Surviving The Fourth Calamity

List would never doubt Hill’s judgment on plants, so he quickly drifted to the screen to observe.

However, before he could discover anything, he heard Hill’s miserable moan: ”Ah... Is this a fan of the Rose?”

”Sir?” List was stunned for a moment before suddenly realizing something, nearly drifting onto the giant screen and pressing his face against the cactus in the lower left corner.

”Metamorphosis... complete metamorphosis, such words truly aren’t just insults,” Hill sighed, pressing his forehead. ”The nicknames of the Undead Tribe, especially those famous guys, always... reflect their most basic humanity.”

”It’s really... insect eggs...” List almost only let out a breath.

After all, the main observation object of the giant screen is the battle on the Rainbow Bridge, and the cactus’s position isn’t very clear. Only Hill’s excellent eyesight could notice the oddities.

List, needless to say, as long as he observes carefully, he can definitely see clearly.

He rarely hesitated a bit... probably because the intelligent hub was calculating how many insect eggs there were but couldn’t figure it out for a while.

After all, that cactus tree is as tall as two floors, and although the insect eggs aren’t invisible to the naked eye like the Mutated Silk Spider, they are about the size of millet grains.

”Can’t calculate clearly, but tens of thousands should be no problem,” List said softly, turning to glance at the slightly exhausted Hill, ”Sir, you... don’t need to be like this?

You’ve seen plenty of spiders, scorpions, and crawlers?”

”Night butterflies may not look good, but... achieving complete metamorphosis is a rare, exceptionally perfect species,” Hill sat up as calmly as possible. ”Moreover, night butterfly larvae, known for their strong life force pests... if the energy is sufficient and the level is not high, ordinary biological level night butterflies can complete the entire process of reproduction within ten minutes after metamorphosis.

Then the big butterfly can live for three years if food is abundant.”

He sighed deeply: ”Moreover, the most troublesome thing is, we don’t know where this night butterfly mated.”

”What... does that mean?” List couldn’t react immediately.

”High-level night butterflies are called Butterfly Queen Bees... This doesn’t mean they look like bees, but it means they can, like Queen Bees, mate once and lay eggs for life.”

”Ah... weren’t you saying it came later?” List gently comforted him, ”The insects of Teraxil aren’t that strong, and here in Aesces, it’s at most the Lord of Earth!”

”No need to force yourself to comfort me,” Hill rolled over on the sofa, ”Undead Tribe members who haven’t gained enough military exploits in Toril can’t possibly be here.”

Hill silently rolled over again, looking up at the sky... Rose’s Mutated Silk Spider, the Set scorpion hiding behind the Lord of Earth, and the Undead Tribe night butterfly with unknown mixed genes... Could it be the grand finale this time is for everyone to be swallowed by bugs?

Hill rolled back and forth on the sofa, slowly covering his face with the half-woven cloak: ”Hey, List, comfort me a bit.”

”Hey? What...” List was suddenly startled and quickly spoke, ”It’s okay, it’s okay, whatever you think of, as long as you don’t say it out loud, it doesn’t count as setting a flag!

Saying it is the FLAG!”

List completely didn’t intend to ask what Hill thought of... In-depth knowledge of species diversity and slightly extraordinary associative ability are indeed among Hill’s strengths, but in certain special times, like now, it can only be considered a crisis.

List hesitated for a few seconds, but still spoke: ”Sir, you always can’t hold back your words in front of close ones.

To avoid any overly... transcendent scenes, I’ll first go back to the Magic Tower to organize things?

There’s a small part of the data that I think is somewhat related to Teraxil?

Mr. Fran and Mr. Adrian probably also want those things, so I’ll organize it in the Half-plane first, alright?”

Hill looked at the Tower Spirit wanting to flee and pouted discontentedly.

List pursed his lips, maintaining the most elegant butler posture... Hill had rarely shown this kind of cute childlike appearance.

Quickly understanding List’s words and knowing the Tower Spirit wouldn’t feel anything seeing such scenes, Hill still let List escape.

List almost vanished instantly... He indeed wasn’t afraid of bugs, but he was afraid of Hill.

If he were beside Hill during his Little Bear rampage and rolling frenzy, List would keep muttering and repeating nonstop, and even transfer his anger... like a grizzly suddenly angry and smacking the nearby big tree until fury subsides.

The main reason for List’s caution was that Hill’s disgust for night butterfly larvae wasn’t because of their ugliness, but because of the deeply-rooted memory of picking mulberries in the distant past, resulting in hands full of prickly caterpillars making him cry painfully after being stung.

Although Hill wouldn’t face such a situation now, List already noticed from the excessive haste of words and overly obvious performances.

No need to think, List could guess Hill insisting on watching the whole scene would show certain behavior.

Taking a glance at the little light ord wandering in the Magic Tower, List was unusually kind: ”Purwell, come and help me organize various records in the laboratory, especially the records of weaving silk.”

”Eh?” The little whale swayed happily in the air, ”Isn’t this the duty of you, the great butler?

What’s it got to do with me, the little tram?

I’m not going!”

Then the little whale drove his little light ord singing happy songs to leave: ”I’m the happy little driver, though without a car.

I’m the happy little driver, waiting for my car.

With a car I go to work, without a car I wander around!”

List genuinely felt that Hill not controlling Purwell’s range of making friends wasn’t good... With so many members of the Undead Tribe, why were Purwell’s friends obviously from the Youth Journey of the Wenjian World?

Watching the little whale floating away with an I-don’t-have-to-do-anything attitude, List smiled with the corners of his mouth: ”Today, there seems to be a little accident!

Even Hill feels a bit bothered.

So, Purwell, you’d better not go to the terrace to find Hill.

He seems a bit annoyed.”

”Got it... List mommy!” Purwell answered impatiently and bounced around in the Magic Tower.

List sorted out Hill’s words... The night butterflies should have hatched today; otherwise, those eggs wouldn’t move.

If the energy is abundant, the insects will indeed appear, but the larval stage won’t be too long... of course, referring to the first batch born by that big butterfly... soon those little bugs will begin to metamorphose.

The most important thing is what happens afterward, when this batch of tens of thousands of butterflies appears, the cactus and other lower-level cacti in the courtyard will probably be almost done for.

Afterwards, the larvae hatched from the night butterflies will likely have a longer larval stage... meaning a landscape covered with prickly caterpillars, the ugliest kind.

Hill will certainly see regardless of the angle he chooses on the giant screen.

But night butterflies, besides being able to eat and reproduce, have the greatest ability to virtualize... They have no offensive skills, all are survival skills.

As long as Aesces doesn’t expel them, they can probably survive till the end.

Asmodeus hasn’t even cleaned the spider webs, the scorpions lurking under the sand haven’t acted, presumably, they won’t care about these butterflies.

And for Aesces, these night butterflies that can only survive in this oasis have less harm than the Mutated Silk Spider, he probably won’t care.

Ah... the only victim is probably Hill.

Yet due to Hill’s somewhat precious self-esteem, he is unlikely to make such a demand of Aesces... Hill doesn’t plan to stay here long either.

List thought Hill would undoubtedly be very irritable tomorrow.

Looking again at the carefree little whale humming songs, List narrowed his eyes and smiled, turned and walked into the laboratory, directing puppets to send all records, including some experimental equipment, into the Half-plane.

Finally, he quietly locked the door to the Half-plane... Two winding, impassable gallery walls appeared in the corridor between the Light Gate of the Half-plane and the lobby on the bottom floor of the Magic Tower.

”Ah...” Unknown to his Tower Spirit’s complete protection efforts, Hill was still rolling on the sofa, strengthening his mental construction.
