Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Lady Pet laughed happily twice, pushed Mack away, bypassed the still shy Rosero, and leaned over to Ruth’s side.

”I say, Ruth, that thing from Kamente Tower has nothing to do with us.” She raised an eyebrow and gave Ruth a flirtatious glance. ”For this, you have to ask Mack.”

”What are you talking about?” the black-robed Mack said expressionlessly, ”Isn’t Kamente Tower a member of the Tower of Dark Enigma?

I recall he never did anything that violated the oath of the Dark Enigma.”

Ruth glanced at him... Although Mack had the worst attitude here, he was also the one with the least ulterior motives towards the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Or rather, Mack, and the ’Black Artists’ behind him, were indifferent to the Tower of Dark Enigma’s inclusion and the possible portion of the pie they might claim in the future.

Having nothing to seek and nothing to fear, plus Kamente Tower being a nail that the Tower of Dark Enigma could not possibly remove, made Mack the most genuine one here.

Meanwhile, Rosero was clearly trying to distance the Tower of Dark Enigma temporarily from the White Faction.

People like them, who have been in high positions for a long time, including the relatively young Gilbert, could not suddenly drop their posture and get intimate with a group of Master of Sia Tower’s male lovers.

Whether male or female, it’s the same.

Especially women, who must stay further away, otherwise, if someone suspected they wanted to, hmm, steal one of the Master of Sia Tower’s skirt-chasers, what would happen?

After all, on this first day, the rulers of Sia Tower made their identities clear... No one could play dumb.

Or rather, anyone from the Tower of Dark Enigma, as long as they’re not foolish, knows they don’t have the privilege to play dumb.

Although Rosero’s approach was a bit unexpected, Ruth could feel that this was the reason Mack was so stable.

In other words, before sending out those three Eighth Ring, the leaders of these three factions had already reached a consensus.

Otherwise... Lady Pet wouldn’t act so exaggeratedly.

Ruth smiled peacefully and exchanged pleasantries with Lady Pet... He truly didn’t mind someone trying to poach people from his side.

It also made him realize one thing... the recent internal conflicts between Sia and the ’Black Artists’ were not a charade.

Sometimes, when two powerful forces clash, the ones who suffer the most, and die in the worst ways, might not be them but the middle faction.

Because a very apparent fact... the so-called middle faction is essentially just selected to stand there. When their masters don’t intervene, they can fight with the other sides, but... when the big bosses backing the two factions face each other, they can only cower at home, trembling.

The brilliance nurtured by those behind the scenes... is merely a layer of color.

Of course, they won’t let the High-level Mages of the Colorful Clothes Sect suffer any significant losses. Even if those two have a bad relationship, they still have common interests here.

But the lives of low-level mages, they’re surely not going to manage.

No wonder Lady Pet acted like a hen with a rooster’s tail feather today, giggling and dressed extravagantly.

But this bright red, really, wasn’t much different from the color of the airship behind Ruth from Aislin... Under the sunlight, reflecting off each other, it made Ruth’s eyes slightly painful.

He really was struggling to hold on... No wonder Lady Pet chose to stand by his side, talking while holding his arm... Had she stood in front of him, she would’ve been turned into a red feather duster by the red glow reflecting off Aislin’s airship.

Ruth couldn’t quite understand... Didn’t Lady Pet know what color Aislin’s airship was?

This isn’t Sia Tower... Oh... Seems like it is, the one Mack sold to Aislin last time, right?

He couldn’t help but glance at the black-robed Archmage, looking so serious and proper, listening to Lady Pet’s enthusiastic introduction of Sia Tower’s distribution.

Sure enough, none of them are good.

Fortunately, Lady Pet didn’t seem to care and never mentioned the airship.

Rosero, who noticed Lady Pet finally finished her pile of nonsense, quickly spoke up to prevent the woman from continuing: ”So, my friends, we are ready with the introduction of Sia Tower for each mage.

However, the usage rights for some public areas like libraries require you to register your information.”

He pointed to the hundreds of mages behind him: ”It’s getting late, please choose a mage that you find pleasing, and simply press your handprint onto the crystal ball they’re holding.”

Then he immediately looked at Ruth: ”Of course, my friend, yours is here.

We don’t need to go through such trouble, right?”

Ruth stared intently at the pure white crystal ball presented before him, smiled slightly, and placed both hands on it.

”Ah~” Rosero looked at the streak of color flashing on the white crystal ball and suddenly sighed, ”You still love the Transmutation Series so much!”

