Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1736: Chapter 313: Hill’s Bittersweet Emotions

Hill himself cannot achieve the ’Old Cat’s way of watching all the wonderful things outside without leaving home.

When he encounters something he truly wants to see for himself, he can’t help but want to witness it on site... How could someone else’s perspective match his thoughts so precisely?

But the ’Old Cat’ can even resist temptation during the most exciting times on the Path of Destiny of Toril.

Of course, it may also be because those strange and varied cats in the domain have captured his heart?

Although his contract partner is only the fattest, laziest, and craftiest old cat, the other kittens also like to roam around the town to watch the excitement.

Few from the Cat Tribe are willing to contract with outsiders; they prefer to not step out of Hill’s Valley at all.

Therefore, although they may be called by the remnants rooted in their bloodline when their abilities exceed a certain limit, they will not really be affected as long as they insist on staying within the protective range of that World Tree branch.

Other animals can also do this, even if they do not stay in Hill’s Valley, they can live near the Earth Temple and the Earth Bear Tribe’s lands.

Especially near the Earth Bear’s territory, the influence range is very far.

But this requires these magical beasts to live under the shelter of others; many magical beasts love freedom and power by nature, and it’s hard for them to suddenly give up everything to find a safe place to hide after dominating a territory.

After all, the call of those remnants only makes these magical beasts treat elves as enemies and kill all other races they see. Some magical beasts don’t care about that.

They think they’re not foolish enough to attack cities and appear under the eyes of the Undead Tribe... perhaps they have forgotten how wise and heroic the White Wolf King once was; even after being embraced by the Goddess, he was still doomed.

Of course, it could be because most of the magical beasts who understood how terrifying things were back then have already died under Merkel’s claws, and the remaining young ones have not reached the point where they cannot control their madness, so they take it lightly.

But the cats, because Alice joined those various cats in Hill Valley, were few who were willing to go with Alice to Merkel’s place; the rest didn’t mind living too close with their kin.

They can even rest on the same big tree... Hill saw a lot of cat tree videos spread by the Undead Tribe.

Before there was the World Tree branch, these cats generally would not leave the valley, and after the World Tree gave them enough security, they started roaming the streets.

Though they don’t usually mingle much with the Undead Tribe, they often quietly watch them going mad from an empty house next door.

Thus, Hill’s mayor ’Mr. Old Cat’ has fallen into his unique world of revelry... This young master, back when the cats didn’t leave the valley, would take a big bundle of food every day for a special trip to feed the cats.

When these cats came out, being the only one who could communicate with the Undead Tribe, he was so overjoyed that he filled the small square outside the mayor’s office with cat trees... in the middle of the cat trees was his recliner.

These cats are still very cautious, except for the undead settled in Hill’s domain, no matter how tempting other people’s food is, they absolutely won’t touch it.

After all, they certainly won’t starve, just crave.

So, if they really smell something special that makes a cat irresistible, they will go straight to ’Old Cat’ and ask for it... anyway, as long as they roll over in front of him, show their belly, and raise their paw with a ’meow,’ Old Cat will buy them anything.

A cat servant’s life is something others cannot understand.

However, Hill suspects that he may be the kind of person who cannot keep cats in real life, otherwise, a young master who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the Apocalyptic Boss, shouldn’t he be able to play with a cat house?

But he is actually quite pleased that his domain has an undead who can maintain order, so Hill not only keeps silent about this but is also deeply proud of his wise decision back then... truly didn’t pick the wrong person.

The others, though they return every now and then, still follow the major plots quite closely, especially... never mind, let’s not talk about the past, let’s not talk about the past.

Hill turned his eyes back to the giant screen, pulling out the message paper and very seriously writing a line: ’Can I watch the live broadcast from Luciella’s side?’

’William said it’s not suitable for children, can’t be broadcasted on the big screen.’

’You... They wouldn’t be outdoors, would they? You can show the outdoor scenery.’ How can Aesces still be so easily fooled at this point?

Does William not care about others as long as he can watch live himself? ’I have to ask.’

Hill hesitated for a moment: ’You, being so honest makes it a bit hard for me to adapt!

’That William of yours seems to know my character very well, so, almost every contract signed blocks all my independent paths.

Whenever I want to do something, that damned Temporal Artifact reminds me, according to the contract, you can’t make your own decisions.

