Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Standing quietly by the window, gazing at the rear, Ruth felt a sense of sourness in his heart once again.

This was already the third attack of the chaotic undead.

Judging by the number, which is only half of the first attack, it was clear the mastermind was about to give up.

Whether she thought such attacks were not worth it or simply had no enough undead left to command, it only proved one thing: Aislin was still holding on.

Especially since, in this third attack, which was clearly heading towards its end, ’Aislin’ still hadn’t appeared on the battlefield.

In this situation, Ruth found it rather fitting: those relatively broken few aircraft, which strugglingly connected to the Traveling Magic Array, were completely wrecked in consecutive attacks.

Those undead covered in filth and disgusting marks were clearly different from the normal skeletons and necromancy controlled by the Tower of the Undead’s people.

When they attacked, they would attack the aircraft with the most exposed flaws instinctively, rather than targeting the larger and newer aircraft, which seemed intact but were actually inflexible because of carrying too much.

So, really, it was mainly apprentices and low-rank mages who fell in this assault.

Although a few mid-level magicians also lost their lives, Ruth was quite aware of who exactly caused those deaths.

Oliva’s two patrol teams were equally aware, but after receiving enough compensation, they didn’t bother with the dog-eat-dog among those people.

None of them are good people, just black robbing black.

As for why those perpetrators acted, Oliva wasn’t going to care.

That group didn’t have enough carrying capacity, so the magic materials and large amounts of food in the fallen aircraft naturally went to the patrol teams.

And from Oliva and his subordinates’ perspective, what made those outskirts mages frantically loot had no value to them, whereas these supplies were more useful.

Moreover, they had enough storage space.

Oliva could even guess what they were robbing... With a glance, he knew those who died spent half of their family assets purchasing Soul Elixirs.

The kind Rolando consumed, of considerable value.

The ones who acted must have long planned to use others’ money to buy their own goods; otherwise, they wouldn’t have acted so decisively.

Ruth had long told him how to handle such matters: let them be.

The darker the heart and the deeper the desire, the faster one is corrupted by the Soul Elixir.

They’re all courting death, no need to meddle.

It can also reassure the hidden hand in Sia Tower a little... After all, Ruth Faction’s mages truly use the least Soul Elixirs.

Even though some secretly hoarded, Ruth wasn’t planning to openly stop or condemn those students who always prepared for the unexpected.

Some want to ensure they can die as themselves, while others believe there’s nothing worth reminiscing about before death.

He already clarified all consequences; whichever path they choose is the students’ own matter.

Ruth didn’t think the Sia Tower side would suspect him just because his students didn’t use Soul Elixirs... Which respectable mage freely takes external potions?

Only after observing for a while would there be any movement, that’s normal.

However, having them is better than not.

Ha~

Why am I thinking about these useless things again?

No need to be troubled by unnecessary matters just to distract his feelings... Who doesn’t know Ruth is cautious and never takes extra steps!

Ruth shook his head helplessly, he became like this, truly shaken by Aislin’s continuous persistence.

That girl’s sincerity was felt from her steadfastness in her aircraft till now.

Even though these undead appearances involved many calculations by the mastermind, an unyielding Aislin made those plans fall flat.

Besides really helping Ruth and the others to travel light, truly useless.

As for whether Oliva can earn any good reputation... With his cold attitude, allowing his patrol teams to extort those troublemaking outskirts mages, it’s no surprise he’s criticized behind his back.

But Oliva’s actions were typical of Inner Ring mages’ attitudes towards the black-hearted outer circle.

Ruth softly shook his head... No matter how far Aislin persists, it wasn’t something he could intervene in.

Yet as long as that child was watching him, Ruth silently patted the window, he wouldn’t do anything for now!

-----------------

Indeed, after this assault, no new enemies arrived.

What real thief would dare ambush a team led by a Ninth Ring Archmage under the patrol and guard of Eighth Ring Mages!

But due to previous ambushes, the Tower of Dark Enigma’s flying team had been moving at the slowest pace... After all, part of the aircraft’s energy was used to power the defensive ring.

Originally, only Aislin, influenced by subconsciousness then, wanted to quickly reach Sia Tower.

And now Miss Aislin, who was aware of what happened and fully utilized her willpower to counter herself, wasn’t bothered by the squad’s slow progress.

Her true self within her soul couldn’t care either... If she couldn’t completely shred and crush the fake mask before reaching Sia Tower, her fate probably wouldn’t be good either!

In her current state, this world’s mages might not see through it, but Sia Tower still had Fengo and his subordinates!

Plus, several attendants once favored by Glaysia were there.

The little playboys raised by Glaysia excelled at spreading messages quickly... To win Glaysia’s attention, their skills were almost entirely spent on their, well, primitive traits, naturally honing their eloquence.

Even if Glaysia’s focus wasn’t on this world at the moment, with them there, it would certainly be known swiftly what happened.

Although in her memory there were plenty of beautiful memories with those pretty boys, the current ’Aislin’ could only think of their threat.

She quietly gazed at her soul, trying hard to deduce why this happened... How did a mask capable of being torn off any moment manage to root itself in her soul?

Logically, she confirmed her will was the sole master of this soul... This was her years of research result: placing a shred of her soul as the core, surrounded externally by a pure white transparent soul, like an egg with the outer egg white forming, yet the chick growing would mainly revolve around the yolk.

Glaysia conducted numerous tests with other souls until ensuring a success rate over ninety-five percent, then used it on herself.

Logically, she succeeded, right!

She hadn’t been totally unconscious the entire time... She wasn’t that confident, believing such a long period would have no accidents.

How did it suddenly turn into the current state?

Could it be because... ’Aislin’ furrowed her brows... She indeed heard that eighth ring couldn’t be arbitrarily advanced.

The eighth ring is most closely linked with the World Rules, it easily induces qualitative changes.

But Aislin... this couldn’t really be considered a proper eighth ring, was it not allowed?

’Aislin’ had no clue how to handle the current situation... She actually thought about avoiding eighth ring hazards, forbidding Aislin from learning true eighth ring spells.

In the end, it wasn’t enough, was it?

How can she dissolve all the densely connected small claws between her soul and the outer fake mask once and for all?

She wasn’t actually incapable.

But such actions would excessively attract the attention from Sia Tower!

Damn it... What should she do?!
