Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1595: Chapter 173: Snow Cloud Peak’s Schemes

Lind was a bit unsure about what the Undead Tribe Commander wanted him to do, so he directly looked towards ’Huayu’ behind ’Snow Cloud Peak’.

Seeing the unchanging smile on that face, he felt reassured and nodded, ”What do you want to know?”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ asked with a smile, ”My question might make you uncomfortable, but we will offer the best reward.

Once we have organized the camp on our side, we’ll all go out.

We have a method to determine whether a person is kind and simple.

If we encounter such people, we’ll bring them back for you to make them your subjects; how about it?

This reward should interest you, right?”

”Why would they leave their homes to come to such a remote valley?” Lind directly countered, ”For me to do this, I can understand...”

”They feel the same urgency, perhaps even more than you do,” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ said calmly, ”After all, you are considering your future, while they just want to survive.”

”What... do you mean?”

”According to our observation, the world of Aesces is likely to soon face a terrible drought, followed by a plague of insects,” ’Huayu’ interjected with a smile, ”The survival of peasants and farmers is likely to be threatened.

Even people by the sea are similarly affected, as recently, sea monsters are becoming more and more numerous. Although they seem to be strictly forbidden to harm the Professionals and us from the Undead Tribe, people without any energy and those like the Scaret People and Moon Clan are all on their hunting list.

With no fish to catch and no wild vegetables or fruits in the fields, many people are likely to live very hard.”

”What about my brother? What will he do?” Lind asked with a frown.

”Basia City won’t have any trouble,” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ smiled, ”You see, although Ellie is annoying, the Basia People find fishing quite easy.

No matter what, she wouldn’t let the citizens starve while she still wants to stay there, would she?

The Undead Tribe remaining there has plenty of food, as long as there’s money.

Even with the enormous consumption over the past few years, the Stelter Family wouldn’t let anyone go hungry.”

”My brother... he probably won’t get along well with the other side of the Undead Tribe,” Lind shook his head, ”He’s someone who adheres to the chivalric virtues, and he won’t be friendly towards them if he disapproves of their ways.

Since the relations are cold, he won’t go to them for better food just for temporary satisfaction.

If there’s really no food, he would have his Knight Corps rely on fishing for survival, as fishing is possible by the cliffs.

However, other people can buy food from the Undead Tribe, while only his Knight Corps cannot... You’re also a leader, how long do you think he can make these people endure?

Everything is fine as long as everyone is equally struggling.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ was taken aback, ”Ah... that’s something I hadn’t considered. So, Huayu, perhaps you should open a food shop temporarily?

Let’s see, if it still doesn’t work, I’ll have Thunder and the others negotiate with Ditte.”

He really hadn’t expected Ditte to be so stubborn.

If it were him, what does it matter if people say you’re shameless?

Who cares!

As long as one’s people can live well, that’s all that matters.

It’s not like trading with those people would lead to ridicule of his country, at most some fools might call him thick-skinned, but is that really something to be concerned about?

However, he realized that Ditte, at such a young age, was almost catching up to his father in power, likely because he truly endorsed and strictly adhered to those knight codes.

He had thought that Ditte’s future held many possibilities for this very reason!

Now, he couldn’t criticize the knight just because Ditte was a bit rigid... After all, he understood what Lind meant: if they couldn’t survive, Ditte wouldn’t be so stubborn.

But at the most, it’s a bit of hardship, not life-threatening, so Ditte is likely to persist a bit.

This can be resolved.

If food shortages occur in Basia City, causing Doomsday stores to run out of stock, then let Thunder and the team deliver there directly.

As for whether Eden will intercept them... heh heh~ as long as the materials are delivered, those who have already bound the Revival Point in Cain Valley would love the chance to enjoy and get a flight ticket back to the city!

Killing red-name players~ is always a delight in the mortal world.

Maybe there’ll even be competition for it.

As for the small-scale ambush games Eden might try with them, they won’t even know how they died.

Lind, satisfied with the answer, returned to his gentle smile, ”Then, I’m willing to answer your questions, of course, if I truly don’t want to answer...”

”Just refuse,” ’Huayu’ firmly responded to Lind, who was looking his way, ”I don’t know what Old Dog wants to ask you either, but we never force anyone.”