It’s really annoying.

Don’t you Teraxil usually have whims like this?’

’Hearing this from you is really, so ironic.

Does Aesces have?

No, wait, they do.

After all, you want to manage it yourself but lack the ability, can only let others exploit loopholes.’

”Ah~ so, I want to watch a play, can I see it?”

”I’ll go ask right away, can you stop being sarcastic for a moment?”

”Ah~ when I’m in a good mood, being sarcastic to you can make my life feel more complete. When I’m in a bad mood, being sarcastic to you can fill the voids in my life.”

”So, are you in a good mood or a bad mood now?”

Hill smiled and said nothing... he also didn’t know if he was in a good mood or a bad mood right now.

Because thinking back to those early times, he’s filled with mixed feelings, but it seems like joy is still more dominant.

Aesces didn’t ask further. Although his friend occasionally went off-script, most of the time he was striving to help with his future, so he could understand when such moments occasionally occurred.

Besides, Aesces knew why Hill was upset, it was mostly because of him, like ninety-nine percent of the time.

A little exception here and there was not worth accounting for.

-----------------

Perhaps knowing that it was Hill who wanted to watch it, William quickly agreed to display the exterior of the Oasis Palace on the big screen.

In the past, on Toril, if you wanted to film under the enemy’s nose, you’d have to get Shaer to personally handle it... even if it was just a guise.

But in Aesces, as the World Master, hanging something quietly in a place without Divine Realm shielding was all too easy.

Actually, even if he opened it in the Divine Realm, it wouldn’t be a problem, but it would alert the Divine Realm’s owner, and they wouldn’t get what they wanted to see.

Of course, Hill mainly didn’t want to see the things William didn’t allow on the big screen.

He wanted to see how much divinity Rose had absorbed from Aphrodite... when it came to dark desires, Hill wasn’t worried, to be honest, any conflict between Rose and Shaer was normal.

But he very much wanted to know if Rose could seize an opportunity in the divinity of navigation.

After all, Celene of Toril didn’t pay much attention to this divinity, otherwise, even with a navigator’s divinity, human demigods with similar divinities wouldn’t have emerged.

There’s no other way, the Maiden of the Moon only guides the kind alignment and pitifully devout... however, how many good people are there on the vast sea of Toril?

Even in the sense of Toril’s good people.

Although Hill didn’t care about Toril’s internal strife, he didn’t want Rose to have any possibility of extending a hand to Agleya.

If Rose were indeed to display some divinity in this regard, Hill would have to increase his focus on Agleya Port and be constantly prepared for any unexpected impact from Luskan on Agleya and Hidden Town.

Whether Luskan would therefore detach from his territory, Hill didn’t care, but they must not be implicated... even though the Northern Seven Sisters survived that humiliating Path of Destiny, it could be said that their once tightly entwined fate with the Weave suffered quite a blow this time.

Following Toril’s usual style, they must crawl out of the follow-up series of messes with their own skills.

Like the Tower of Nature, now also undergoing its test.

However, having the opportunity to be tested proved that they still had a future ahead.

Unlike Harua, stripped of the title ’place under the Goddess of Magic’s watch’, now almost overtaken by thieves with nowhere to live from all over the world.

After all, what they once relied on, the little white ships taken from Nais Foresky City, all, um, fell onto the Chult Peninsula.

This is unlike the Chult of old under the big dinosaur’s rule, which while terrifying, wouldn’t touch genuinely powerful Transcendents.

The Transcendent masters who died in Chult back then mostly went to their deaths believing in the so-called ’Aishdo treasure’.

Yes, those who were killing at the time were also Shaer.

Not to mention, the current Chult is clearly under Shaer’s domain.

After losing the attentive gaze of Mystra, Harua no longer had anyone capable enough to walk confidently amidst darkness and shadow.

Even the Archmages of Harua who didn’t participate in the Chult disorder shared this fate.

After all, everyone knew it was parliamentary; without the majority’s agreement, those little white ships couldn’t be launched.

So, mages could only accept the reality of relying on their own power to survive.

Everyone creates their own paths; in Toril, no one sympathizes with such people, and they only take the opportunity to kick them while they’re down, never letting them back ashore.

So, Toril’s tens of millions of the Undead Tribe are quite content.

Especially upon discovering that all the thieves expelled by them headed for Harua.
