Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 195: Chapter 184 Distribution in Other Regions

Opening this option, a map is revealed.

This map, of course, isn’t like his mapping ability, which has a large range and can mark positions and enemy units on the map. This map is circular, with green representing the jungle, yellow representing bare land. It’s a very simple map, with a very small display range, only slightly larger than his plant heart domain.

In the center of the map, there is a symbol of a flourishing treehouse, which should be his treehouse. Near the edge of the map, there’s a smaller treehouse symbol, which should be the parasitic treehouse he is currently in.

The size of this map is likely determined by the distance to the farthest parasitic treehouse from the host treehouse. Right now, he only has this one parasitic treehouse, so the map is only this big.

Xu Xin first clicked on the central treehouse symbol, and a line of small text popped up.

[Host Treehouse. Treehouse Name: Tall Little Treehouse (Purple)]

The name of the treehouse was blinking.

Xu Xin tried clicking it, and sure enough, an option to change the treehouse name appeared.

He tried changing it to a team name he used when playing survival games: Fourteen States.

[Confirm change? The name cannot be changed again within seven days if modified.]

Xu Xin clicked confirm.

[Host Treehouse. Treehouse Name: Fourteen States (Purple)]

So, the name of the treehouse was changed just like that?

He then clicked on the smaller treehouse symbol near the map’s edge.

[Parasitic Treehouse. Treehouse Name: Low Parasitic Small Treehouse (Green)]

The name could also be changed here.

To validate his hypothesis, he renamed it: Parasitic Treehouse 01.

After changing the name, he touched the wall of the treehouse.

[Parasitic Treehouse 01 (Green): A treehouse without a treehouse core, currently parasitizing on Fourteen States (Purple). Due to the parasitism...]

Indeed, the name of the treehouse was directly changed even in the description!

After confirming his hypothesis regarding the name, Xu Xin began to look through the various permissions that appeared after opening the panel below.

He discovered that all the projects his treehouse possessed could be unlocked within this parasitic treehouse.

[Basic Material Crafting] [Regional Channel] [Rankings] [Decoration Rating] and other projects everyone had, not to mention distinctive ones like [Treehouse Modification] [Artist] [Alchemy], could all be unlocked!

He quickly unlocked all the permissions and began to operate the treehouse screen in front of him.

Although this treehouse was much smaller than his own, the screen was just as large, taking up a significant part of this wall.

He had plenty of green-level resources, so he tried crafting some basic stations, such as a crafting station, weapon and armor manufacturing station, and encountered no problems.

After tinkering for a while, he concluded: If he unlocked all the permissions for this treehouse, apart from its smaller size, it would essentially be equivalent to his main treehouse with all the same functionalities!

However, if others were to use it, abilities like ’Artist’ or ’Alchemy’ wouldn’t be available to them.

After all, even if they had the materials and created workstations, without his carving and painting abilities, they couldn’t create statues. Similarly, without alchemy abilities, they wouldn’t see blueprints when operating the alchemy synthesis table or crafting table, so despite having the workstation, they couldn’t perform alchemy.

It’s just unclear what would happen if the parasitic treehouse had abilities he didn’t.

For example, Li Wenxi might have a project related to her abilities, and if she transplanted her treehouse here, would her unique project be restricted by the host treehouse, or could it bring new capabilities to the host treehouse?

However, it doesn’t make much sense to consider this, as capable individuals, like those in the ’Explorers’ group, are unlikely to transplant their treehouses into someone else’s protection range to live parasitically off others.

After all, this form of parasitism is too restrictive. All the functions of the treehouse are under the control of the host treehouse owner, who can disable and enable at will. Even the most basic crafting can be prohibited, that’s essentially handing your life to someone else.

Currently, this additional parasitic treehouse doesn’t serve much purpose for him, perhaps it could be given to the Chang Yin Family when they return to live in it.

It’s been so many days; I wonder how the Chang Yin Family is doing. I should find some time to check on them in the Hilly Resource Zone.

Xu Xin also looked around the second floor of this treehouse but found nothing noteworthy.

So he took out the treehouse core from his backpack.

[Core of the Low Small Treehouse: The core that provides growth energy to the treehouse, removing it will cause immediate death of the treehouse. Consuming the energy within the core of the Low Small Treehouse can upgrade one piece of blue-level basic material to purple level.]

A tool that can upgrade a piece of blue-level resource to purple level. The description mentions consuming energy but doesn’t specify whether energy can be replenished.

Xu Xin decided to give it a try.

However, he was hesitating about which resource to upgrade to purple level.

Manufacturing tools weren’t necessary for now, as blue-level manufacturing tools could harvest purple-level resources, which was sufficient. He mainly considered between a boning knife, a carving knife, and weapons.

With a purple-level boning knife, he could extract purple-level materials from beast bodies. A purple-level carving knife would allow him to sculpt purple-level statues. As for weapons, a purple-level weapon would undoubtedly be superior to a blue-level one.

Forget it, these can be considered at night. He now plans to continue searching for other treehouses nearby, to see if there are any others on the brink of death due to last night’s disaster. If there are, he will be able to obtain the treehouse core and have more options to choose from.

