The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 150: Chapter 150: You Can Cheat My Feelings, But You Can’t Cheat My Money

Xu Yingying immediately hid behind Han Xiaorui, her body trembling slightly.

Han Xiaorui froze, following Xu Yingying’s gaze to a spot not far away. Her brow furrowed slightly.

It turned out the neighbor’s son-in-law had come for a visit.

She’d heard the son-in-law was a Chinese-American, though he was sixteen or seventeen years older than the neighbor’s daughter.

”Miss Xu, what’s wrong? You don’t have to worry. You’re safe here.”

Xu Yingying didn’t say anything. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself down.

After a moment’s thought, Xu Yingying asked, ”Do you know the man who just went next door?”

Han Xiaorui answered, ”I do. He’s Uncle Zhao’s son-in-law from next door. I heard he’s a Chinese-American and quite rich.”

”What’s his name?” Xu Yingying asked, her voice still trembling a little.

Han Xiaorui scratched her forehead. ”I’ve only heard his surname is Wen. I don’t know his full name. We don’t see them much, so we’re not familiar. Miss Xu, you’re from the United States, too. Do you know him?”

’It looks like she does.’

”Know him?” Xu Yingying’s eyes filled with scorn, and tears welled up. ”That’s my husband, Wen Tao.”

”Huh?” Han Xiaorui was floored, unable to believe it. ”Your husband? You mean he’s cheating?”

Xu Yingying tilted her head back, forcing her tears to recede. ”And to think I’d find out my husband was cheating on me like this, completely blindsided!”

”The woman Wen Tao was holding just now must be the woman he’s having an affair with. And those two kids next to them, seven or eight years old... are they theirs?”

Han Xiaorui blinked, worried she might say the wrong thing and hurt Xu Yingying. ”The woman’s name is Zhao Fang. One of the children, Wen Chang, is eight, and the other, Wen Cheng, is seven. You’ve only been back in Hua Country for three years. How could he have kids that old?”

Xu Yingying’s face was blank. ”If this Zhao Fang has never left the country, then Wen Tao must have used his business trips to Asia to come to Hua Country and start a family here.”

”He always said it didn’t matter that I couldn’t have children. He claimed he didn’t care, that he was perfectly happy just being with me. But after seeing his smile just now, I’m certain it was all a lie.”

Han Xiaorui was at a loss. ”Well...”

”Maybe it’s because I’m not good enough, because I can’t have children, that he cheated on me,” Xu Yingying said, a bitter look in her eyes.

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui was incensed. She did not see it that way at all.

”Miss Xu, your husband cheated. Isn’t that his fault? You’re not the one at fault!”

”If you weren’t good enough for him, he could have asked for a divorce, ended the marriage, and gone your separate ways. That would have at least shown he had some character.”

”If he wanted children and you couldn’t have them, you could have adopted. Surrogacy is legal in the United States, so you could have had a child through a surrogate. Therefore, not being able to have children shouldn’t have been an obstacle.”

”So please don’t punish yourself for someone else’s mistake. Besides, before anything else, you are a person first and foremost! If there’s truly a physical reason, then all we can say is that when God closes a door, he opens a window. Don’t worry.”

The tears that had been about to fall from Xu Yingying’s eyes miraculously receded after she heard Han Xiaorui’s words.

’That’s right. He was the one who cheated, not me.’

’Besides, I stressed several times that if my husband wanted children of his own, we could get a divorce or we could adopt. I was open to any option.’

’I even had a full check-up, and there was nothing wrong. My uterus, fallopian tubes, everything was perfectly healthy.’

’So my inability to get pregnant couldn’t be blamed on me.’

’It was highly likely that Wen Tao was the one who didn’t want to have children with me!’

At this thought, Xu Yingying had already calmed down. She blinked and looked at Han Xiaorui. ”I have to say, you’re very good at consoling people. Xiao Rui, you’re very smart.”

”I’m just telling it like it is,” Han Xiaorui replied. ”I even gave my ex-husband twin daughters, and we still got divorced, didn’t we? So not having kids is no excuse for a man to cheat. My ex-husband remarried, but he had an affair with a foreign woman while his new wife was pregnant. Now they’re in the middle of a divorce. It just goes to show a leopard can’t change its spots.”

”As for me, it’s not that I’m smart; I just have firsthand experience and I’ve seen a lot. But I’ve always believed that I am Han Xiaorui first, and a mother second. If you have the means, love yourself more. If you don’t have the means, create them so you can.”

”What’s done is done, so now you have to deal with it. If you still love him, then figure out how to win him back. If you can’t accept this, then make a clean break and divorce him quickly.”

”One last thing. I may be younger than you, but I’ve already been through a divorce. I’ve always believed this: you can play with my feelings—after all, who doesn’t run into a scumbag when they’re young? You can play with my feelings, but you cannot scam me out of my money.”

”Haha.” Han Xiaorui made Xu Yingying laugh. ”A cheating man is like spoiled leftovers. If you don’t throw him in the trash, are you saving him for the New Year?”

Han Xiaorui’s big eyes sparkled, and a smile played on her lips as she gave Xu Yingying a thumbs-up. ”Exactly! You’re absolutely right, Miss Xu. There are plenty of other men out there. Time to move on.”

”Out with the old, in with the new. Look at me. If I hadn’t divorced that scumbag Yang Jianming, would I have met a good man like Ye Feng?”

Xu Yingying looked at Han Xiaorui’s delicate features, her radiant face, and her incredible confidence and composure, and found herself liking the younger woman even more.

With such a forthright and cheerful personality, it was no wonder she’d immediately changed her attitude after their first meeting and tried to accept Han Xiaorui dating her nephew, Ye Feng.

”If Ye Feng ever betrayed your relationship, what would you do?”

Han Xiaorui raised an eyebrow, her tone matter-of-fact. ”If we weren’t married, we’d break up. There are plenty of other fish in the sea; no sense in getting hung up on one tree.”

”If we were married, I’d divorce him as quickly as possible. In short, I can accept a partner who’s been married before or has had past relationships. But once he’s with me, I have to be the only one.”

”My philosophy on dating is that I can have many relationships with different people—just not at the same time. I end one before I choose the next person and start something new. I won’t stop in my tracks and waste my time being heartbroken over a man who isn’t worth it.”

Xu Yingying was dumbfounded. She had lived in the West for over a decade and prided herself on understanding its liberal values, but it seemed her mindset wasn’t nearly as open-minded and free as Han Xiaorui’s.

”So... what if he refused to divorce and threatened to kill himself?” Xu Yingying asked, her eyes full of curiosity, eager to hear Han Xiaorui’s take.

Han Xiaorui howled with laughter. ”Haha, even better! I’d be an instant widow and inherit all his assets.”

”Huh?” Xu Yingying froze. Even though she knew Han Xiaorui was joking, a strange panic welled up inside her. She had a feeling that Han Xiaorui wasn’t just kidding.

’I have to talk to my nephew, Ye Feng, when I get back. I need to tell him to cherish his relationship with Han Xiaorui.’

’He can’t let his mind—or his actions—stray. Not even for a moment.’
