Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1585: Chapter 163: Hill, Why Are You So Good!

For the current sovereign figures of Danboro, they can only be grateful that the Undead Tribe’s demands for compensation are quite simple: a piece of territory located in a remote corner, coupled with the elevation of a lord from the divided Stelter Family to the rank of baron, conferred upon that place.

Although there is economic compensation involved, it’s not about money, just various minerals and some basic-level crystal energy technology materials.

Even Scaret possesses those items, so giving a portion to the Undead Tribe is certainly not an issue, especially when it allows materials stolen from other countries that are unsuitable for inclusion within Danboro to have some use.

Ha~ Even if those people realize Danboro’s tactics, would they dare approach the Undead Tribe and demand that they refrain from using them?

The Danboro Royal Family and the Noble Council reached a consensus in this manner, and delegated the task to the Undead Tribe to swiftly deliver the document of nobility to Lind.

However, Count Stelter, upon hearing the news, found himself unable to rejoice: though he was forced to sacrifice Lind’s share of interests, as a father, he truly did not wish for a complete breakdown in his relationship with his youngest son.

If it weren’t for the sudden outbreak of the situation concerning Ellie, he wouldn’t have been so harsh with Lind; his youngest son’s mistakes were significant but were resolved before causing any harm.

Hence, he was actually planning to elevate Lind to the position of Earl using some connections after becoming an official mage.

While not entirely satisfactory for Lind, this could be regarded as a form of compensation... In light of Lind’s prior errors, this outcome would actually please him considerably.

Thus, even if Lind dislikes this sudden incident, he will still have some familial sentiments.

But now... Count Stelter suspects that apart from Ditte, his youngest son might be able to watch other family members die before his eyes without flinching.

The child’s heart is harder than stone.

When discovering that even Helena knew nothing of this matter, Count Stelter realized he needed to have a meaningful conversation with Lind.

However, Lind had already quietly moved his belongings to the cliff.

Even though he had many possessions, the spatial gear from the Undead Tribe was reasonably priced, prompting Lind to decisively purchase a few... after all, ’Lu Huayu’ offered him the insider rate.

The items sold by the shops in Basia City are much more expensive; the Undead Tribe stated they cannot easily alter Aescian pricing for fear of provoking trouble from the World Master.

Though Ditte and Lind’s teacher frequently returned to the castle, they sided with Lind in this matter... or rather, they believed the Count’s efforts were futile, and time would be a better remedy.

After all, Lind understood Count Stelter’s actions... he just couldn’t accept the reality that he was the sacrifice, and worse, sacrificed due to Ellie.

Ditte comprehended the actions of Count and Countess Stelter, but he couldn’t fathom why they had to conceal everything from Lind... despite his younger brother being somewhat selfish and naughty, he’s not someone who can’t face reality.

If everything were clearly explained to him, along with the promised compensations, Lind would weigh the pros and cons.

During negotiations with the Undead Tribe, Lind was certainly savvy!

Ditte didn’t quite agree with his parents hiding things from Lin and himself, hence he wasn’t willing to pressure Lind into accepting the Earl’s conciliatory conversation at this time.

Basia City and Stelter Castle fell into a peculiar stalemate... especially after Ellie once again strutted into the Hall of Abundance, began issuing orders to the Undead Tribe siding with her.

Having received early intelligence, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ and his allies began preparing for relocation, leaving the camp to the Eden and ’White Sail Dian Dian’ group, who had better relations with Basia City NPCs... after all, even in the city NPCs had attacked the Proud Sky Alliance Hierarch, how could they dare to stay?

The scattered ones felt somewhat puzzled.

On the day the battle ended, the Endless Vines along the long dike suddenly disappeared... the Proud Sky Alliance was notoriously domineering, unlikely to share their city defenses with enemies, which the scattered ones understood.

However, the sea monsters continuously surfacing could equally suppress the opposing Moon Clan, if not better... the Endless Vines merely trapped people without killing, while sea monsters could severely wound the opponents.

Allowing them to easily pick up advantages.

Yet Scaret seemingly increased assault due to the sea monsters, and previously uninvolved NPCs began entering the fray.

This was understandable; it was widely known that Hill, who was exceedingly impatient with Ellie, had swiftly departed from Basia after the onset of the Undead Tribe internal conflict.

There was no information yet on whether Hill left Aesces or visited another city, but Basia could no longer harness the strength of this Great Sage.

