Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1730: Chapter 307: Is He Serious?

List looked at Hill, who had a face full of emotions, and couldn’t help but ask, ”Sir, you seem to have no fondness for this city and the people in it... why...”

Hill pursed his lips: ”You’re right.

But how to say it, when I saw the Earl with three children, I couldn’t resist observing for a moment.

Moreover, I initially quite liked this Earl.

Simply put, although his attitude towards the children wasn’t what I initially thought, at least he was still a normal lord.

Fortunately, I’m not wrong about everything.”

Hill recalled his initial impression of this family and couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh, really... lives with too many reversals truly make an observer feel like a fool.

The only thing that can still give him solace is the current scene: this former Count Stelter indeed is willing to fight to protect his people.

The bit of goodwill he felt towards his subjects wasn’t false.

The Undead Tribe is actually okay; even those on the Eden side, under William’s control, will somewhat hold back when facing civilians.

However, the Moon Clan, under Triton’s control, will only seize the opportunity for a few more moves... especially after discovering the Undead Tribe near civilians strives not to use full-scale attacks.

This former Earl first ordered his eldest son to protect the retreating civilians and then voluntarily stood at the rear... although he wouldn’t dive into the battlefield’s center to save some unfortunate civilians, being able to reach this extent is already rare for a good lord in the Fantasy World.

He wasn’t a believer of Tyr.

Hill also noticed, standing behind the Earl, was the city guard officer who had received him and the steward.

From the performance of the knights around him, they were all basically strong middle-aged men.

And those by Ditte’s side were mostly young people.

Although there were many scheming and intrigues, when truly encountering a crisis, human choices are pretty much the same.

Ah, no, let’s say, humans with humanity.

Hill gently sighed.

Hill knew he was never good at judging such complex humanity, which is why he naturally preferred interacting with single-celled organisms... even mischievous little fairies, to some degree, are easier to judge.

But creatures whose emotions and thoughts are overly complex are really too difficult for him to understand.

Hill could actually understand Alice’s kind of willfulness and irresponsibility... it’s her nature, indeed behaving like a cat, whatever it is, always based on her feelings; no matter how good others are to her, she must satisfy her own needs before considering others.

Even if she loves Hill very much, it doesn’t prevent her from loving herself more.

However, Hill himself is also someone who returns as much as he receives, so he doesn’t care about others’ emotional changes.

For Hill, when he had to send away his only childhood friend because of a change in identity, he knew his life was bound to be lonely... he could never invest so much sincere emotion in anyone again.

Otherwise, at that time, he wouldn’t feel alone and lonely.

Because he clearly knew once leaving him, leading a new life and finding new social circles, his friend would inevitably slowly forget those past 20 years.

It’s not that his friend no longer loves him, it’s just that human emotions are only so much; friendship is never the most important thing in life, the weight of kinship and love will always overwhelm everything.

Later, Hill would be kinder to Agleya, naturally moved by the girl’s overly sincere emotions.

He really didn’t expect Agleya would truly see him as her father.

But Hill could understand... especially after knowing Agleya had consciousness in her mother’s womb.

So her millennia of years in Spiral Pearls, even if she could rely on sleep to avoid some lonely and boring emotions, it was too tormenting.

Hill thinks if it were him, he would also go crazy.

So he really could understand why Agleya considers Hill, who rescued her from all that, as her only family, her only anchor.

And why a person like him would nurture a Chaos System Sea God.

Hill knew he couldn’t rely solely on the help of Natural Will to analyze and judge what mindset those approaching him hold and why, suddenly, they changed their attitudes, even inexplicably turning into enemies.

He actually thought he’d made some progress after his experience in Toril... but his experiences in Aesces told him no; sometimes, being older doesn’t mean having matured to understand everything.

Without genuinely crumbling into the mud, it’s impossible to have that sensitivity.

He was initially somewhat depressed, but after witnessing the exchanges between ’Snow Cloud Peak’ and ’Lu Huayu,’ he seemed to understand... even someone as cunning as ’Snow Cloud Peak’ needs many events to happen before truly judging what the other party thinks, so he values the opinions of ’Lu Huayu,’ who had struggled in the mire.

