Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 158: Chapter 157: Collective Upgrade, Breaking Through the Encirclement! (4000 Words!)

The bodies of the Silver King and Mimi had grown larger, the blood-red patterns on them becoming more vibrant and beautiful. Xu Xin instinctively glanced at the map and found that these two were still represented by green dots, indicating companions, which calmed him down.

He was really worried that these two might break the contract after leveling up, especially Mimi, since the [Mutated Beast Contract] only worked on lower-level mutated beasts. Now it seemed that the increase in strength after the contract did not affect it.

Just after taking a few steps, the Silver King suddenly lunged forward.

”Bang!”

Xu Xin was knocked to the ground, landing on his back on the floor.

”Eek!” Keke was startled, instinctively wanting to claw at the Silver King, but its claws dug into the Silver King’s fur without causing any harm.

Xu Xin, however, did not dodge because he did not sense any malice from the Silver King.

Sure enough, after knocking Xu Xin down, the Silver King licked his face, making a whining sound like a big dog begging for attention.

The two wolf fangs, looking thicker and sharper than before, swayed across Xu Xin’s face but perfectly avoided touching him.

”Haha, alright, alright!” Xu Xin pushed the Silver King’s mouth away.

The Silver King was still the same Silver King, but now, having become a mid-level mutated beast, its personality seemed more proactive.

Mimi also approached, and its gaze toward Xu Xin was much friendlier than before. Xu Xin noticed that Mimi’s front claws had also become sharper, leaving small holes in the treehouse floor with each step.

”Mimi, retract your claws, don’t pierce the floor!” Xu Xin jumped up immediately.

Although the treehouse would automatically repair itself, it couldn’t withstand Mimi piercing it with every step!

Mimi let out a dissatisfied meow.

It had actually retracted its claws halfway, but the upgrade had made them longer and sharper, so even when retracted, they still caused significant damage.

It adjusted its posture, slowly retracting its sharp nails further. Although some still protruded, they no longer harmed the treehouse floor.

”Phew...” Xu Xin breathed a sigh of relief, at least he didn’t have to worry about Mimi dismantling the house with every step.

Afu also flew over and landed on Mimi.

”Wow, you’ve grown so big too!” Xu Xin was surprised; with just a few flaps of Afu’s wings, he realized its wingspan was almost two meters! Moreover, the blood veins on the inside of its wings were extremely bright, looking completely different from before.

He didn’t know what type of creature Afu was, but it was never a very large bat. Afu was the largest he had picked from the entire bat colony, but initially, its wingspan was less than a meter, appearing quite small on his shoulder.

But now, good heavens, it was almost as big as the bald eagle he had seen.

Afu let out a squeaky call. Even though its body had grown significantly, its call was still just as high-pitched.

Xu Xin patted Silver King’s head and joked, ”Silver King, out of you four, you’re the only one who’s not a whiny creature.”

”Awo!” The Silver King howled, raising its head.

Definitely, Keke and Afu were typical whiny creatures. Mimi, though a giant, still had a thin cat-like meow. Without the vocal structure of a big cat from the Panthera genus, she would be stuck with meowing for life.

Xu Xin took them to the window and started explaining his plan, pointing at the vines outside.

To break through the area, they first needed a landing point.

He had to use explosive arrows to blow up the vines below the treehouse, creating a landing zone, then take Silver King and Mimi down. After that, it would be their time to shine.

These bloodthorn vines were low-level mutated creatures, relying solely on their numbers. The Silver King and Mimi, now middle-level mutated beasts, even their roars could intimidate them, making it feasible to carve a path out of the vine cluster.

”Silver King, try roaring once more.”

”Awoo? Woo... awooo—” Although unsure of Xu Xin’s intent, the Silver King lifted its head and let out another roar.

As the Silver King roared, the vines below the treehouse retracted downwards, reducing in height.

It seemed there was no problem. The two beasts still had a strong deterrent effect on the bloodthorn vines.

Mimi and the Silver King weren’t ordinary mid-level mutated beasts. They were the largest individuals in their groups, born different and inherently powerful. Becoming mutated beasts only enhanced their existing strength.

Not all mutated beasts of the same level had equal strength. Like the mid-level mutated wildcat summoned from the altar, which was killed with a single slap by a non-mutated tiger.

The base strength mattered. If the initial strength was low, becoming a mutated beast still resulted in ordinary power. Silver King and Mimi ranked among the strongest mid-level mutated beasts; dealing with the vine cluster below shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Xu Xin suddenly thought of the grizzly bear. Even without being a mutated beast, the bear possessed immense strength. Whether the Silver King and Mimi could compete with it was still unknown.

If he could turn that grizzly bear into a mutated beast and tame it, his team’s combat power would definitely increase exponentially. Of course, so would the food consumption exponentially grow.