As long as Ellie and her allies remained in Basia, Hill certainly wouldn’t return... his disdain was so overt, even the most sycophantic individuals in Eden could barely muster any flattering words.

Hill’s Lily of the Valley proved it all.

The Undead Tribe swiftly delivered the document to Lind’s hands... As the one controlling everything, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ ensured the task was handed to their Proud Sky Alliance members.

Thus, with virtually no delay, as Ditte’s noble document lingered in the previous city, Lind already formally became Baron Cain.

This name was chosen by Lind from a list unearthed from the Undead Tribe’s archives, conveying a straightforward meaning: people of the eastern sky.

Rather than ambiguous names like Kolani which imply associations with skies and chiefs... those women laughed! Could he not see?

Lind still felt that these two words matched his name quite well.

Then he decisively decided to travel with the Undead Tribe... Lu Huayu’s carriage was quite comfortable, and Lind even had his own room!

Whether it was the mounts or the carriages of the Undead Tribe, both were very fast.

However, they always ended up taking the wrong paths.

Lind couldn’t understand why, with the seaside road being so straight, they would inexplicably end up on peaks that were obviously not roads. But seeing the undead, who, despite patting the heads of a few of the leading figures, were still full of enthusiasm, he figured this was part of their daily fun?

He, as a hitchhiker, found it unnecessary to say much.

After all, he hadn’t taken anyone from Basia City with him.

Lind leaned against the window of the carriage, feeling a bit dejected.

He could understand that most of the knights around his brother were very loyal to him. After all, Lind never doubted Ditte’s charm.

After following his brother for a few years, few would consider leaving... except for those few who were deceived to their deaths by Ellie. If they hadn’t thought Ellie would never harm Ditte, they wouldn’t have colluded with her in secret.

After all, for many Aescesians, the arrival of the Undead Tribe was something they had to endure, not welcome.

Those few people just still regarded Ellie as the former lady, which is why they fell for it.

But he treated the people around him well too!

After his mother and the housekeeper sent these people to him, knowing that these children were talents prepared for his future Baron’s Domain, how could Lind possibly treat them poorly?

However, in the days when he clung to Ditte’s side without returning to the castle, and during the rumors that he might lose his noble territory, these people began to waver.

Lind let out a cold laugh... Of course, he knew that as long as he persisted, those who claimed they didn’t want to leave their parents and planned to spend more time with their families in the castle would still follow him.

But why should he?

In daily life, the Undead Tribe promised to sell him some life golems at a cheap price, and with various crystalline energy household items, he who only wanted to pursue the path of a mage could completely abandon these people!

He understood that doing so would make him more passive... but Lind knew himself very well and didn’t want to give himself any opportunity to regret.

He just clung to the window and glanced back twice: he was a bit worried about his brother.

The reason Ditte didn’t want to return to the castle to see the Stelter Count and Countess these days was also because they hadn’t told him how much Ellie had interacted with his subordinates, so much so that they were polluted from soul to body!

He was a sincere person and naturally wouldn’t monitor his own family, so he really knew nothing about it.

Ditte could understand Count Stelter’s idea of needing some time to observe, but he still felt a bit confused, and the situation with Lind also made him disagree with some of Count Stelter’s actions.

So he built a new castle for his followers... with his nature, even if he took over the position of Earl, he wouldn’t fight his father for power.

But those who followed him certainly wouldn’t yield to the confidants of the former Earl again... even if the power transition was slow, there needed to be a beginning.

So Ditte took all these people to this place.

Things in Basia City aside, Stelter Castle was his parents’ home, and he didn’t want to make his parents uncomfortable... but in many matters, Ditte knew he wouldn’t act according to his father’s will.

Like Lind.

There would definitely still be many connections between him and Lind, but he absolutely didn’t want his father to use this connection to make Lind continue to sacrifice for Ditte.

He loved his little brother and never thought about asking for anything in return, but his father always believed that love is love, and use must be use.

Ditte didn’t know if he would become like his father in the future, but at least now, he was himself.

Standing on the cliff, he looked south... hoping Lind was well.

Lind was doing well.

Especially when he discovered what kind of shock that Great Sage Belfran had experienced.

The Undead Tribe was also quite surprised... why did Little Bear suddenly become so generous, having almost completed building the valley for them?

Hill not only leveled the valley but also built a small city for them!