That subtle feeling is something someone like Hill could never obtain relying solely on his ability.

He is chasing something he inherently doesn’t possess.

Only relying on the passage of time, and the experiences slowly accumulated within it, might give him a chance to understand... but even then, it’s just recalling similar incidents from memory to alert himself.

Hill turned his head to look at List with a concerned expression, tilted his head and smiled: ”I just suddenly realized the principle of doing things at whatever age.”

Traveling is still useful, List.

At least I understand, there’s no need to rush to grow up.”

List blinked, and also smiled: ”So, you no longer hope to become someone like Elminster?”

”Ah... I...” Hill awkwardly turned back, ”I still hope that when I’m old, I can have his good mindset, but for the rest, forget it.”

Especially the romantic adventures of Elminster that he once dreamed of, he is now not interested in at all, not even daring to think about them.

Wait a minute, speaking of which, he has something he wants to ask Aesces... Hill suddenly remembers the Great Sage Ismael.

Having seen everything now, he can’t let any gossip slip by!

Hill quickly pulls out the letter paper Aesces gave him, pulls out a pen and writes with force: ’Did you give your luck to Ismael?’

’What do you mean?’

’One in a million! What kind of luck is that! Did he drown in a pile of dog shit?’

’Don’t talk like the Undead Tribe.’

’Did Snow Cloud Peak also ask you?’

’Still asking.

What he said is even worse than yours, asking me if I bet the luck of the Ismael Family over eight hundred generations!’

’So, did you do it?’

’Not me... but Ismael swore to heaven that as long as this child was the purest Ismael, he would offer the Ismael Family’s luck.’

’Huh?’

’The Styx seems to have accepted his oath.’

’What?!’

’Although every world has its own Lord of the Ming River, they can only be considered administrators, you know that, right?

Styx is willing to abide by the reasonable laws of each world, but he does not belong to any world.

Even I, faced with such a result, have no chance of changing it.’

’Then, what happens to your Ismael later?’

’He’s okay, he’s just not as lucky anymore.

But that’s because his soul and flesh only half belong to Ismael... You understand, right?’

Hill couldn’t help but feel confused... So, the Great Sage Ismael has lost his usual luck, but can still be a normal person.

But the other members of the Ismael Household, can only be, uh, born under a bad sign?

-----------------

Compared to Hill’s confusion, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ is more concerned about another matter: ’Then... what about Lucimar? Does he have to follow along in their misfortune?’

How can this be?

Heaven knows how difficult it is to find someone with a brain, reason, and full of trust and gratitude to Aesces, okay?

’Won’t affect Lucimar.’ Aesces doesn’t understand ’Snow Cloud Peak’s’ dilemma, ’Before Ismael made his oath, he had already expelled Lucimar from the family.

Even though it was under the guise of a split.

But Lucimar is just Baron Red Willow, unlike your Lind or Stelter with middle names.

After he made the oath, even abandoning the name Ismael was no use, but before that, separate is separate.’

’Snow Cloud Peak’ breathed a sigh of relief: ’Thank heavens!’

-----------------

Hill was also asking Aesces about related matters: ’But does this mean that even if Ismael dies, he cannot go to your Divine Kingdom?’

’He swore to Styx, so naturally he can only return to Styx.’

’I see you’re not unhappy.’

’Ah... I treat him as a friend, so I know very well that Ismael is not suited to the tedious life of the Divine Kingdom.

Instead, eternal sleep is good for him.’

’Stone-headed.’

’Why scold me? But isn’t that what friends should do, let him do what he loves?’

’Ha~ anyway, things have come to this point, don’t tell Ismael about this, let him be happy while he’s alive!’

-----------------

’Snow Cloud Peak’ burst into laughter, startling the Clan Leaders of various families gathered preparing to battle and dividing into war zones.

”Old Dog? What’s with the madness?” The ’Old Age Striking King’ following behind ’Perfect Bald’ raised his voice to ask.

”Aesces asked me why Hill wouldn’t let him tell Ismael that he can only sleep eternally in Styx now and that the Ismael Household, as long as there are living people, is certainly a magnet for misfortune.”

”He seriously said that?” The unanimous questioning proved the Undead Tribe’s doubts.
