Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 160: Chapter 158: The Real and Fake Cave (Another 4,000 Words!)

”We must find that heart as quickly as possible!” Xu Xin looked at the treehouse surrounded by vines, feeling a strong sense of urgency welling up.

Even though, according to the progress of the Blood Patterned Vine, there’s at least five or six hours before they are completely strengthened, who knows when these vines will start moving? They might attack the treehouse even before they are fully fortified.

These vines are not the sporadic Blood Patterned Vines from the morning, but rather Blood Thorn Vines filled with blood thorns! In terms of striking power, they are much stronger than the mainly piercing-attacking Blood Patterned Vine, and they will deal more significant damage to the treehouse’s armor.

Xu Xin had already left the treehouse, and now it could only rely on the treehouse armor for defense. If these vines collectively launch an attack, it probably won’t hold out for long.

”Ying!” Keke climbed onto Xu Xin’s shoulder, nudged his face, and pointed towards Silver King and Mimi.

Xu Xin turned his head and noticed something unusual about Silver King and Mimi.

Both beasts were staring with blood-red eyes at the swaying vines, Mimi arched her back, body tense, and Silver King issued a low growl, seeming as if ready to charge into the vines again.

Afu flapped its wings mid-air, not daring to land on Mimi’s back.

”You two, calm down.” Xu Xin softly stroked the backs of the two beasts, smoothing their fur.

...The personality flaws of the intermediate mutant beasts had emerged.

They have extremely aggressive tendencies, fearless, like born warriors; but once hurt, they will relentlessly pursue the enemy, madly chasing without regard for their own stamina and position.

The intermediate mutant beasts Xu Xin encountered were all like this, without exception.

Mutant hares and mutant wild cats died because they were too obsessed with fighting. During the rainy season, a mutant sailfish was also lured by Xu Xin under the treehouse and eventually died from a crossbow piercing its head due to this very trait.

He hadn’t expected that even Mimi and Silver King would exhibit such behavior.

During the breakout just now, with so many vines, some did attack them. Xu Xin, with his purple-grade Scale Armor, remained unscathed, but Mimi in the front and Silver King handling the sides got some scratches.

However, they were only minor scratches, yet despite this, both beasts had the urge to charge into the vines and massacre.

This was not a good sign.

Fortunately, with Xu Xin’s calming intervention, the two beasts quickly settled down.

”Awoo?” Even Silver King tilted its head like Keke, seemingly confused about why it so eagerly wanted to rush into the vines just now.

Mimi, in turn, froze for two seconds before shaking her body like a dripping wet cat, as if trying to shake off the unrealistic thoughts from her body.

It seemed the two beasts were also aware of their lapse and were adjusting their state.

Luckily, they were still listening to Xu Xin and could control themselves, which greatly reduced the probability of problems occurring.

There’s no more time to waste. Xu Xin mounted the wolf and surveyed the surroundings.

According to Ji Chaoyang, the entrance to that cave was only a few hundred meters near the treehouse and was recently discovered.

A range of a few hundred meters shouldn’t be hard to search. Xu Xin looked at the map; there were no signs of a newly appeared cave within a kilometer radius. The map primarily marked living creatures.

”Keke, can you sense the big monster and know which direction it’s in?” Xu Xin touched Keke’s tail again, who had climbed onto the back of Silver King, and asked.

”Ying...” Keke raised its little paw, pointing at the treehouse, then downward beneath it.

”What do you mean?” Xu Xin’s face changed.

”Ying!” Keke raised its paw again, mimicking a big monster’s action, then pointed below the treehouse.

”...The heart is directly below the treehouse?!”

”Ying!” Keke nodded its little head.

Xu Xin took a deep breath.

No wonder.

No wonder Keke had been unusually clingy since this morning, following him everywhere, even lying on his lap while he carved. No wonder it insisted on leaving the treehouse with him earlier.

...Turns out it could feel all along that the danger was nearby and the heart was right below the treehouse!

He suddenly thought of what Ji Chaoyang had said to him.

”This hole is not bottomless but slants downward toward the treehouse, and the sound came from within the hole.”

The direction of that cave leads toward the treehouse! It seemed, on Ji Chaoyang’s side, the heart deep within the cave was actually below the treehouse.

The area directly below the treehouse should be where the roots of the treehouse are most abundant. It’s unknown how this heart appeared in such a place.

No matter what, since the ”heart” is just below the treehouse, the entrance wouldn’t be far from it. Within a radius of a few hundred meters isn’t large, and once close to the entrance, a mysterious scent will drift out, making it very easy to find.

Xu Xin instructed the beasts to search separately. He and Keke went south, the other three beasts to the other directions, calling out once they found the cave.

With the sustained amplification from the blue-grade fruit, Xu Xin ran effortlessly, scanning his surroundings with his currently enhanced vision.

The woods were dense, severely obstructing his line of sight, and though Xu Xin could conduct a grid search, he ended up finding nothing.
