The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: This is My Girlfriend

Han Xiaorui was exasperated. She was being mistaken for a caregiver—and an unhygienic one at that.

Hearing Xu Yingying’s words, Old Xu and Mrs. Xu both turned to look at Han Xiaorui.

Han Xiaorui looked at Ye Feng. ’Let’s see how he introduces me!’

Ye Feng frowned slightly, looked at Xu Yingying, and said firmly, ”Auntie, this is my girlfriend.”

”Huh?” The three of them were dumbfounded.

Old Xu could now tell from Han Xiaorui’s attire that she was likely a girl from a fishing village.

Although she had nice features, she reeked of fish.

Mrs. Xu just frowned and said nothing.

Xu Yingying exclaimed dramatically, ”Oh my god! Ye Feng, don’t tell me you’ve fallen for a fishergirl?”

Ye Feng was getting angry. ”Well, I like Xiao Rui, and that’s that!”

Seeing this, Han Xiaorui walked around to the other side of the bed and comforted him softly, ”Ye Feng, don’t be angry. I’ll come see you again tomorrow and bring you something nice to eat.”

Ye Feng had just acknowledged her as his girlfriend in front of his relatives. How could Han Xiaorui possibly start a fight at his bedside just because others looked down on her?

Besides, so what if she was a fishergirl?

’As long as I don’t look down on myself, I don’t care what anyone else thinks!’

Ye Feng nodded and reached out to gently take her hand. He never thought the first time he’d acknowledge their relationship would be under circumstances like these.

”Okay, be careful on your way home.” A light returned to Ye Feng’s eyes. This was the Han Xiaorui he knew and loved.

’Always so confident. She never lets other people’s prejudices make her doubt herself.’

”Mhm!” Han Xiaorui gave a radiant smile. Today would count as the day they made their relationship official.

Ye Feng smiled too, the love and joy for his partner shining in his eyes.

Old Xu and Old Madam Xu exchanged complicated looks, their feelings hard to put into words.

Xu Yingying wanted to say more, but Old Madam Xu pulled her back, telling her to shut up.

Ye Feng was weak right now; they couldn’t agitate him, at least not at this moment.

Han Xiaorui glanced at Ye Feng, not sparing a single look for the Xus who disdained her.

’I’m no doormat. I’m not about to go out of my way to suck up to people who look down on me!’

’I can’t do it!’

Ye Feng watched Han Xiaorui’s proud demeanor and found it absolutely endearing.

Seeing her grandson’s gaze fixed on the doorway, still staring even after Han Xiaorui had disappeared, Xu Yingying snapped, ”Xiao Feng, that Little Fish Girl isn’t good enough for you.”

”Back then, I didn’t approve of your mother marrying your father, but she was dead set on being with him. Sigh... This time, you need to listen. People who aren’t right for each other can’t be happy together,” Old Madam Xu said earnestly, not wanting her grandson to repeat the same mistake.

Although Mr. Xu didn’t speak, he didn’t stop his wife either, which showed that he felt the same way.

Ye Feng didn’t get angry. This was his family, and this was just their way of showing they cared.

He was an adult and could look at the situation rationally.

”Auntie, Grandma, Grandpa, I understand your intentions are good. You looked down on my father because he came from a peasant background, but he was the one who arranged a way out for you all.”

”Even back then, when he was forced to sleep in cowsheds and subjected to criticism sessions, when they tried to make him divorce my mother, my father never agreed.”

”During the two years my mother was bedridden, I admit a woman took the opportunity to get close to my father. He might have been tempted then, but he remained faithful. He only remarried a short while after my mother passed away.”

”Before my mother died, she held my hand and told me not to fight with my dad. She said she never regretted being with him and never resented him.”

Old Madam Xu let out a choked sob, at a loss for words.

”If they hadn’t truly loved each other, my mother wouldn’t have given up the chance to leave with you. If my father hadn’t loved my mother, he might have divorced her long ago like so many others, and even abandoned me, his own son.”

