seed

Zheng Qing held that small cup of tea, sipping it for an hour.

He definitely didn’t dare let Su Ya brew him a second cup. Who knew what other trouble she might cause. He just wanted to quietly shrink into a corner alone, waiting for the Miss Su Family’s summons.

But even this small wish, Su Ya refused to grant him.

Every two minutes, the little fox lady would politely ask if he wanted more tea, if he wanted fruit, if he wanted some snacks, if he wanted a warm towel, if he wanted to bathe and change clothes, if he wanted her to find him a little girl who sang or a young man who performed magic—so on and so forth, endlessly.

With the miserable experience of the first cup of tea, Zheng Qing declined all subsequent offers—he also couldn’t understand why, as a wizard, he would want to watch someone else perform magic.

It was an hour later when Su Shijun returned to Greenhill Mansion.

Zheng Qing stood up, releasing a heavy sigh, feeling the urge to cry tears of relief.

”You’re back!”

Maybe it was the overly rich emotion in his voice that scared Su Shijun into standing at the doorway, hesitant to come in for quite a while.

One of her feet was suspended mid-air as she carefully scrutinized the young warlock, and only after confirming that he was merely a bit emotional and nothing else was amiss, did she finally ease her mind, set her foot down on the floor, and walked into the living room.

”What’s going on?” Su Shijun adjusted her charm-reducing glasses and sized up Zheng Qing. ”You look like someone conned you out of a few hundred jade coins... Su Ya, bring me a cup of green tea.”

As she spoke, her gaze swept over Zheng Qing’s nearly empty teacup and she added, ”Make that two, bring one for him as well.”

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but let out a burp.

The little fox lady, who had been standing by with glee, cheerfully responded and did not run off in a puff of smoke as usual but instead briskly trotted to the tea room, following the proper etiquette of a maid.

”I only drank one cup of tea,” the young scholarship student emphasized to the mistress of Greenhill Mansion.

”Hmm... that means you’re not thirsty.” Su Shijun didn’t grasp the deeper meaning behind Zheng Qing’s words, but simply replied accordingly in a perfunctory manner.

Zheng Qing was left speechless and choking back words.

Since there were no outsiders, Su Shijun was very relaxed, slumping onto a couch without any concern for her image, snacking on some fruit and a few pastries, until she finally noticed someone in the room was staring at her expectantly.

Su Shijun adjusted the red-rimmed large glasses on her face and somewhat straightened up, clearing her throat softly, ”Well, you know why I called you over, right?”

Zheng Qing’s mouth twitched.

He didn’t know, no one had mentioned anything, and besides, it wasn’t a ’call,’ but more like being pulled over through space.

He honestly shook his head, ”Not sure.”

Su Shijun let out a deep sigh.

”You are now a member of the Great Arcana, so you need to be aware of risks,” she said, weighing a grape between her fingers. Without seeing her cast a spell or make any other motion, the grape’s skin fluttered and peeled away on its own, revealing the sparkling clear flesh within. Incidentally, two grape seeds, squeezed out of the fruit, also fell onto the fruit plate on the coffee table.

”Is it dangerous to be a Great Arcana?” Zheng Qing suddenly remembered the resentful challenge from a professor at the beginning of the year and said apprehensively, ”Is it about Professor Trudeau challenging me to a duel? Can I forfeit... or can I give up the title of the Great Arcana?”

Apart from making him more noticeable and attracting a host of troubles, that damned title seemed to have no other use—The Merlin Medal had a fixed summoning curse on it and was a powerful amulet; the title of cost student came with a scholarship of ten jade coins each academic year. These were tangible benefits.

In comparison, the title of the ’World’ Great Arcana appeared far too ’tenuous.’

It wasn’t hard to understand why Zheng Qing would want to give it up.

Upon hearing this, Su Shijun gave him a look, ”How novel... you’re too naive. You don’t have to worry about Trudeau; he’s no trouble, just had a few too many sips of cat’s pee and his brain short-circuited. The school has already stopped his unethical demands for you.”

Zheng Qing felt a small patch of the gloom overshadowing his heart dissipate.

This matter was like a small thorn in his heart, one that stuck and bothered him when he went home for the New Year. Each time he remembered it, it filled him with worry, and he dreamt several times during naps that he was being hung up and beaten by a wizard whose face he couldn’t see, crying out in distress while a large crowd of onlookers laughed heartily.

”If not him, what other dangers are there!” His tone much lighter now as the pressure eased, Zheng Qing asked, ”Or is it that the school requires the Great Arcana to submit a paper every year? I definitely couldn’t do that.”

The witch pondered silently with a grape between her fingertips as if she had finally made up her mind.

”This issue is a bit complicated... I might as well start from the beginning,” Su Shijun said quietly, looking at Zheng Qing, ”Do you remember when I first explained to you about Poseidon’s origins?”

The young cost student felt as if there were suddenly many little thorns or pebbles on the chair, making it uncomfortable to sit on from any angle. He shifted in his seat and grunted heavily through his nose, ”I remember you said, Poseidon is a Witch Embryo condensed from your discarded part of your bloodline, right?”

Su Shijun nodded.

”I also said that when you encountered me, I had already made complete preparations, except for a little ’seed,’” Su Shijun, discussing this topic, didn’t show the slightest bit of embarrassment on her face; instead, she seemed extremely serious. Still, this did not help Zheng Qing’s cluttered mind settle down.

”Yes, that’s right,” he murmured in agreement.

In fact, from the very beginning—ever since their last discussion on this subject—he had been very eager to ask Su Daxu about the nature of that so-called ’seed.’

But the question was so awkward that it was difficult to ask.

”I think you’ve always wanted to know about the ’seed’ I got from you, haven’t you?” Even though Su Shijun maintained a steady composure, the repeated mentioning of these details still caused a blush to emerge on her face unavoidably.

Zheng Qing’s eyes glanced at a peeled pomegranate on the table, his head giving an almost imperceptible nod, then quickly returned to its original position.

”That ’seed’ is a strand of ’essence’ from you,” Su Shijun’s answer greatly relieved Zheng Qing, but for some reason, there was an obscure and indefinable sense of regret.

To shake off this odd feeling, he lifted his arm and exaggeratedly sniffed at his own scent, then jokingly said to Su Shijun, ”My essence has effects like that? Then those Sprites living with me are in great danger!”

The joke was slightly vulgar and before he could finish, the young cost student immediately regretted it.
