Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1721: Chapter 298: Hill’s Heist

Hill was a little surprised.

So the only Earth Divine Authority Gaia left behind was formless Chaos, and rot.

The essence of Darkness should have been devoured by the Lord of Hell, and the death-leaning, disintegration-leaning part of Chaos had also vanished without a trace.

Hill suspected Asmodeus simply looked down on what was left; after all, he really is quite committed to evil order.

But Hill also suspected he’d tossed in a bit of Feeblemind Spell and Energy Absorption Technique, otherwise how could Gaia be stupid enough to use the Law of decay on an illusory leaf?

And even forget all those subordinates behind her whose bodies were covered in wounds.

Hill could practically see them already—those brushed by the black mist, their wounds rapidly rotting!

He frowned slightly, had just lifted his hand when he heard a faint voice transmission: “Hill, don’t go and kill all those people. My lovely children so rarely get blood and flesh this much to their taste!”

Hill’s brows knit tighter. He touched the Gold and Silver Bells at the tip of his hair… it seemed Rose had found the Lily Vine he’d left in the cave.

The Lily of the Valley twitched, telling him that the black spider who had suddenly appeared at its branch in the outer mine had disappeared directly into the Shadow.

Hill quickly sketched the mine’s terrain map in his Mental Sea… a bit strange, he’d hidden several Lily Vine stalks in the inner caves too!

Why did Rose choose the one furthest away?

Then he froze for a moment, turned his head to look toward the mine entrance near the military camp.

The “Old Age Striking King,” who had already scored a sweeping victory, was standing there holding a green Holy Scripture flashing with Golden Light, chanting under his breath.

And through the wide-open mine gate, a full moon shone in quietly… the posture was so familiar, and it clearly wasn’t the same crescent moon hanging in the sky outside.

Looked like the Undead Tribe had already sealed off Rose’s path into Cain Valley.

The Mutated Silk Spiders only seemed scary thanks to their concealment; faced with this kind of terrifying blockade, they probably couldn’t even get a single spider hair through.

No wonder Rose had suddenly bolted outward.

The two of them working together, with Shaer watching like a tiger in the dark—having just been toyed with, the Spider Queen definitely didn’t want to deal with them.

In the cave, Gaia had finally realized her own stupidity. She abandoned the rotting fog and instead flicked her hand, throwing a Death Cloud Technique at the walls.

She wasn’t doing this because she’d gone berserk.

It was because many plants and minerals—and Illusion Techniques—wouldn’t be affected by the Law of decay, but the Death Cloud Technique could get around that. A Law Controller like Gaia could even make these clouds seep into metallic ore.

She knew very well that Hill was definitely nearby at this moment, and that everyone around them except the two of them had to be enemies.

Moreover, Death Cloud Technique cast by Deities was very hard to dispel, even for a Mage as powerful as Hill.

However, the premise of Death Cloud Technique looking invincible was that your physique and toughness weren’t up to par.

Giant Dragons above Level 20 could rely on their Dragon Skin alone to be immune to this thing.

Let alone Hill.

That sickly yellow-green cloud couldn’t even fulfill Gaia’s last hope… She hadn’t expected the Death Cloud Technique to do much damage to Hill, who also belonged to the Earth attribute, but as long as it had even the slightest effect, she’d be able to pinpoint Hill’s location.

At that point, she would unleash her big move.

Gaia didn’t dare overdo it.

Although she’d used those past years to chain herself to the World of Aesces with several links, that still didn’t mean they were truly one. That kind of sneaky behavior was only being tolerated for now; it didn’t mean that when Aesces got the chance, it wouldn’t use the World Rules to boot her out.

Even though this was only one of her incarnations, the recent situation had left her a bit lost. Gaia hoped she could leave herself a few more backup plans.

Hill tilted his head… of course he understood what Gaia was thinking.

Faced with the current situation, Gaia still thought she had a chance to succeed?

Did she have some Divine Artifact in her hand she could use?

Gaia’s most famous and most powerful Divine Artifact was the Bottle of Life.

But having lost the positive aspect of Earth Force, she should have long since lost her control over that artifact.

Unless that thing had turned into a Bottle of Death.

Right, she seemed very intent on finding his whereabouts!

Hill’s eyes widened slightly… could it be it had mutated into the mutton-fat jade pure bottle owned by Silver-Horned King?

But she didn’t need him to respond, as long as she could see him?

Hill mulled it over for a while, then silently pulled out a large black cloak with rainbow-hued veins… hooded, long-sleeved, a bit like a trench coat but looser and larger.

It could wrap Hill from head to toe, covering even a single strand of hair.

He’d woven this out of Xilaite Steel during those boring days in Toril when he could only watch other people shine.

It had originally been a sudden whim… he wanted to make a piece of clothing that could absorb all Spells, but preferably without drawing too much attention.

Xilaite Steel was usually used to make armor, but it was far too conspicuous.

Under sunlight, it was like a rainbow ball.

For most people, this material is a bit too hard, but for Hill, although hand-twisting it is indeed a bit tiring, turning a 2-meter-long steel plate into spin-able thread isn’t that hard.

