Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Although Hill couldn’t figure it out for the moment, he would never lower his guard against Asmodeus, who always layered scheme upon scheme in everything he did.

”Sia Tower is not short of energy.” He answered slowly. ”Nor is it short of subordinates.

What they want is simply everyone’s submission; they don’t care what people think in their hearts.

Isn’t the Tower of Dark Enigma the clearest example?”

Russell blinked. ”So... there’s actually no special reason why this tower was built in this shape?”

At first he’d thought the same as Carpenter: that building the tower in this particular way had some purpose... aimed at some side, something they needed to pay attention to.

But from the teacher’s words, it could be heard that the Tower Master simply wanted a Magic Tower like this.

Hill shook his head... Although Glaysia also had plenty of plots and schemes, she would never use her own residence as a piece on the board.

Plots could always be devised later, but living uncomfortably was unacceptable.

And after living too long in the gray, cold Hell that favored blood-red and black, her favorite color was white.

Of course, if it was her traveling palace, then the white palace walls would also be inlaid with all kinds of silver and pink Pearl and Jade.

For a place like Sia Tower, where she only came occasionally, she was already being very restrained.

And in this kind of small matter, the Lord of Hell had never demanded that his daughter change this habit.

But from this, Hill could also glimpse a sliver of Asmodeus’s confidence... so back then, the fact that he hadn’t chosen to turn around and run really had been a very correct decision.

Hill was now somewhat suspicious that anyone trying to leave this heavily sealed Universe, no matter what method they used, would in the end have only one possible landing point: the ninth layer of Hell, Nassus.

Since Asmodeus tolerated his daughter’s faint little hobby, he would definitely have thought through how to patch the weaknesses created by this hobby, and made sure he could do it.

All his tolerances could never violate his principles.

In a certain sense, Hill had always felt that... compared to those Gods of Order, Asmodeus was actually the most resolute follower of the Law of Order.

He truly committed every evil, sly and treacherous, but everything he did—even if at the time it looked dazzling and dizzying—once you slowly studied it afterward, you could still find a single line of logic.

To make every single thing he does appear purposeful—what a terrifying existence that is!

Whenever Hill thought that there actually existed a being who, in hundreds of thousands of years of life, had never done anything purely on a whim, he felt it was horrifying.

In contrast, those embodiments of pure Chaos who never did anything with any logic were, in a way, easier to understand.

Russell suddenly glanced at his teacher, then used his eyes to signal to Carpenter, who still didn’t quite get it... He understood, and he’d thought of a reason to agree with ”Gilbert’s” words.

It was just that he couldn’t tell Carpenter for now.

Carpenter tilted her head, then lightly leaned back against the sofa and obediently lifted her cup to take a sip of water: she didn’t need to know what the reason actually was; it was enough to know that there really was such a reason.

This was the tacit understanding the siblings had built up over so many years, and Carpenter was willing to keep getting along this way.

From the bottom of his heart, Russell let out a soundless sigh: he really had guessed the reason.

It seemed their respected teacher knew the mastermind behind the scenes very well.

Although he didn’t know how strong the enemy over there really was, there was one thing Russell could be sure of... in status, especially in wealth, those two were probably in the same tier.

Just like how Oliva would never take the Low Rank materials from those outskirts mages’ Airships, Aislin—who held a status equal to his—flying at his side, wouldn’t even lower her head for a glance.

Whereas those Low Rank materials were still quite valuable to Russell; even if he might give them up for various reasons, he could never feel nothing about it.

By the same token, something that could drive Oliva to madness was, in their teacher’s eyes, worthless trash.

Russell couldn’t help but furrow his brow: once again, he understood how important ”Gilbert” considered that constant reminder to him and Carpenter—to always act in accordance with their identity.

Looking at the tiny black dot speeding toward them from atop the white Sia Tower, Russell clenched his fists.

-----------------

”Teacher...” Oliva had of course noticed the people coming out of Sia Tower as well. ”Do you need me to...”

”Didn’t I tell you? Same as before!” Ruth cast him a harsh glance. ”Haven’t we already said that all dealings with Sia Tower are to be handled by Aislin, who takes the lead?

She hasn’t even tried to steal your credit for dealing with the Undead!

Oliva, don’t be too greedy!”

Oliva’s eyes couldn’t help but widen, then he answered in a daze, ”Yes, Teacher, I... will be careful.”

Although Oliva’s reactions were a bit slow, after so many years together, he could still quickly hear the deeper meaning in Ruth’s voice whenever his tone turned especially harsh: once they were near Sia Tower, they could no longer place complete trust in the Isolation Array in their Airship.

They had to be very careful with what they said.

-----------------

At that same moment, the Aislin in the red Airship came to an agreement with ”Aislin.”

Although the two of them would forever be enemies to each other, they could still temporarily cooperate when facing a lethal crisis.

After all, Glaysia was the one who directly Controlled the fate of the two of them.

As long as the Succubus Queen noticed that this Soul experiment of hers might fail, she absolutely wouldn’t show mercy; the instant they met, she would slap them to death on the spot.

Even if Fengo noticed something was wrong, it would be useless.

As long as the incriminating evidence was destroyed, even if the Hell Prosecutor could deduce everything, it still wouldn’t matter.

Asmodeus only looked at evidence—especially when dealing with his own daughter. Without proof directly slapped onto her face, his girl would forever be a good child.

As for whether he would secretly deal with Glaysia afterward, that was another matter... in any case, it would be Fengo—who had accused Glaysia without catching real leverage—who would suffer for it.

”Aislin” had no desire to have struggled for so many years, finally making it to this day after so much effort, only to be finished off before she’d even seen much of the sky.

Aislin felt the same... She had her own convictions and didn’t care about perishing together with ”Aislin,” but if she could continue to live, it wasn’t as if she didn’t want to.

So at this moment, the two finally chose reconciliation: a person’s head could be split into two parts; they could each temporarily take one half.

There was no choice; ”Aislin” had to show herself in public.

But how could Aislin dare allow herself to be completely hidden deep in the Mental Sea?

By then, that hidden state might directly turn into imprisonment, and imprisonment might then directly turn into the gallows... No, that would practically be guaranteed to happen.

Although Aislin did Control those little claws sunk into the Soul, she knew very well that what the true Controller of the Soul could do far exceeded her.

If she slipped up even a little, she would be utterly annihilated.

”Aislin” also didn’t dare continue her arrogance... Aislin, certain to die, was afraid of nothing; she, however, was not.
