Necromancer: I Am A Disaster

Lin Moyu was stunned by the news.

The Dragonkind and Demon allied forces had attacked with overwhelming momentum, so why would they suddenly retreat?

“Did something happen?” Lin Moyu asked.

Meng Anwen shook his head, “Not the entire allied forces. Only the Demons have withdrawn.”

“That’s even stranger. Is it internal conflict?” Lin Moyu frowned, unable to piece it together.

Meng Anwen said, “If you can’t figure it out, don’t waste time on it. Their retreat is a good thing.”

He was right. With the Demons gone, only the Dragonkind remained.

The pressure on the humans would ease dramatically, and casualties would drop.

Whatever the reason, this was good news.

Lin Moyu asked, “What about the Dragonkind? How are they responding?”

Meng Anwen replied, “They’ve halted their assault for now. But I suspect they’ll retreat as well. Facing us alone would likely lead to mutual destruction.”

Lin Moyu said, “A pyrrhic victory would only benefit the Abyssal Demons. The snipe and clam fight, and the fisherman profits.”

“Exactly.”

Unless something unexpected occurred, the Dragons would withdraw.

It was the best possible outcome under the circumstances. Though the humans had suffered heavy losses, the Dragonkind and Demon allied forces hadn’t escaped unscathed either.

In this sudden war, there were no winners.

Meng Anwen added, “I suspect the Demons’ withdrawal is related to you.”

“The ambush failed. Without eliminating us, this war lost its strategic purpose.”

Lin Moyu understood. He had been the Dragon Emperor’s primary target; Meng Anwen and the others were secondary.

Had they succeeded, the allied forces could have advanced straight into human territory.

Even if not total extinction, the humans would have been crippled beyond recovery.

But they failed. Not a single target had fallen.

The war’s foundation had collapsed.

Meng Anwen connected to the Eternal Great Wall’s formations, projecting images from the Dimensional Battlefield.

The Demon forces were retreating like an ebbing tide. The Dragonkind forces had ceased their assault.

The Human forces wisely withdrew into their fortresses instead of pursuing.

It seemed the war would end just like this.

Then a streak of sword light tore across the sky at astonishing speed.

Meng Anwen gave a soft exclamation, “Why is he here?”

Lin Moyu’s expression shifted, “Righteous God?”

Meng Anwen nodded, “It seems he has recovered.”

At Meng Anwen’s level, there were few things capable of surprising him. Jiang Yi was one of them.

A legend from over 600 years ago, Jiang Yi had reached level 98 and touched the threshold of half-step Transcendent God-level before his fall.

Time had dulled Meng Anwen’s sense of awe toward him.

As for Lin Moyu, he respected the man, but not revered.

In their minds, though both were half-step Transcendent God-level, Emperor Di had a far stronger presence than Jiang Yi.

Lin Moyu wondered, “What is he doing here now?”

Meng Anwen was equally puzzled. Why appear at this moment? Had he only just completed his recovery?

With the Eternal Great Wall activated, with such a massive disturbance, it was impossible that Jiang Yi had been unaware.

He had sensed the Demon Emperor’s strike across space last time, let alone this event.

Meng Anwen speculated, “Perhaps he truly just finished recovering.”

In Meng Anwen’s vision, Jiang Yi arrived standing upon a flying sword. Alone, he charged directly into the Dragonkind forces.

Level 98, half-step Transcendent God-level, his power was terrifying.

Law surged like a storm. Dragonkind Battle General fell in waves. Even two Dragon Kings lasted less than five seconds.

Jiang Yi moved as though walking through empty land—sword light weaving, crossing, annihilating everything in its path.

The Dragonkind forces collapsed under the assault of a single man, scattering in panic.

The Demons had retreated early enough to avoid him entirely.

After crushing the Dragonkind forces, Jiang Yi wrapped himself in radiant sword light and plunged deeper into the Dimensional Battlefield, vanishing into darkness.

Anyone he encountered in those depths, Dragonkind or Demon alike, was doomed.

Meng Anwen let out a sigh, “It seems he’s venting.”

Earlier, Jiang Yi had cut through the enemies in a ruthless frenzy. His Law surged wildly, saturated with deep-seated hatred and a suffocating malevolence.

Through the sword light, Meng Anwen could clearly sense those emotions.

It was understandable. Jiang Yi had nearly perished, endured centuries of isolation, and only recently been resurrected. How could he not harbor resentment?

Meng Anwen understood that all too well.

Lin Moyu frowned, “Teacher, you mean he was venting?”

Meng Anwen nodded, “His sword light and law were steeped in hatred—profound hatred. Every opponent he struck was reduced to minced flesh.”

Instead of clarity, the explanation only deepened Lin Moyu’s confusion.

After a brief pause, Meng Anwen continued, “Now that I think about it, something did feel off. Even when his enemies were clearly dead, he would still strike them several more times, tearing the corpses apart.”

Lin Moyu said, “Something isn’t right. When I met Righteous God in the secret realm, he was gentle, like an old man who had seen through the world and reached enlightenment.”

“There was no hostility, no hatred. Only calm and broad-mindedness.”

Meng Anwen fell silent for a few seconds before speaking slowly, “Do you think his hatred toward the Demons erupted completely after his resurrection? Or perhaps his feelings toward the humans…”

Lin Moyu shook his head, “That shouldn’t be the case. Even if he despised the Demons, it shouldn’t have escalated to this extent. And the ones he just killed weren’t Demons, but Dragonkind.”

His reasoning was sound. The higher one’s soul rank, the more stable one’s emotions typically became.

Even overwhelming hatred rarely led to such extremes.

The Dragon Emperor loathed Lin Moyu to the bone, yet still maintained composure.

Moreover, in Jiang Yi’s era, human–Dragonkind interactions had been largely confined to the Immemorial Battlefield.

Back then, the humans’ true mortal enemies were the Demons, who had nearly caused Jiang Yi’s original downfall.

If he were to hate anyone, it should have been them.

The Demons had only just retreated. If Jiang Yi wished to pursue them, he easily could have caught up.

But he hadn’t.

Instead, he slaughtered whatever enemy appeared before him, indiscriminate and unhesitating.

His rationality seemed diminished.

Neither Meng Anwen nor Lin Moyu could make sense of it. After a moment’s thought, Lin Moyu retrieved Antares’s scale.

This concerned a half-step Transcendent God-level powerhouse of the human race. With Emperor Di gone, Jiang Yi now stood as their strongest. The matter could not be ignored.

Shamelessly, Lin Moyu disturbed Antares once more.

Fortunately, the Antares was awake this time, though not without offering a few mocking remarks.

By now, Lin Moyu’s shamelessness had reached new heights, especially when dealing with Antares.

It didn’t take long to obtain an answer from Antares.

Meng Anwen looked at him, “What did Sir say?”

Lin Moyu put away the scale, “He believes something went wrong during Jiang Yi’s resurrection. The issue likely lies with the Demon-Slaying Sword in his hand.”

Meng Anwen searched his memory, his voice growing heavy, “The Demon-Slaying Sword was extremely famous back then. According to the records, humanity paid a tremendous price to forge it.”

“It was also the spark that ignited the war of that time, and Jiang Yi’s fall was partly connected to it.”

“There should be detailed archives in the Imperial Archives. Let’s go take a look.”