”I don’t care what happens in the future. For now, at least, I want to be with the person my heart has chosen, the person I love.”

”You’re just as stubborn as my sister,” Xu Yingying said angrily. ”Fine, I’m not your mother, so I’m not going to bother with you anymore. Seeing as you still have the energy to talk about love, you must be fine. I’m leaving!”

With that, Xu Yingying left in a huff.

Old Madam Xu sighed. ”Xiao Feng, just focus on getting better. We can talk about this later.”

Ye Feng smiled. ”Grandma, don’t worry about me. I’m not confused, and I’m not just fooling around. You don’t know Xiao Rui. Once you get to know her, you’ll see how wonderful she is.”

Words failed Old Madam Xu, but she knew it wasn’t the right time to argue with Ye Feng.

Mr. Xu was more rational. He didn’t think his grandson was the type to act recklessly.

”That girl, Xiao Han... she rushed to the hospital without even changing her clothes. At the very least, it shows she cares about you, that she was too worried to even think about changing before coming to see you.”

Ye Feng smiled gently. ”Yes. She had just returned from sea. She found a surveillance device, heard from my colleague that I was injured, and came to see me immediately.”

If she didn’t have feelings for him, a young woman at an age where looks are so important would have certainly dressed up before visiting the hospital.

A doctor came in to check on Ye Feng and told him to get plenty of rest. Only then did Old Madam Xu and Mr. Xu take their leave.

While the Xus were left with complicated feelings, Han Xiaorui was simply relieved to hear that Ye Feng was out of danger.

After leaving the hospital room, Han Xiaorui didn’t leave right away. Instead, she found the doctor to ask what Ye Feng could and could not eat.

Han Xiaorui patiently took notes. The sea cucumber porridge she had at home would be perfect for helping Ye Feng recover.

When she got home, Liang Xiaoyu and Granny Cai were doing chores around her house.

Han Xiaoqing was playing ”house” with the children again, using a fishing rod to fish in the fish tank.

’Well, as long as they’re happy!’

Liang Xiaoyu saw Han Xiaorui return and hurriedly asked, ”Xiao Rui, how is Mr. Ye doing?”

Beaming and full of energy, Han Xiaorui replied, ”Ye Feng is out of danger. He broke two ribs, and one of them punctured his lung, but thankfully they treated him in time.

”He can talk today, and he’ll be able to eat tomorrow. I just asked the doctor, and he can have sea cucumber porridge. Sister Cai, can you teach me how to make it later? I want to bring some to Ye Feng.”

Granny Cai’s eyes lit up. ”Of course! Let’s get the sea cucumber out of the freezer to thaw now. I’ll teach you how to cook it. It’s the best thing for nourishing the body.”

”Thank you in advance, Sister Cai,” Han Xiaorui said with a smile. She used to think she was a decent cook, but compared to Granny Cai, she could see there was a huge gap.

That evening, Granny Cai carefully demonstrated the entire process for Han Xiaorui, from slicing the sea cucumber to simmering the porridge.

”In medicinal cuisine, sea cucumber porridge is made with sea cucumber and millet as the main ingredients. It’s simple to make, highly nutritious, and it’s good for the kidneys, replenishes vitality, and nourishes the blood...”

Sea cucumbers are low in cholesterol and relatively low in fat, making them an excellent choice for food therapy for patients with high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, hepatitis, and for the elderly. Eating it regularly is very beneficial for treating illnesses and strengthening the body.

Han Xiaorui wrote everything down in a notebook. Early the next morning, she got up, cooked the porridge, put it in an insulated container, and got a ride from Song Sixth into the city with Han Xiaoqing and her two daughters.

Song Sixth dropped Han Xiaorui off at City First Hospital first, then turned to head for the maternity and child care hospital.

The moment she appeared at the hospital, Han Xiaorui’s appearance today attracted a lot of attention.
