Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Nicholson raised his head and pondered for a while: ”Hainarson?”

”The Hainarson Clan’s luck isn’t because they hail from the Defense Tower.” Ruth couldn’t help but pinch his forehead, ”Rather, their fate was interrupted by the unexpected fall of the Defense Tower, and for some reason, it didn’t leave.

Although it didn’t attach to someone, it’s... bewildering that it didn’t drift away.

This matter is indeed strange, because, generally speaking, when the assigned fate abruptly falls mid-path, it seeks a new owner.

No one knows why the fate of Hainarson didn’t depart.

But because of this accident, their family could survive within the noble families affiliated with the Defense Tower.

Ha~

Being dramatically diminished is different from being completely eradicated.

Yet this is an accident, not inevitability; if the Defense Tower could leverage the fate, it wouldn’t have so readily embraced death.

They don’t fear death; they don’t greet death joyfully, more like madmen who haven’t completely collapsed in spirit.”

”Indeed, if I were one of the Defense Tower people, I wouldn’t choose a family related to myself as a backup either.” Nicholson thought for a moment and nodded in agreement, ”Then how can they ensure their legacy...”

”They did what they had to do, whether the legacy truly passes on or not, it follows the will of heaven.” Ruth suddenly squinted and smiled.

Nicholson looked at him curiously: ”Why do you seem to agree?

I recall a few years ago, you were still annoyed because the Main Magic Circle of the Tower of Dark Enigma couldn’t be activated!”

He glanced downwards: ”What a pity, why doesn’t the Tower of Dark Enigma acknowledge someone as talented as Gilbert?

His Mental Sea was unstable before, so it’s understandable. But now that it’s restored, why isn’t it enough?

I remember the Main Magic Circle doesn’t necessarily require pure Soul Department talents to acknowledge them!

Otherwise, you wouldn’t have the qualifications to inherit the Main Tower.”

Ruth shook his head: ”Maybe it’s because of Gilbert’s age.”

He couldn’t help but sigh: ”You should understand, the Archmage who founded the Magic Tower utilized so many means to seek an heir, rather than a Controller.

The older one gets, the more stable the Mental Sea becomes, leading to poorer integration with the Magic Tower.

Furthermore...”

Ruth couldn’t restrain his fiery temper, spoke coldly: ”Who is as smart as you, dares not set an age limit, and only looks at the Mental Sea!

Do you truly believe all your heirs are peerless geniuses, whom no one dares to offend?

Whoever is strong can control the Magic Tower... Ha... Is there still a Magic Tower that can exist to be passed on in this world?”

’Heh heh’, Nicholson laughed twice awkwardly.

Indeed, he was foolish.

Ruth is an exception because he was registered under the Main Tower as an apprentice and learned meditation related to the Main Tower... When his branch was completely wiped out, the Main Tower naturally considered him an heir after confirming his Mental Sea was relatively stable and strong. Moreover, several permissions are unavailable for Ruth to use.

Otherwise, the Tower of Dark Enigma wouldn’t have been so pitiful over the years.

The Main Tower accumulates a lot of energy, waiting for the arrival of the true heir.

Nicholson shook his head in dismay: ”I’m not truly foolish, I merely can’t find an heir.

I always feel that in this world, no one possesses prophecy system talents anymore.

Can your Felis be of any use?”

”He’s already a Mage, although he learned the old meditation methods of the Tower of Dark Enigma, but... Gilbert said the Law he used to establish his foundation is Shaping Spells.” Ruth shook his head, ”Moreover, the talent isn’t particularly high.

The Tower of Dark Enigma is unlikely to acknowledge a child like him.

I’m just trying casually, without expecting any result.

My hopes lie in the future... Isn’t Felis going to stay in the Tower of Dark Enigma?

Perhaps one day, he may receive a student he likes, and then...”

Nicholson certainly understood the implication of Ruth’s words: A Mage’s favorite student often shares some similarities with themselves in a certain aspect.

The most probable similarity is in their special talent... the attraction caused by the same Law.

Felis himself has little hope of inheriting the Tower of Dark Enigma, but he might have a chance to find a suitable disciple... As long as Ruth lives long enough, the Main Magic Circle of the Tower of Dark Enigma won’t completely shut down.

Moreover, due to its concealment, even if such a student is accepted, it likely won’t attract the attention of the Sia Tower.

It is indeed a good strategy.

After all, aren’t they hopeful again!

As long as they are alive, even if they keep entangling endlessly with the Sia Tower to the end of time... The best future Nicholson foresaw was merely their own resilient survival in the shadows, not in a vast world of brilliant sunlight... This way, an heir received through such a method could actually be protected!

Nicholson quickly sparked interest.

He always felt that the reason his student ended up like they did wasn’t just because the child was ensnared by a somewhat chaotic prophecy and lost sanity.

Rather from the beginning, the prophecy he received was misleading.

Although Nicholson doesn’t care much about many things, he is quite aware of his student whom he truly values... That child’s desire was never for power or money.

Though easily distracted by female allure, that child is somewhat naive... When Nana was beside him, he probably didn’t look at anyone else.

Therefore, wanting to weave desires within the prophecies he saw that would make the child reckless, even defying his teacher’s cold warnings and Nana’s gentle dissuasion, definitely requires profound understanding of him.

Even Nana couldn’t achieve that understanding.

Ha~ This is why Nicholson didn’t bother with his family after his student’s fall.

The one who could manipulate the child’s heart so accurately is only his ever-important family.

Otherwise, Nicholson wouldn’t suddenly recruit people recklessly... So many people that no one can see clearly, can Sia Tower still find the student Nicholson truly wanted to protect?

They might be able to control a family, but can they manage these people’s families, even a vast illegitimate group, altogether?

Ha, truly with such abilities, why bother playing intrigues!

Yet, Nicholson mused for a while: The most important issue is he hasn’t truly found a student he desires yet.

So, he keeps favoring one and then the other... Although he indeed values them for a period, compared to the child he once truly cherished, Nicholson quickly loses interest.

Of course, this also relates to that child quickly losing sanity amid considerable jealousy and overtures.

Nicholson’s students and descendants are too many; despite their mutual disdain, when faced with a common enemy, during Nicholson’s preference of a new favorite, they would join forces too.

This results in Nicholson’s long struggle, not only confusing both enemies and allies about his intentions but also putting himself in a fog.

Yet, Ruth’s approach seems better!

You see, if Nicholson truly couldn’t control his favoritism towards certain esteemed students, it would be better to not know them from the start.

After all, to him, what he seeks is simply a prophecy system heir, not Nicholson’s own!

Indeed, it’s these cold-blooded fellows like Ruth who are smart, discerning inside from outside from the start!

Ruth gazed at Nicholson’s ever-changing expressions, his countenance equally inscrutable... He realized what this bastard was pondering!

Indeed, the existence of Kamente Tower is essential.

-----------------

Kamente Tower stood in the hall, curiously watching Rommel by the window.

His usual expressionless face was rare to find full of melancholy.

”Ah... what is all this?” Rommel suddenly turned, ”Isn’t Gilbert a noble?

What’s with that aesthetic?”