Lind, mimicking ’Huayu’s habitual faint smile, raised an eyebrow slightly... yes, with you, everything is a fair trade.

But fairness does not mean non-inducement.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ did not interfere with their surreptitious exchange, simply asking seriously, ”I want to know about your mental journey when you were influenced by the spider silk.

Especially during the time when your mindset was imbalanced, was there ever a moment when you questioned why you thought that way?”

”Often.” Lind gave the undead tribe commander a strange look, but about those things he had recalled countless times on many unpredictable nights, he answered quickly... and for some reason, maybe because the undead tribe are outsiders, even words difficult to say to Ditte were easy to reveal to ’Snow Cloud Peak’.

He smiled slightly, speaking slowly, ”You see, at that time, I could also consider myself fortunate, the most favored youngest son, even if Ellie received better treatment, it was for a reason.

Although my parents said nothing, the external environment made me understand what those unspoken difficulties were.

Besides, even if at times they inadvertently gave up on me, it was only for a fleeting moment.

Normally, a child wouldn’t feel it.

But I could notice what happened in those brief instants... once, twice perhaps could be endured, but over time, hmm... one’s heart can hardly bear so much sensitivity.

Then, I saw Ellie.

At first, Ellie was actually much like me.

We each had our own merits and faults, and during that time, I could still bear it, after all... we were the same.

As it turned out, due to her extraordinarily good luck, she gradually became the Basia Rose, the fortunate daughter of the Stelter Family, and then there was only me left.

After that, all the giving up belonged to me.

But this was all due to external pressure; logically speaking, as a son who had already received much, I shouldn’t have been so entangled.

Yet, each time, I could feel my... nearly twisted heart.

The brighter Ellie’s smile, the more tangled my heart would become.

Hey~

If it weren’t for the appearance of Great Sage Belfran, I probably would have done more wrong... even if Ditte returned, I wouldn’t be able to turn back.

But the discovery of the mutated silk spider and my status as a victim gave me a place to shift all my faults at that time, so instead, I could turn back.

Then, during that period, I also received a lot of moonlight and sunlight baptism, which indeed seemed to clear the mind a little.

And...”

He blinked gently, ”I think what cleared my mind the most was the Concentration Potion you sold.

That thing, when drunk, feels like taking an ice bath; the Mental Sea feels frozen, cold enough to clear the mind.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ was surprised by Lind’s candid response.

He quickly recorded some content, then nodded with a smile, ”This is enough, thank you for your help.”

”Can you tell me, what’s the point of knowing these things?” Lind asked curiously, ”To be honest, there aren’t many as unlucky as me.

Most people at most have their emotions amplified by the spider silk, and the damage isn’t very large.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ pressed his forehead, ”You know, we came to Aesces with a mission that must be completed?”

Lind obediently nodded, ”Yes. I heard from Thunder that you must eliminate ninety-five percent of the mutated silk spiders in this world to complete it.”

”Actually, the initial eighty percent is the easiest to deal with.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ waved the tablet in his hand, ”But if the mutated silk spiders were really that easy to find, Rose would have already caused trouble.

There are some with particularly high levels of mutation, even to the extent they have integrated into human lineage through reproduction, which are difficult to detect with our equipment.

Especially those special ones, though they no longer consider themselves as humans, they know exactly what they are, making them even harder to catch.”

He smiled slightly, ”You should also know, the elves of this world took their full load of silk spiders to our Teraxil, and it took Father of Elves, an existence even stronger than your World Master, to destroy those spiders that hadn’t even left the Forest of the Elves.

But Aesces can’t do that... unless the entire human population of this world is wiped out.

The only thing I’m grateful for is that these mutated silk spiders mostly appear amongst and around the Nobles.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ stood up and smiled at Lind, ”You really are the unluckiest, but also the most representative.

At least it showed me that they indeed know what they’ve done and are easily triggered by certain things.

We, the undead tribe, possess a precious Strange Object that can make people tell the truth.

But, we need to figure out how to ask the right questions first~

After all, it’s easy to let humans feel repentance, as for the spiders, especially Rose’s spiders~ ha~ that’s a dream.

But targeting the features of sensitivity, quick temper, and jealousy, it’s easy to find a clue.”

Lind’s eyes shrank instantly, and he silently nodded.