After all, it’s not like the thread needs to be as thin as a hair, right?

Making it as thick as a hemp fiber is still pretty easy.

However, the cloak that cost him half a month of time to finish really turned out pretty powerful… so powerful that even the Three Gods watching couldn’t help but borrow it for a closer look, and even Lansendel tried it on.

But it turned out completely different from what Hill had imagined—being able to stand unmoved no matter how the north wind or any other wind blew.

Although this cloak is very heavy… after all, steel thread is still steel in terms of weight, but Hill felt he could easily make it look weightless.

He could even carry a mountain on his back!

Yet the actual effect… after Lansendel put it on and tried it, he immediately sprawled on the ground, kicking his legs and rolling around, laughing like a madman.

Multicolored light would be triggered under any spell, and it even worked like one of those disco mirror balls at a ball… the spotlight can change with the beat of the music, and this thing can too.

Spells from different schools would evoke different colors of light, and depending on the energy Level of the spell, the beams would lengthen or shorten.

The spells were indeed absorbed; it could even swallow Shaer’s Divine Arts, like the Shadow Whip, but… they all turned into rhythm lights.

Hill thought, he really might as well wear full-body armor made of Xilaite Steel.

This thing was so bizarre that even Lansendel, after curiously examining it for a long while, did not open his mouth to ask Hill to make him a rainbow outfit to buy!

The long robe Hill had woven from Red Gold and Josse Garden Heart-guard Cable, shining with Golden Light—Lansendel had traded one of his personally crafted Dawn Stones for a piece of it… and that stone had artificially added Dawn Spells and the Shield of Lansendel on it!

Hill had thought this Aosteel Cloak would just end up hanging in the wardrobe to be looked at!

Also, most importantly, there would be no onlookers who could record images.

Anyway, the biggest blabbermouth, Lansendel, already knew about this piece of clothing, and besides… William had definitely already heard Shaer mention it!

Hill clenched his fist, and with a ruthless heart, put it on himself.

People! Your little life comes first.

Besides, he clearly held an absolute advantage here—if he got stuffed into some crappy bottle because he got careless for a moment… even if he could escape, that would be way more embarrassing than wearing this cloak.

Also, just thinking that there might be all kinds of unknown filthy liquids in there made Hill, who had a bit of a cleanliness streak, feel uncomfortable all over.

“My Lord… my Lord…” The few subordinates of Gaia in the cave finally couldn’t endure it anymore. “We beg you, please have mercy on us poor things… we really can’t hold on any longer!”

When Gaia turned back, she couldn’t help but take a step backward.

After all, almost all of their wounds had festered to a certain degree, nearly catching up to those rotting Sea Monsters out on the ocean.

The Ivan she had been shielding behind her had long since vanished without a trace… between staying among this group of people whose entire bodies were rotting to accompany them to the bitter end, and charging into those red leaves for a quick death and quick reincarnation, Ivan resolutely chose to return to the city.

His little filter for Gaia had already almost completely disappeared; once Ivan knew the Paintbrush and the others had all returned to Basia, he no longer even considered staying to wait for any outcome.

Even though Gaia was still full of confidence, Ivan no longer believed in her that much.

Of course, if Gaia did manage to pull it off in the end, then at least he would have completed his mission… it was just that he had been too nervous and failed to dodge that inexplicable patch of red leaves that had drifted over to him.

Gaia hadn’t yet thought about Ivan’s little scheming, since her subordinates were about to die too.

She still needed these people… after the Ismael Family expelled her, fewer and fewer people in Danboro were willing to work for her.

Especially the servants.

Gaia had never expected that the first to betray her wouldn’t be the Nobles and Mages who gathered around her for profit, but those weak servants who weren’t even qualified to be called Professionals.

Despicable wretches really don’t understand what loyalty means!

Having no concept of sunk cost, Gaia could only choose to throw out a gray-white stone.

Hill quickly waved his hand, and a vine shot out, whipping that stone toward the rock wall.

“Damn! Put it down!” Gaia roared in fury, “I’ll kill you! I’ll flay you alive!”

But the blood-red field chains she kept unleashing couldn’t even knock off a single leaf from that dark-green vine.

Hill pulled out his little notebook and carefully wrote down: the Wailing Chains that can inflict damage and hinder movement can be released unconditionally by Gaia.

They must be dodged, but they shouldn’t do much damage to an Earth Bear; the main concern is defending against other attacks after being slowed.

After all, this Spell does blunt-force damage.

Luckily, for now, the main thing about Gaia that made Hill wary was that potentially changeable Divine Artifact; her own capabilities were still pretty easy to deal with.

However, for a purely Magic Profession, she could be a bit troublesome.

After all, most of her spells ignored defenses, and Magic Shields didn’t help much.

Those with thick hides wouldn’t have to worry too much.

Then he carefully received the gray stone, which had already been packed by the Murderous Vine into a Subartifact-level Sealing Box.

Heh heh~ He really hadn’t expected that one day he’d actually fancy something in an enemy’s hands.
