The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Little Fish Girl’s Showdown with Little Auntie

Xu Yingying wore high heels and a tailored blue business suit, looking the part of a capable corporate elite.

Glancing at her watch, she strode forward in a hurry, her hips swaying gracefully with each step.

Seeing it was almost one o’clock and Comrade Xiao Han had yet to arrive, Xiao Gu, who was in the hospital room, asked, ”Director Ye, should I go buy you some congee?”

Ye Feng was a little hungry, but he was more worried that Han Xiaorui might have run into trouble.

Just then, the door to the room was pushed open.

Ye Feng thought it was Han Xiaorui. He looked up, but it was Xu Yingying. ”Auntie, what are you doing here?”

Xu Yingying shot Ye Feng a glare. ”You’re so disobedient, but I still care about you! It can’t be helped. I owe my sister, so now I have to repay her kindness through you.”

Ye Feng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Auntie, you work so hard. You don’t have to run back and forth like this.”

Xu Yingying raised an eyebrow. ”You looked so disappointed to see me just now. Were you waiting for that Little Fish Girl of yours?”

Ye Feng was not pleased. ”Auntie, if you don’t respect my girlfriend, then you don’t respect me.”

”You...” Xu Yingying pressed her lips together and glared at Ye Feng again. ”You little rascal. Just go on and make me angry.”

Seeing the situation, Xiao Gu quietly slipped out to go buy congee.

Just as he reached the door, he saw Han Xiaorui. ”Comrade Xiao Han, our Director Ye was waiting for you. He wouldn’t let me go buy congee.”

Han Xiaorui smiled apologetically. ”Sorry about that. I can come earlier tomorrow.”

Xiao Gu lowered his voice and whispered a warning, ”Director Ye’s aunt is here. She seems a little difficult.”

Han Xiaorui had already seen her. She smiled. ”Okay, Xiao Gu. I can stay and look after him all afternoon. If you have something to do, you can go ahead and take care of it.”

”Alright, then I’ll go home, take a shower, and change my clothes before coming back,” Xiao Gu said with a smile. ’In any case, Director Ye would much rather have Comrade Xiao Han taking care of him.’

Han Xiaorui pushed the door open and came in, looking at Ye Feng. ”Ye Feng, you must be hungry, right?”

Hearing a woman’s voice behind her, Xu Yingying turned around. She froze for a second, then raised an eyebrow. ”Xiao Feng, who is this? Didn’t you say yesterday that you had a girlfriend?”

Ye Feng’s eyes lit up as he looked at Han Xiaorui, who had changed into a different outfit.

’Beautiful!’

’Every single thing about her was exactly his type!’

”This is Xiao Rui,” Ye Feng said with a light chuckle, his eyes never leaving Han Xiaorui.

Xu Yingying was dumbfounded. Only then did she realize that this woman did look a bit familiar.

While Xu Yingying was still stunned, Han Xiaorui raised an eyebrow at her. Her smile was radiant and her laughter was crisp. ”Miss Xu, you didn’t recognize me, did you? I’m that Little Fish Girl from yesterday!”

Seeing how bright and captivating Han Xiaorui was—lively, playful, and poised—Xu Yingying started to understand why her nephew liked her.

”I really didn’t. You look completely different from yesterday.” Xu Yingying reined in the disdain she’d felt the day before, her gaze on Han Xiaorui now holding a new seriousness.

Han Xiaorui chuckled lightly. ”Most people respect the fine clothes before the person, the outer shell before the soul. I came straight from the boat yesterday, worried about Ye Feng, so I rushed over to see him.”

”I smelled of sweat and the sea, so it’s no wonder you looked down on me. You can look down on me, but you can’t doubt Ye Feng’s taste. Right, Ye Feng?”

Ye Feng grinned, his eyes filled with affection for Han Xiaorui. ”Right!”

”Well now, looks like I’ve met my match today.” Xu Yingying had a fiery personality. Instead of getting angry at Han Xiaorui’s teasing, she found herself respecting her more. ”My sister is gone, so as his aunt, I have to vet things for Ye Feng.”

