The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Ye Feng Is Injured

Han Xiaoqing was also very happy. She felt like a gardener whose carefully nurtured sapling had finally sprouted leaves.

From now on, as long as she cared for it patiently, it would one day blossom and bear fruit.

The winds had been light for the past few days, and the weather was wonderful.

Han Xiaorui and Liang Xiaoyu went fishing every day, returning with a full load each time.

Today’s shrimp weren’t lobsters, but tiger prawns.

The palm-sized tiger prawns were a delightful sight, their meat exceptionally succulent and plentiful.

Liang Xiaoyu exclaimed, ”Xiao Rui, we’re in for a treat today.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Of course. The kids all love shrimp.”

Just as she said that, Han Xiaorui spotted another underwater reconnaissance device.

She did a quick calculation. At full speed, it would take their fishing boat two hours to get to the county pier from here.

So, after pulling in the shrimp traps, she immediately cast her fishing nets. Only after hauling in a few nets of fish did she retrieve the device.

Liang Xiaoyu was surprised. ”Xiao Rui, there’s a foreign language on this. Was it deployed by another country again?”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Probably. Let’s just grab it for now.”

Liang Xiaoyu covered the device with a burlap sack to protect it from the sun.

The rest of the trip was smooth, and by the time they reached the county pier, no one had come after them.

Liang Xiaoyu watched over the sale of their catch while Han Xiaorui went to make a phone call.

Zhou Yang answered the call, not Ye Feng. ”Ms. Han, I’ll head over right away.”

After hanging up, Han Xiaorui frowned slightly. ’Is Ye Feng avoiding me?’

”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, let’s keep a bucket of the tiger prawns for ourselves. We also need to give some to Sister Cuicui.” Han Xiaorui couldn’t figure it out, so she decided not to dwell on it.

Boss Zhang watched the lively, jumping shrimp, his heart aching at the loss.

However, he knew Han Xiaorui loved to eat them, and even if he talked himself blue in the face, she wouldn’t sell that bucket of tiger prawns.

This boatload sold for another 18,600 yuan.

By the time they finished cleaning the fishing boat, Zhou Yang had driven over, bringing another man with him whom they hadn’t seen before.

When Han Xiaorui didn’t see Ye Feng, she grew even more suspicious that he was avoiding her.

’Hmph, if he wants to hide, then let him!’

’I won’t go looking for Ye Feng anymore. I don’t want to be a bother.’

Liang Xiaoyu saw the flash of disappointment in Han Xiaorui’s eyes, mixed with a hint of proud stubbornness.

As a good sister and crewmate, she could ask the questions Han Xiaorui was in no position to. ”Zhou Yang, how come we don’t see Mr. Ye? Is he on a business trip?”

Zhou Yang sighed. ”Director Ye was injured and hospitalized. He only woke up yesterday.”

Han Xiaorui, who had been puffing her cheeks in anger, was stunned by Zhou Yang’s words. ”Injured? Hospitalized? When did this happen?”

Zhou Yang replied, ”The same day you called our office.”

”Huh?” Han Xiaorui was dumbfounded. So Ye Feng hadn’t stood her up; he’d been injured and hospitalized. ”How did he get hurt?”

Zhou Yang answered, ”Director Ye spotted a fugitive. During the arrest, the suspect took a hostage, and Director Ye was hit by a car and sent flying while saving a child.”

When Han Xiaorui heard this, her heart felt like it had been seized in a fist. ”Zhou Yang, which hospital is Ye Feng in?”

Zhou Yang replied, ”City First Hospital.”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui turned to Liang Xiaoyu and said, ”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, leave the boat here. You take the shrimp and fish we kept back with you.”

Seeing this, Boss Zhang said, ”Xiao Han, if you’re comfortable with it, I can have Xiao Liu take Sister Xiao Yu back on the boat.”

”Thank you so much, Boss Zhang, and Mr. Liu,” Han Xiaorui said gratefully. ”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, when you get back, please tell my sister I’m going to the hospital to visit Ye Feng.”

With that said, Han Xiaorui got into Zhou Yang’s car to head to the city.

