The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Rise of Murderous Intent

Leader Cai readily agreed with a smile. ”Yes, Leader.”

The one whose spot was stolen was a girl named Han Xiaoqing.

Ye Feng was standing up for her because of her older sister, Han Xiaorui.

During their recent conversation, Ye Feng had mentioned Han Xiaorui many times.

Perhaps Ye Feng had finally taken the hint!

Meanwhile, today was also Han Xiaoyuan’s wedding day.

When Han Xiaorui saw the wedding supplies her parents brought out, she realized they had secretly bought a complete set again.

It seemed her mother wasn’t broke, but rather wanted to squeeze every last penny out of her and Han Xiaoqing.

Waiting for news from Shencheng, Han Xiaorui was on pins and needles. She was also afraid that going to the county town to make a phone call would be discovered by her family.

Lately, Han Xiaoqing had been constantly absent-minded, often lost in a daze.

She would either add too much salt while cooking or break a bowl while washing dishes, which made Wang Cuilan fly into a rage and curse her out.

In the past, Han Xiaoqing would have talked back, but now she just kept her head down without a word, the hatred in her heart festering.

On her son’s wedding day, worried that Han Xiaoqing would cause trouble, Wang Cuilan assigned her to watch the children.

Pingping and An’an were forbidden from entering the newlyweds’ room. Only boys were allowed, as a superstition to ensure her son Han Xiaoyuan and Wang Hongyu would have a son after they married.

After a bustling day, night fell.

Han Xiaorui decided to go to the county town again tomorrow to make a call, under the pretext of buying tickets.

But she didn’t know that danger was approaching once again.

Teacher Zhou, from Yangkai High School’s graduating senior class, was delighted to run into two of her students who had gotten into good universities at the mall.

She mentioned it while chatting with a colleague in the office, her voice filled with happiness and relief.

Teacher Zhou was determined to make a final push over the next month or so, hoping to cultivate more talent for the country.

The words were spoken without intention, but the listener read into them.

Director Li, who had conspired to intercept Han Xiaoqing’s acceptance letter, broke out in a cold sweat.

Teacher Zhou was so fond of the two sisters, Han Xiaoqing and Han Xiaorui, that she was bound to ask about their university situation.

’Perhaps Han Xiaoqing already knows her spot was stolen.’

Director Li forgot all about his work at the school, not even bothering to ask for leave, and rode his bicycle straight to Vice Director Xu’s office.

”Old Li, what brings you here? Something wrong?” Vice Director Xu was in high spirits, having learned through internal channels that he would soon be dropping the ”Vice” from his title.

However, the matter hadn’t been officially announced yet, so he could only celebrate inwardly, not daring to speak of it.

Director Li had no time for pleasantries. He quickly shut the door, walked up to Vice Director Xu, and said in a low voice, ”Today, Teacher Zhou from the school ran into Han Xiaoqing and Han Xiaorui...”

The moment Vice Director Xu heard this, his heart leaped into his throat. If this blew up, he wouldn’t just lose his position—he would very likely end up in prison.

No matter what, they couldn’t let Han Xiaoqing cause a scene.

”Every extra person who knows adds to the risk. Old Li, you handled this matter from the beginning, so you need to be the one to deal with it.”

Director Li felt bitter and anxious, but he knew Vice Director Xu was right.

’If this gets exposed, it’ll be too late for me!’

”Han Xiaoqing’s parents took the money back then, so now they have to make Han Xiaoqing shut her mouth,” Director Li said through gritted teeth. ”But I’m worried that if I go see them this time, they’ll demand an exorbitant sum.”

Vice Director Xu froze. They had already spent several thousand yuan last time. If they went back again, that greedy, black-hearted couple from the Han Family would certainly not pass up a juicy piece of meat right under their noses.

”Here’s what you do. Find some people to watch the area around Han Family Village. As soon as you see Han Xiaoqing come out, throw a sack over her and snatch her... Got it?”

Director Li’s heart skipped a beat, and his legs trembled with fear. ”Murder is a capital offense.”

