Surviving The Fourth Calamity

No matter how slowly Ruth’s team flew, the road was always getting shorter.

The Sia Tower was right there, it wouldn’t back away because they were moving forward.

So, even if they were reluctant, that towering Magic Tower still came into everyone’s view.

Sitting inside his airship, looking at Oliva, who seemed a little uneasy due to Aislin’s continuous silence, Ruth could only sigh lightly, ”As long as Aislin doesn’t do anything, just consider her as still being Aislin.”

”Teacher?” Oliva asked in surprise, ”But she...”

”Things on her side are very complex, too complex for me to intervene.” Oliva said resolutely...With a brain like Oliva’s, it’s best not to think about such intricate matters; he will only make things increasingly troublesome, ”If you don’t want to be drawn into conflicts with big figures that even I dare not provoke, stay away from her, understand?”

”Yes, teacher.” Oliva quickly bowed his head, his eyes showing a thin mist that quickly disappeared...His Eighth Ring was different from Aislin’s; he advanced as an Eighth Ring Mage through his own talents and efforts.

So, although he always acted a bit puzzled, he could still see some things clearly...He just didn’t want to see them clearly.

Just like Aislin’s constant silence.

His indifference didn’t mean he couldn’t see something was amiss.

His personality has never been capable of taking the initiative like Aislin, just like the slight probing he did just now, had already been his greatest effort.

Unfortunately, Ruth mercilessly cut off his probing.

This made Oliva, who still harbored a faint hope, completely give up and dispel his thoughts.

He understood very well that compared to a senior like him who had many conflicts and disagreements with Aislin, Ruth was the one who most hoped Aislin would still be Aislin.

But, even with such an obvious sense of oddness, Ruth still maintained such a firm attitude...

Oliva gently closed his eyes, deciding never to mention this matter again, just to endure it day by day!

Although he couldn’t decide whether this kind of torment or a straightforward end was more painful...But somehow, even the pain gave him a fleeting sense of being alive.

”Should we inform Gilbert?” Oliva suddenly recalled something: he knew the other junior disciples only had some suspicions regarding Aislin...But Aislin always had many issues, and her periodic relapses only made them treat her like in the past, before any confirmation.

This was also because Aislin hadn’t rushed out to ’help’ him eradicate the undead during this time.

Among Ruth’s students, there wasn’t anyone foolish enough to openly accuse someone just because they were suspicious; they would only keep vigilant silently in their hearts but would never reveal it.

But Gilbert, Oliva was certain, that guy must have discovered something, otherwise...

”Did you go and eavesdrop on Gilbert?” Ruth immediately knew what his student had done, ”You, and Aislin, what exactly is wrong with you two?

Why can’t you stop paying attention to what Gilbert is doing?

Indeed he is a type that I admire, but not to the extent of affecting you, right?

Isn’t Gilbert known to be purely academic?

You two aren’t even on the same path!”

”Maybe, it’s just that guy naturally has a face that’s easy to dislike?” Even Oliva himself was somewhat puzzled, ”For some reason, he just gives me a faint sense of threat.

Of course, I know, unless absolutely necessary, Gilbert would definitely prefer to study his runes and arrays.

Moreover, he might be the most promising among your students in the future...But after returning to normal, he just gives an indescribably faint sense...I really can’t put my finger on that feeling.”

Ruth glanced at Oliva...Back then, among so many students, he had chosen this overly steady and honest Oliva at first sight because he noticed Oliva had a slight sensitivity to Soul Department spells.

But later he vaguely realized, perhaps, Oliva’s so-called sensitivity to the Soul Department was because he had a flaw in his brain, a kind of imperfect beauty.

This so-called steadiness was actually due to Oliva’s indecision, and his outstanding talent gave him a sense of intuitive judgment to compensate for this unchangeable bad habit.

It’s just that when it came time to make the final decision, he could choose the safer option based on that slight sense of crisis felt in the soul.

Otherwise, Oliva wouldn’t have become an Eighth Ring Mage so easily.