Zhou Yang dropped off the item and drove Han Xiaorui to the hospital.

Ye Feng had woken up yesterday and was out of danger, but he was lying in bed with a pale face.

He wanted a sip of water, but the nurse wasn’t there.

Han Xiaorui looked inside through the glass window of the hospital room, and her nose tingled with the urge to cry.

She hurried in and poured Ye Feng a glass of water. ”You’re in the hospital. Is there no one here to take care of you?”

Ye Feng was surprised to see Han Xiaorui, but a smile soon bloomed on his face. ”Someone is here. Xiao Gu just went to the restroom.”

Han Xiaorui’s heart ached a little. ’He’s injured and in the hospital with only a colleague to look after him. This Ye Feng is quite pitiful.’ ”I’ll go get you some hot water.”

After Han Xiaorui left, Ye Feng looked at Zhou Yang.

Zhou Yang, thinking Director Ye was angry, quickly explained, ”Director Ye, Ms. Han asked me. I didn’t bring it up myself.”

Ye Feng gave a faint smile. ”From now on, you can tell Xiao Rui about my affairs.”

Zhou Yang let out a long sigh of relief and smiled. ”Director Ye, Ms. Han found another reconnaissance device today. I’m going to head back and deal with it first. I’ll come see you again later.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Alright, go on. Someone’s here with me, so don’t worry.”

By the time Han Xiaorui returned with the hot water, Zhou Yang had already left.

”Zhou Yang already left?” Han Xiaorui asked. ”Are you able to eat yet?”

”Zhou Yang had to get back to work. I can start eating tomorrow,” Ye Feng replied, watching Han Xiaorui with a faint smile. ”Don’t worry about me, I’m fine. I’m sorry for standing you up the other day. I only woke up yesterday, so I must have made you worry.”

Han Xiaorui felt a little guilty. She hadn’t been worried at all—in fact, she’d been silently blaming and suspecting him. ”It’s good that you’re okay. I’ll head back after your colleague gets here. I’ll bring you some congee tomorrow.”

”Thank you,” Ye Feng said with a smile, his face pale. ”Did you come to the hospital to see me right after coming back from sea, without even going home first?”

Only then did Han Xiaorui notice she was still wearing her bulky clothes from the boat and smelled of sweat and fish. She gave an embarrassed laugh. ”I heard from Zhou Yang that you were hurt, so I came straight over. I must be a sight. Sorry to let you see me like this.”

”You look great!” Ye Feng chuckled. ’You look great no matter what!’

He had seen her at her most disheveled, seen her at her fiercest, and even seen her reigning over the open sea like a queen...

No matter which side she showed, it was always so full of life!

’This is how life should be, brimming with vitality!’

Han Xiaorui grinned, revealing a set of neat, white teeth. ”Even though I didn’t see it myself, you must have looked so handsome while you were bravely saving that person!”

Ye Feng’s faint smile turned into a wide grin, but it must have been too big, because it pulled at his injury, causing him to hiss in pain.

”Alright, stop smiling,” Han Xiaorui chided. ”Take care of yourself!”

Just then, a few people entered from outside. An elderly woman choked back sobs, ”Xiao Feng, how are you? Your mother only has you. You can’t let anything happen to you!”

The old woman pushed her way to Ye Feng’s bedside, weeping.

Han Xiaorui carefully observed the woman who had come in. She was wearing a loose, deep purple qipao, and her silver hair was coiled into a hair bun held in place by a hairpin.

Following her were a silver-haired old man and a beautiful, middle-aged woman in her forties who was well-maintained, graceful, and elegant.

”Grandma, I’m fine, don’t worry.” Seeing his grandmother crying so hard, Ye Feng’s pale face showed a helpless expression.

’My grandma cries at the drop of a hat!’

Old Xu also looked at his grandson with deep concern. ”Xiao Feng is out of danger now. Don’t touch him, you might jostle his wounds.”

Standing to the side, Xu Yingying glanced at her nephew, then at Han Xiaorui, who had been pushed aside. Catching a fishy smell, she said, ”You’re his caregiver? Why is your hygiene so poor?”