”Only the dead can keep a secret forever.” Vice Director Xu narrowed his eyes, a chilling light in them. ”Once this is done, we’ll be in the same boat. And when the time comes, I’ll make you the principal of Yangkai High School.”

He and his brother-in-law were both on the verge of promotion; there could be absolutely no mistakes.

Director Li, who had been hesitant, gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and said, ”He who is not ruthless is not a true man!”

Director Li wore a mask and even put on makeup. He found some hooligans, gave them cash, and told them to do the job.

These hooligans were dirt-poor. The moment they saw the money, they were more than happy to do it. Besides, they enjoyed harassing young women in their spare time anyway.

This time, they could even get paid for it, so of course they didn’t want to miss such a good opportunity.

And so, these three young hooligans came to Han Family Village and started loitering around Han Xiaoyuan’s house.

Seeing her listless second daughter irritated Wang Cuilan. ”There are weeds in the rice paddy. Go pull them. I’ve been run ragged with all the wedding preparations these past few days.”

Han Xiaoqing ignored her, her mind still on reporting the crime. ”Sis, when are we going to buy the tickets?”

Han Xiaorui understood the hidden meaning. ”Tomorrow.”

”Okay, I’ll go with you.” Han Xiaoqing didn’t want to stay in this house a moment longer.

Wang Cuilan was not pleased. ”Your sister can go buy the tickets by herself. You stay home and work. I’ll watch the kids.”

”If I let you watch the kids, Pingping and An’an probably wouldn’t even get enough to eat,” Han Xiaoqing retorted to Wang Cuilan. ”If Pingping and An’an lose weight, how is my sister supposed to explain that to her in-laws?”

Wang Cuilan pursed her lips, unconcerned. ”Little girls aren’t so precious. I’m telling you, Xiao Rui, you have to listen to me. After you go back, you need to have another baby right away—a son, preferably. That’s how you’ll secure your position with your in-laws.”

Han Xiaorui rolled her eyes. ”There’s a family planning policy now. We can’t have more.”

Wang Cuilan’s eyes darted around. ”You can’t have one over there, but you can have one here! When you get pregnant, just come back and hide at home. After the baby’s born, you can go back. At worst, you’ll just have to pay a fine. Your in-laws have money, what’s there to be afraid of?”

’If she comes here to carry the baby, of course she’ll have to give me money!’

”No, that’s not an option. It would affect my job and my future,” Han Xiaorui refused. ”Don’t try to persuade me.”

Wang Cuilan wouldn’t let it go. ”How about this? You leave Pingping and An’an here with me. I’ll hide them for a while and say they went missing. Then you can get pregnant and have another child, and it won’t violate the family planning policy, right?”

”HISS...” Han Xiaorui sucked in a sharp breath. ’How could she even think of such a wicked idea?’

’Is she obsessed with having a grandson to the point of madness?’

’Wang Cuilan hasn’t lived through the apocalypse, so she doesn’t know how precious women become in the end times.

When all the women are gone and only men are left, life can’t continue.

Humanity doesn’t need another species to wipe them out; they can do it to themselves.’

”Don’t you ever say that again. Otherwise, I won’t give you another cent,” Han Xiaorui said, shocked and furious. She was now even more afraid to leave her children at home. ’Forget the luggage. I’m taking the kids and leaving first thing tomorrow.’

She would get her children to a safe place first, then deal with her sister’s impersonation case.

Wang Cuilan’s face turned red with frustration. She pointed a rough, trembling hand at her. ”You! If you don’t listen to your elders, you’ll suffer for it. The Yang Family is so rich. Once your husband has a son with someone else, you’ll be divorced. Don’t come crying to me then.”

Although the truth was similar to what Wang Cuilan guessed, she, Han Xiaorui, didn’t rely on a man to live. She could live very well on her own.

”That’s none of your business!” Han Xiaorui retorted, carrying her child back to her room to rest.

Early the next morning, to throw her family off, she didn’t even take her luggage. She took Grandpa Qing’s donkey cart from the village to the township to catch a bus to the county town.

The three hooligans who had taken the money to do the job followed close behind, sensing their chance had come!
