Chapter 2069: Chapter 2070: I’ve Always Been Confident in Myself

Immediately, he spoke faster: ”Mother, what else do you want to know? Hurry up and ask, because after this, I need to go to sleep again. I woke up too early, and I’m dead tired now.”

Last year’s new champion was a woman, the first female Zhuangyuan in history, named Lu Moran.

Lu Moran’s family background originally not only was a scholarly family, but also a wealthy household, even holding some small power. However, by her father’s generation, they had fallen into obscurity until Lu Moran ranked first last year and was hailed as Xiyun’s top female talent, with limitless prospects, bringing the Lu Family back into the public eye.

Lu Moran pursued the path of the imperial examinations, firstly because of her strong personality wanting to prove that even as a woman she was not inferior to men, and secondly to rejuvenate her family.

Su Chengyu had long allowed women to become officials, so naturally women could take the route of the imperial examinations. An Jing knew about the female champion over the years.

When An Yizhi asked what more she wanted to know, An Jing’s eyes lit up immediately and asked, ”I just want to know, is there a possibility between you two?”

An Yizhi replied indifferently, ”She is so strong-willed and doesn’t wish to depend on anyone; who else but me could put up with her?”

An Jing was both amused and exasperated.

”Even though now she doesn’t really pay attention to me, and even frequently finds me annoying and a hindrance,” An Yizhi continued, ”but between her and me it’s just a matter of time. Unless anything unexpected happens... no, actually there will be no surprises, Mother, she is your future daughter-in-law.”

An Jing was even more amused and exasperated: ”Are you that sure?” She really felt her son was overly enthusiastic.

An Yizhi said, ”I have always had confidence in myself.”

An Jing didn’t want to say anything more, urging him: ”I see your eyelids are about to close, you better go sleep.”

An Yizhi went off to sleep immediately without hesitation.

Seeing this, An Jing could only smile helplessly and shake her head.

...

Five years later.

Lu Moran rose to the position of Vice Minister by her own ability and effort.

One day, An Yizhi woke up drowsily on the couch and saw Lu Moran still sitting at the desk handling affairs. He said, ”You’ve become Vice Minister, can’t you take a break? Every time I open my eyes, you’re working.”

Lu Moran didn’t even glance at him, continuing to deal with her affairs while casually saying, ”The higher the position, the greater the responsibility. I don’t want to ruin everything I’ve worked hard for.”

An Yizhi didn’t continue discussing this with her. Instead, he moved closer to her, lying on the desk where she was working, and asked, ”Shouldn’t we be getting married?”

Lu Moran still didn’t look at him but replied verbally, ”Yes, we should.”

An Yizhi was immediately delighted, but before he could speak, Lu Moran added, ”As long as you agree that my life will follow the path I choose after marriage, then I will marry you.”

”Clarify a bit.”

”After marriage, I would continue being an official and can’t serve by the King and Queen’s side like your sister-in-laws do. Agree to this, and we can marry whenever you want.” She was truly fed up with his pestering; when she ignored him, he would sleep where she worked.

As for her giving up everything she fought so hard to achieve just for marriage, that was absolutely not going to happen.

Upon hearing this, An Yizhi immediately sat beside her with a radiant smile, hugging her: ”My parents have so many daughters-in-law serving them, they don’t need you to. Besides, my parents know that it’s more beneficial to the people for you to be an official than serving them, so naturally they wouldn’t want you to serve.”
