Warhammer Divine Throne

Speaking of the Battle of Longbeard, that is the rise and fall history among the three powers: Elves, Dwarfs, and Chaos, before the rise of humans. It can’t be explained clearly without tens of thousands of words, so here’s a brief summary.

After the First Phoenix King Ailario and his friend Calado the Dragon Tamer established the Great Vortex, Ailario single-handedly killed four Great Chaos Demons, and after being severely injured, he returned the Kaine Sword to the Kaine Sword Altar and died. The Dragon Tamer was trapped forever inside the Great Vortex, and the world finally ushered in peace.

After Ailario’s death, due to the fear of the curse left by Kaine, the Elf Council did not choose Ailario’s son Malekith as the new Phoenix King, but instead chose the ”Explorer” Beau Chanel. During the reign of Beau Chanel, the Elf Empire was at its peak. The High Elves and Dwarfs formed an alliance, destroyed all Chaos armies left in the world, and opened the magnificent and glorious Golden Era, which the Elves still reminisce about.

Unfortunately, this era didn’t last long (several hundred years) as Malekith poisoned Phoenix King Beau Chanel and initiated a rebellion. The High Elves fell into civil war and split into the Dark Elves, marking the end of the Golden Era. The High Elves and Dark Elves began their history of thousands of years of civil war.

Hundreds of years later, the Dark Elves sent a small team to deliberately attack a Dwarf caravan, causing significant losses. The then Dwarf Supreme King Gaucrux-Shattered Star did not know about the Elven split. He immediately sent envoys, demanding with great forbearance that the High Elves compensate double the loss, apologize, and punish the offenders. The Phoenix King at the time was Calado II, who was arrogant and foolish, and saw this as a provocation by the Dwarfs to the High Elves. He ordered his men to shave off the beard of the Dwarf envoy.

Losing a beard is a terrible humiliation for Dwarfs, and thus the Battle of Longbeard erupted. The war concluded with the death of Calado II, the Phoenix King’s Crown was taken, and the alliance of order was shattered. Thereafter, the High Elves were busy with endless civil wars against the Dark Elves, while the Mountain Kingdoms of the Dwarfs fell one after another into the hands of the Green Skins, and humans began to rise in the Old World...

”Your human writings always record that the Elves split into the Dark Elves after withdrawing from the Old World, but in fact, the High Elves had already split before the Battle of Longbeard,” Tygris calmly said, ”The last bloodline of the Dragon Tamer family died here, and the Dragon Taming Technique was lost, which is the real pity.”

”But I remember the High Elves still have Dragon Princes who ride dragons?” Laine asked with confusion.

Dragons are incredibly powerful creatures. Before the Ancient Saints came to this world, dragons were the ruling race of this world. After the Ancient Saints arrived, to make the planet more suitable for their created species, the Ancient Saints directly altered the planetary orbit.

The climate became colder, making it less suitable for dragons to survive. Most dragons went into hibernation in nearby mountains or underground caves. In the volcanoes of the Calado Kingdom, a large number of giant dragons are said to reside in great numbers.

”It’s not the same. Before the extinction of the Dragon Tamer family, the Dragon Princes ’tamed’ dragons. After the extinction of the Dragon Tamer family, the Dragon Princes ’invite’ dragons,” Tygris explained, ”Without the Dragon Taming Technique, the Dragon Princes can only try to make friends with the dragons. To awaken a sleeping giant dragon, the Dragon Princes must sing a ’dragon song’ for three days and nights without stopping. The song must be pleasing to the dragons even in their dreams, to awaken the giant dragon and make it their partner.”

”I see.” Laine nodded in understanding, ”Indeed, I know there’s a dragon in the Royal Zoo in the Imperial Capital Brunswick, but most are asleep, only awakened by the empire in the most critical times.”

”Speaking of which, there seem to be very few dragons in the Old World?” Tygris casually asked, ”Logically, the number of sleeping giant dragons in the Old World should also be many, but I rarely see any giant dragons...”

”They were all slaughtered,” Laine said calmly.

”Slaughtered?”

”Yes, slaughtered. In Brittania, dragon slaying is not an uncommon occurrence,” Laine commented, ”There are currently more than twenty knights in the Holy Grail Knight Order who have slain a giant dragon in the Holy Grail Expedition, including sub-dragons and two-legged flying dragons. There are fewer who have slain true dragons, but throughout history, there have been many Holy Grail Knights who have done so.”

Indeed, since its founding, Brittania has been known for dragon slaying. King Arthur, the Knight King, slew dragons, his son Lewis slew dragons, and his direct descendant Duke Bohemond of Bastogne slew dragons. Many Holy Grail Knights slew dragons during the Holy Grail Expedition because dragon slaying is a way to quickly gain the attention of the Lake Fairy.

Whenever news of a giant dragon sighting comes, Expedition Knights rush forward, attempting to earn the Lady’s favor by slaying the dragon. And this method... is indeed quite effective. Even if a dragon slayer does not become a Holy Grail Knight, they will become a hero of the Kingdom.

”Oh my gosh! There’s a dragon! Quick, go tell the Brittania people!”

——Imperial proverb

”Pfft, Laine, why haven’t you slain a dragon to show the Lady?” Surya couldn’t help but laugh, addressing her husband.

”I’ve never encountered a giant dragon. In reality, there are quite a few sleeping giant dragons within the Gray Mountain Range and the Black Forest within the Empire’s territory, but the sleeping time of giant dragons is counted in thousands of years. You have to have the luck to come across one.” Laine commented.