However, treehouses that have lost their survivors will only exist for 24 hours. After six o’clock last night, the blood-spurting vines began their attack, causing a large number of survivors to die. There are still three hours until six o’clock tonight. Once it’s past six, the 24 hours will pass, and those remaining treehouses may completely die.

He needs to find those treehouses before this time and extract the core, since he doesn’t know if the core will still be there after the treehouse dies.

It’s better to inform the other members of the [Explorers] about this since they will be true partners in the future.

Picking up Keke, who was scratching the floor while sitting on it, Xu Xin returned to his treehouse.

He first shared his discoveries in the Explorers group chat.

Wang Lei: ”You can actually encounter someone else’s treehouse! And treehouses can be transplanted?! Doesn’t that mean I can latch onto someone’s success!”

Zhao Xiaochuan: ”What success? Didn’t you hear Brother Xin? The transplanted treehouse is completely under the host’s control! Do you want to entrust your life to someone else?”

Wen Guixin: ”You can actually extract a core from a treehouse and upgrade blue-tier resources to purple-tier resources... Doesn’t this encourage conflict among survivors? By killing or conquering a survivor, you can plunder their treehouse and acquire a subsidiary treehouse along with a set of purple-tier resources? I’m tempted...”

Li Wenxi: ”Oh my god, does this mean we not only have to guard against beasts and mutant creatures in the future but also other survivors?”

Qi Xuefei: ”It’s not much different from before, right? We already had to be wary of other survivors. Wenxi, you’re too undefended.”

Li Wenxi: ”Uh, isn’t it different! The defense zones were smaller before, so they couldn’t find my treehouse. Now some zones are connected, and they can directly come over! How terrifying, I need to add more crossbows!”

Qin Yunlong: ”Don’t be afraid. We are already the top existence in the area, and few people can harm us unless the top existences from other areas come here.”

Qin Yunhu: ”We are not clear on how the areas are divided yet.”

Then, Ji Chaoyang called him via voice.

”Xu Xin, are you sure the owner of the treehouse died in last night’s disaster?” Ji Chaoyang’s voice carried a hint of doubt.

It seems Ji Chaoyang shared the same suspicion. Last night, with their help, no one died in Jungle Area 188. Ji Chaoyang might suspect he killed someone from the same area.

”Don’t suspect me. If I had done it, I wouldn’t need to hide it.”

”You misunderstood. I didn’t suspect you. No... I did suspect for a moment, but I immediately checked the number of people in the area channel. The numbers remain the same as last night, indicating our area’s population hasn’t changed since before the vines started attacking.” Ji Chaoyang explained calmly.

Talking to smart people is really much easier.

”Actually, I am also puzzled by this. Could it be that the owner of this treehouse is not from our Jungle Area 188?” Xu Xin voiced his guess.

”Is it possible you’re at the edge of the area?”

”No possibility.” Xu Xin explained his reasoning to Ji Chaoyang. Further in the same direction lies Li Wenxi’s treehouse.

The other side was silent for a moment, then said with some helplessness: ”So, those two lights during the rainy season were you two? You even asked me if I saw them.”

”Haha... Her resources, my abilities, when we have sufficient resources, we will naturally share them with everyone.”

Ji Chaoyang didn’t continue discussing this but instead said: ”Here’s the thing, Xu Xin, I sorted out yesterday’s information and found a point of doubt, but combining it with your findings, I feel I’ve discovered the truth.”

”What truth?” Xu Xin pursed his lips, becoming more curious about what this guy went through yesterday.

”This area might not be occupied solely by us from Jungle Area 188.”

Ji Chaoyang’s words made Xu Xin’s eyelids twitch. He had thought of this several times but always felt something was off.

”You mean the people from all areas are actually mixed together?” Xu Xin asked.

”No, not all areas.” Ji Chaoyang said, ”But rather, the ranges of the areas overlap.”

”Overlap?” Xu Xin furrowed his brows at the abstract concept.

”In simple terms, if each world is a table and the area’s territories are a deck of cards, our areas are like a pile of messily stacked cards. All survivors from Area 188 are distributed relatively close, representing one area. If we consider the distribution with Area 188 survivors as our territory, then parts may overlap with Jungle Area 187’s territory, and parts with Jungle Area 189’s territory.”

...This explanation isn’t simple.

Xu Xin envisioned it and understood his meaning: ”You mean we are actually interspersed with people from neighboring areas?”

”That’s exactly what I mean, so I plan to go out and verify this hypothesis. You should also not idle, go out and take a look again. After all, if there are other dying treehouses, they are also resources.” Ji Chaoyang said.

”I think that too. I’m just about to head out again.”

Ji Chaoyang’s hypothesis indeed made some sense.

After ending the call, Xu Xin went to the window and observed the surroundings. He pinpointed another direction where he had seen another treehouse yesterday. It’s not clear now, but the general direction should be correct.

This direction it is.

Bringing the Four Beasts along, he embarked on the quest for treehouses once more.

This time, he wanted to see if he could encounter living survivors. If there are survivors from other areas nearby...

Let’s see what happens.