Han Xiaorui laughed heartily. ”That’s great! It proves someone cares about Ye Feng!”

”Don’t think saying that will make me lower my standards.” Xu Yingying hadn’t expected that her words, far from making Han Xiaorui back down, had actually given her the upper hand.

Han Xiaorui smiled, pressing her lips together. ”This is a good chance for me to see if Ye Feng is the type of man who’s muddle-headed and irresponsible. If he is, I can get out early and cut my losses.”

”This world is full of men and women. With over a billion eligible men out there, I refuse to believe that I, Han Xiaorui, can’t find an absolutely amazing one!”

Hearing Han Xiaorui’s words, Ye Feng was exasperated, but he believed she meant every word.

If he were muddle-headed and couldn’t tell right from wrong, Han Xiaorui really would kick him to the curb and go find someone handsomer.

This time it was Xu Yingying’s turn to be dumbfounded and incredulous. ”Aren’t women from Hua Country supposed to be very traditional and conservative? Wouldn’t this be considered... unvirtuous?”

While feeding Ye Feng his congee, Han Xiaorui rolled her eyes and scoffed at Xu Yingying’s words. ”I’m just dating. I’m not cheating on anyone, I’m not keeping a secret lover, and I’m certainly not dating multiple men at once. At most, I realize someone isn’t a good fit and move on to the next. Morally and legally, my conscience is clear.”

”Besides, I, Han Xiaorui, would even change a husband, let alone a boyfriend. I’m open-minded. If something makes me unhappy, uncomfortable, or miserable, I’m not going to waste my life stubbornly clinging to a bad situation!”

Ye Feng said nothing. He understood.

If they were to separate in the future, it would only be because he wasn’t good enough.

They still had a long way to go before they could be together forever and grow old together, but at that moment, Ye Feng found Han Xiaorui so dazzling.

’So full of life!’

’She knows how to live a brilliant life no matter the circumstances. Being with her would definitely be interesting.’

Xu Yingying smiled. If the other woman had been meek and submissive, a crying, complaining mess, she might have looked down on her.

But Han Xiaorui’s speech today made Xu Yingying think that maybe her own nephew wasn’t good enough for Han Xiaorui.

’Looks like my nephew’s road to winning her over is still a long one!’

”Han Xiaorui, right? I have to say, you’ve really impressed me. No wonder my nephew is so drawn to you.” Xu Yingying was very straightforward herself. It was hard not to like such a beautiful, fiery, and direct personality.

Han Xiaorui waved her hand dismissively. ”You flatter me. It’s only because Ye Feng is handsome and charming that I’m giving him a chance to pursue me. If I didn’t find him attractive, and he kept hanging around me, I’d have chased him off with a broom long ago.”

”You...” Xu Yingying was rendered speechless by Han Xiaorui’s retort. ”Ye Feng, are you sure you like a little spitfire like this?”

”I do!” Ye Feng answered without hesitation. He had joined the army at eighteen and had faced death several times; he understood the meaning of life better than most.

’Han Xiaorui is capable, so of course she has the right to live so freely. That’s how she can show such exuberant vitality, and that’s a better way to express the meaning of life.’

”Hmph! Well then, I won’t interrupt your little duet of flirting and flattery.” Xu Yingying felt cornered by Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui. Her usual sharp tongue was completely useless against Han Xiaorui.

’The main problem was my nephew siding with an outsider instead of me.’

Seeing Xu Yingying leave in a huff, Han Xiaorui called out after her, ”Take care, Miss Xu! Ye Feng and I will treat you to dinner some other day, you can’t refuse!”

”You’re the one who said it. Don’t go back on your word, or you’re a puppy.” Xu Yingying didn’t turn back, but she accepted Han Xiaorui’s invitation.

Her witty reply proved that Xu Yingying had, in her heart, begun to accept Han Xiaorui.
