Pillar of Yita

”Is it in here?” Fang Hong thought.

Although placing the Core Crystal in that location was somewhat unconventional, there were certain special designs to protect the core from being destroyed. So he took another step forward, disassembling the outer shell of the helmet in the same manner, but the result was equally shocking to him—there wasn’t any Core Crystal inside at all, just a strange-looking device he’d never seen before.

In the device connected by a dense network of pipelines, there was indeed a small piece of crystal embedded, but the size and shape of that crystal didn’t match a Core Crystal at all. Moreover, when Fang Hong tried to inject magic power into it, there was no reaction at all.

The crystal was semi-transparent, light purple, as if it contained a sea of light inside. Upon closer inspection, there seemed to be a hundred floating stars.

Fang Hong was now a bit confused.

Not finding a Core Crystal was actually beyond his common knowledge and understanding—a construct must have a Core Crystal—whether it was a Flexible Construct or another type. It was their core for storing magic power. Without magic power, how could a construct move?

With a strong sense of suspicion, he simply took the entire construct’s shell apart, but the final result left him petrified on the spot—there was no spare space for a Core Crystal anywhere in the entire construct.

How is this possible!

Fang Hong nearly shouted out, this completely defied logic.

Among the three people beside him, only Luo Yu understood what he was doing, ”Captain, does this construct not have a Core Crystal?”

Fang Hong nodded in bewilderment, his brows knitted into a frown.

Luo Yu thought for a moment, ”But it has a Magic Guided Reactor, could it be...”

But how could the magic power output from a Magic Guided Reactor sustain this construct’s operation? Fang Hong had considered this before, but had dismissed it.

However, Luo Yu’s words still gave him a hint. He circled around to the back of the construct to check out the Magic Guided Reactor: its model was a bit old, likely a product of the Empire from ten years ago.

”What kind of Magic Guided Reactor is this?” Ai Xiaoxiao, already brimming with curiosity, asked at this point, ”Is it custom-made?”

The Magic Guided Reactor is a core device that allows humans to use Magic Guided Conductors, considered one of the epoch-making inventions.

And different Magic Guided Reactors depend on what technical support the wearer needs—a craftsman uses a craftsman’s Magic Guided Reactor, a ranger uses a ranger’s Magic Guided Reactor, which is a matter of course.

However, ultimately, the difference in Magic Guided Reactors lies in the different designs of the Core Crystals within them.

The Skycyan Stone Magic Guided Reactor is more suitable for craftsmen because the crystal structure and the design of the plugins better meet the skill requirements of craftsmen.

Similarly, the Red Square Crystal Magic Guided Reactor is more suitable for warriors.

Whether people can use these Magic Guided Reactors depends on their mastery of relevant knowledge and their application and understanding of the plugins on the Magic Guided Reactor.

Therefore, higher-level Magic Guided Reactors have more complex and precise plugins and crystals embedded, requiring the wearer to possess more specialized knowledge.

But construct usually doesn’t operate this way; they have their own fixed Core Crystal and are different from humans. What abilities they can use only depends on the Magic Guided Accessories installed at the design stage.

Although retrofitting can be done later, it ultimately cannot exceed the range supported by its Core Crystal.

Of course, one could replace the Core Crystal, but doing so would be putting the cart before the horse, because all the accessories of a construct are tailor-made for its compatible Core Crystal at the initial design stage. Replacing the Core Crystal would be as laborious as redesigning a whole new construct.

As for Ai Xiaoxiao’s curious question.

Fang Hong just shook his head.

For the aforementioned reasons, he initially thought it was a specially designed Magic Guided Reactor for Flexible Constructs.

But it turns out, it was not.

”This is just a Gunslinger’s Magic Guided Reactor, simplified, but it shouldn’t have been simplified for this construct, only for cost considerations.”

In his heart, he had some inkling of what the Magic Guided Reactor was for.

But after thinking for a bit, Fang Hong took out a Magic Storage Crystal, inserted it into a slot, and activated the Magic Guided Reactor.

In the next moment, the Core Crystal of the Magic Guided Reactor lit up, its wisps of light transmitted through metal pipes and ether wires, partly to the Imperial Magic-Guided Musket Type XI, and partly to the huge sword scabbard.

Yet, the construct still hung its head, unmoving.

Fang Hong silently watched this scene.

At this moment, Tang Xin seemed to have some understanding, her voice carried a trace of surprise, ”The magic power supply from the Magic Guided Reactor is only transmitted to the Magic Guided Conductor?... Wait a minute, does this construct have a Gunslinger profession?”

Although hard to believe, Fang Hong still nodded.

Only this explanation could explain the scene in front of them.

This is actually the same principle as humans using a Magic Guided Reactor—providing magic power support through the Magic Guided Reactor to use various Magic Guided Devices.

Different Magic Guided Reactors are only meant to accommodate different Magic Guided Devices.

”This is somewhat illogical,” Luo Yu suddenly said, ”If it has the Gunslinger profession, doesn’t that mean... only a Gunslinger can operate it?”

Generally speaking, that’s the case.

Artisans can operate different constructs because they have mastered the knowledge of relevant constructs and know how to use any device on them.

This is why Combat Artisans learn to use combat plugins from other professions.

But when craftsmen construct different types of Flexible Constructs, they essentially use dedicated Core Crystals and accessories, so they only need to have some understanding of other professions without actually becoming a master of the corresponding profession.