When Ruth discovered this, he couldn’t suppress his impulse and studied Oliva’s life repeatedly...He almost thought he had made a mistake and that Oliva was the one blessed by the World Will.

Unfortunately, he later found out that it was probably because Oliva’s attribute in the Law inclined towards the Enchantment Department.

Supplementing what he didn’t have with another way, actually fitting quite well with his talents.

However, Gilbert Hainarson’s ability to evoke sensitivity in him and Aislin was quite normal...People blessed in such a way often attract inexplicable attention.

The Hainarson Clan is almost the last group of humans associated with the World Will left behind by the Defense Tower now...That’s also why no one thinks this clan bears the Defense Tower’s legacy.

That group just prefers to face death with a smile, not really crazy; they would not let Hainarson, who grabs attention wherever he goes, carry their heritage.

Even though the aura on Gilbert had become very faint, such Archmages already connected with World Rules, especially those with a sensitivity to Soul Power, could still sense it.

Ruth just didn’t expect that Oliva would also...He thought that sensitivity had disappeared with this guy’s promotion to Eighth Ring!

”Gilbert, no, should say, people from the Hainarson Clan still have the aura of the Defense Tower.” Ruth thought for a while before speaking slowly, ”Back then, the Defense Tower was eradicated under the order given in the name of the Goddess.

The Hainarson was merely a hapless victim drawn into it, and although publicly exonerated, the aversion of the World Master, once slightly related, is not so easily dispelled.

Russell and Felis are much better off.”

”Did Gilbert’s previous adventure failure also relate to this?” Oliva suddenly asked, ”After all, soul shock during apprenticeship indeed poses some risks, but cases as severe as Gilbert’s are very rare.”

”Maybe...who knows?” Ruth casually made up a plausible excuse to gloss over Gilbert’s peculiarity, ”You don’t need to tell Gilbert anything, either.”

He couldn’t help but sneer, ”Gilbert never needs others to help him think about such low-level issues.”

Oliva helplessly scratched his head, knowing his teacher was venting his displeasure at him!

Otherwise, Ruth rarely compared others’ strengths to his own weaknesses...Weaknesses are relative to the individual; why compare with those who do well?

Ruth never insisted that his students turn their weaknesses into strengths, as long as they could barely catch up with the average level...Compensating for congenital defects to this extent requires a large cost to begin with.

And those who achieve excellence are either naturally tough or it wasn’t their weakness in the first place, merely a bad habit developed.

But Oliva also knows that to Ruth, the only ones on whom he can vent grievances so unrestrainedly are also him and Aislin.

His teacher has always been a cautious person. He indeed scolds students but only when they’ve truly erred.

Displacing anger is typically something that only happens with him and Aislin.

And now, it’s only him left.

”We’re almost there.” He couldn’t help but look up, ”Sia Tower is really white!

White so pure...yet not reflective.”

”In the era when it was built, purely white magic materials were quite abundant.” Ruth said with a hint of confusion, ”It’s just that others can’t ensure such purity exists forever, but why are you focusing on such a strange point?

With magic, does one need to ask why?”

-----------------

”Teacher.” In the front black spaceship, Carpenter asked the same question seriously, ”Such bright white color, why isn’t it reflective?

Logically, that tower should become multicolored instead...”

Hill blinked and then thoughtfully said, ”There’s a light-absorbing array.”

”I don’t understand...” Carpenter tilted his head, curiously asked, ”Doesn’t such an array require energy too?

For such a tall Magic Tower, to maintain the current effect, how much Energy Baryte would be needed!

The Sia Tower, though rich...

How likely is it for Archmages to watch this Magic Tower and still willingly regard them as their Master?”

In an energy-deficient world to make such an ostentatious move, it would definitely provoke many people’s dissatisfaction, even if only privately.

Hill hadn’t considered this because for the Princess of Hell, such energy was insignificant.

And he likely had a common language with the Princess of Hell in this regard.

But why didn’t Asmodeus stop his girl from doing something like this?