Ruth asked in surprise, ”Which mage wouldn’t love their foundation?

Someone who doesn’t love it, how could they ever surpass the Eighth Ring’s limitation?!”

Rosero put away the crystal ball, raised his right hand, and shook his index finger, ”Not really~ When reaching the Ninth Ring, isn’t there a bottleneck when studying magic!

Our Master of Sia Tower said it is because our comprehension of laws is too singular.

The Transmutation Series has reached the end; it may also need auxiliary laws from the Defense System or Shaping System.

I previously heard you took in a Hainarson and thought you understood this point, so specifically went to...”

”I am just interested in the Defensive Magic Array of the Defense Tower,” Ruth shook his head, ”I will think carefully about what you said.

Previously, even if I had the intention, I didn’t have the time!

The Tower of Dark Enigma, those troublesome few hundred years at the front, was enough to bear.

Now it’s better... I definitely have quite some time.”

”That may not be certain,” Mack suddenly interjected, ”I estimate that when the Master of Sia Tower comes out again, we’ll still have to pursue that dragon.

Ruth, if you want to gain more insights from the supreme beings, it’s best not to give up that...”

Ruth shook his head decisively, ”Thank you for your good intentions, but I cannot do that.

Having just entered a new domain, I must protect those who follow me.

I cannot leave my students and subordinates; that’s too selfish... They came with me to Sia Tower, not to fend for themselves.”

”Sia Tower is very safe,” Rosero suddenly laughed, ”Don’t mind Lady Pet, they’re just being foolish... not involving in anything and being opportunistic are two different matters.

The former is understandable, the latter is self-destructive.

Am I right? Hmm?

Pet?”

”Do you have some problem?” Anger flashed across Lady Pet’s beautiful face, ”I haven’t offended you recently, have I?”

”If you could move your feet and leave my sight, I would be happy,” Rosero replied with a cold smile, ”My eyes are almost blinded by you, you know?”

Lady Pet slightly turned, sliding from Ruth’s left to right, moving her body so she appeared more noticeable to Mack, ”Heh... so it’s you.

Really, is there some advantage that I haven’t taken?”

She wasn’t foolish; after realizing that the particularly bright red airship led by the Tower of Dark Enigma, she knew someone was trying to trick her.

Indeed, she didn’t learn about this on the day; she could entirely change the usual red robe or simply not compete with the Ninth Ring Mages within the faction for this welcoming task.

But, regardless of which point, it would be a failure for her.

Lady Pet in Red... Although she couldn’t make White Robe and Black Robe into the symbol of her faction like the two above, at least now, those who somewhat feared her would avoid wearing red in places where she habitually appeared.

Though such authority is quite false, since those who truly don’t fear her wouldn’t wear red robes.

But, at least on the surface, it already creates a certain atmosphere for Lady Pet... red is her symbol.

Moreover, not being able now doesn’t mean she can’t later on.

Being one of the top figures in the Neutral Faction, Lady Pet is confident about her future... Regardless of what stands behind Sia Tower, at least these beings still need these local creatures, and that’s enough.

Lady Pet has always had an open mind... after all, she grew up eating food from Sia Tower.

Given such ambition, she naturally wouldn’t let go of the glory of representing the faction to welcome the Tower of Dark Enigma at such a critical time.

People can’t hold everything... compared to benefits, face can be temporarily set aside.

After all, these mages at Sia Tower gave up so-called dignity a long time ago: at the Ninth Ring, who doesn’t know whether Sia Tower is about salvation or destruction?

Those who continue staying at Sia Tower and even still strive for power benefits with one another, what face do they have left?

It’s just that the identity of those in White Robe is complex, even if those in Black Robe have somewhat eccentric personalities, this so-called Colorful Clothes Sect could live so freely.

For Lady Pet, the most annoying thing is the followers of ’Black Artist’, including these Ninth Rings, always like to take money to act.

She really would rather White Robe side be dissatisfied with Lady Pet over some affair, thus conveniently put her in a difficult position... After being deceived once by White Robe, it would resolve all grievances, and they wouldn’t bother her again.

But, the Black Robe side wouldn’t be dissatisfied with her over minor matters; they deceive her only if paid.

Really... Lady Pet couldn’t help but furrow her brow... after the faction’s heavy losses due to recent troubles, wasn’t it agreed not to involve the other two factions in their internal struggles in the short term!

Why did those two Eighth Ring Mages die, did they forget?

Who on earth is trying to drag her down by playing so big?
