Chapter 1005: Chapter 67: The Disappeared Warlock

The first onslaught on Beta Town ended as anticlimactically as it had begun.

Su Shijun came in a hurry and left in a hurry as well.

She left behind four spells, and a scene of devastation.

Apart from bowing her head slightly and casting a glance at the young state-funded student when she left, she didn’t make any more gestures. Her feet didn’t even touch the floor of the small square.

This caused the hunters who participated in the battle to fight even harder out of frustration, venting their inner rage on the invaders.

Because of the suppression by the Big Wizard, the magical creatures were easily routed, which made the subsequent battles for the wizards incredibly easy, it would not be an overstatement to describe it as cleaning up trash.

The hunters only needed to drag ropes and cages, stuffing the magical creatures of various sizes softened on the battlefield into them, and then they could go to the temporary settlement point specially set up by the Beta Town Management Committee to claim their rewards.

Zheng Qing led his team in dragging a few prey before hastily retreating from the battlefield.

This greatly disappointed Zhang Ji Xin and Lin Guo.

”I think with Xin Fat Man’s help, we could have definitely tried to take on that biggest Chisel Tooth,” Elder Zhang Da complained with lingering frustration, while picking up the hemp rope in his hand, he tugged at the corner of his mouth, ”Instead of this kind of rabbit!”

Hanging from the hemp rope in his hand was a little white rabbit by its ears.

However, this rabbit had a sharp bird’s beak, a pair of keen eagle eyes, and a thin snake’s tail slithering on the ground.

When Zhang Ji Xin lifted it up to face him, the ’rabbit’ seemed to think it was time to resist; its hind legs kicked frantically at the air, and its long, round eyes stared out, while it also made an intimidating noise from its mouth.

The Elder disdainfully gave it a flick on its forehead, knocking the freshly invigorated little creature back into unconsciousness.

”What you have there is not a rabbit, but an armadillo,” Zheng Qing dismissively addressed Zhang Ji Xin’s complaint, analyzing solemnly, ”The danger level of magical creatures has never been distinguished by size. For example, the tiny Sand Time Worm can suck dry the time of even the largest and most dangerous Giant Dragon... I thought it was an obvious fact you’d be well aware of, coming from a wizarding family.”

Armadillos are an uncommon magic animal, often living in dense forests with goji berries, nanmu, and vitex trees. They resemble rabbits with a bird’s beak, eagle eyes, snake tail, and like to feed on termites. They’re timid creatures that play dead at a wizard’s attack—but this does not mean they are safe.

In fact, armadillos are one of the few kinds of magical creatures possessing capabilities for mass destruction. They can command hundreds of thousands of poisonous insects to cause immense damage over a vast area.

If it were not winter now, with many insects in a forced state of hibernation, the Absolution Hunting Team would definitely not have caught these ’little white rabbits’ so easily—of course, this success would not have been possible without on-site guidance from Doctor Xiao.

Upon hearing Zheng Qing’s assessment, Zhang Ji Xin’s face visibly turned a shade of purple with frustration.

Surprisingly, he didn’t retort.

But that didn’t mean Zheng Qing had convinced everyone.

”I think the Elder is right,” Lin Guo was another team member who protested against Zheng Qing’s arrangement, ”I haven’t thrown a single spell listed in my law book yet! And my tools...”

As he spoke, he picked up his small backpack from a goat’s horn, unzipped it, and emphasized, ”...My alchemy device can definitely help you catch a Mad Hunt!”

The exterior of the little backpack writhed, as the mouse inside leaped crazily, agreeing vehemently with its owner’s argument.

”Yeah, yeah, I also think you can do it,” Zheng Qing placated, shoving the little rabbit into the hands of the little warlock, ”Meh, if it doesn’t quench your thirst for challenge, you can slam a few more spells on it. It won’t mind.”

Lin Guo stared at his team captain in shock; it seemed he hadn’t expected Zheng Qing to suggest such a thing.

The other members of the hunting team also hissed disapprovingly from the sidelines.

”Boom!!!!”

A massive explosion interrupted the infighting of the Absolution Hunting Team, and everyone turned their heads to look toward the source of the noise.

It was a Poisonous Horn Beast.

This large magical creature, grey all over, resembling a rhinoceros, and originally from Africa, had a sharp horn on its snout. Contained within this horn was a miraculous liquid; anything injected with it would explode violently.

The mishap with the Poisonous Horn Beast was due to the hunter’s poor management; they had neglected to fit a Dragon Skin Cover over its horn. When Su Shijun left and the beast regained its strength, it immediately lowered its head and fiercely rammed its horn into the blue stone floor, injecting the poisonous liquid from its horn into the stone.

The blue stone slab then exploded violently, covering the wizards escorting it in dust and grime, and two who were standing beside its head were even knocked out by the blast.

Fortunately, the wizards escorting the beast hadn’t made any other mistakes—such as shackling the feet of the one-and-a-half-ton giant with iron chains or covering it in a ’Strength Weakening’ magic net that restricted the flow of magical power.

These measures meant that the resistance of the Poisonous Horn Beast came to a miserable end as soon as it began.

The wizards, having come to their senses, brandished their thick Dragon Tail Whips and ferociously lashed the creature. In the end, they didn’t forget to reapply an explosion-proof cover to its horn.

”If I were the hunter escorting it, I definitely wouldn’t have made such a rookie mistake,” Zhang Ji Xin said longingly as he watched the staggering Poisonous Horn Beast, sighing softly.

The ’rabbit’ in his hand kicked its legs hard again as if to tell him it hadn’t given up the fight.

”Lucky that,” Xin Fat Man sighed as well, a hint of envy in his tone, ”That Poisonous Horn Beast could fetch quite a few jade coins from Beta Town.”

”Depending on age and weight, the bounty could range from thirty to thirty-five jade coins... If it’s a female Poisonous Horn Beast, the price might be even higher,” Xiao Xiao chimed in at the right moment. ”As everyone knows, the venom of females is more potent, and they can also nurture offspring, making them of relatively higher value to wizards.”

Hearing this, everyone couldn’t help but sigh heavily again.

”So, Captain, why do we... damn it!” Zhang Ji Xin turned back, about to complain to Zheng Qing again, when he suddenly realized the young state-sponsored student was nowhere to be seen, and couldn’t help but curse, ”Where is he? Such a big warlock... he was just here, right?”

The members of the Absolution Hunting Team all turned around, then stared in bewilderment.

Where Zheng Qing had just been standing was now emptiness, with not a soul in sight; the cold wind swept through, cleaning the dust from the ground, eradicating even the last trace of his presence.

”Maybe, the captain felt guilty, so he retreated first?” Lin Guo guessed as such.
