Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1590: Chapter 168: Trouble Brews When the Spoils Are Unevenly Divided

Hill’s silence didn’t affect the Undead Tribe much.

In their minds, Hill was just a trailblazer, and once the path was paved, he essentially vanished.

As for any interactions with him, it would either be a significant world event requiring Hill to personally take on a major boss, or those Undead Tribes with personal ties to Hill could visit his home and perhaps acquire some good items.

As for commerce, in a low-rank world like Aesces, what opportunities did Hill have to exploit?

Even carving a piece of jewelry or sculpting a decoration would be beyond limits.

However, the Undead Tribe enjoys themselves here quite a lot... Hill’s method of making displays seems reminiscent of legendary antique electronics crafting~

The Undead Tribe quickly realized that perhaps the old stuff in technology museums could use the Energy Baryte, which can be shaped into energy sources of various sizes, to be manufactured?

They had thought about playing with this idea before, but... well, their energy sources couldn’t be lowered to such levels, and many were curious as to why ancient people didn’t get burned by energy when using such fragile tools.

There’s no way, even at the lowest level, planets with Star Alliance contact have energy sources that surpass a certain level.

They know about coal and oil, these legendary low-grade energy sources, but exactly how low — for ordinary people not specializing in ancient history — it’s really hard to guess.

Now, it’s good~ the energy of the world Aesces seems to lean toward that era~

Although many things are unusable due to different energy foundations, the ability to research just one thing is enough reason for them to be proud for a long time.

Hill’s spontaneous acts actually helped the Proud Sky Alliance with a minor issue.

After all, most commercial noble families, even if they worked hard to enter the forefront of the Military Exploits Rankings, their goal was to make money... only by closely following the mainstream and advancing a step beyond most people could they earn money.

And the emergence of television piqued their interest greatly.

So, even if Basia City’s Eden offered very high discounts and even fully opened Ellie’s Hall of Abundance after renovation, they hesitated not in rushing toward the Barony of Cain.

Hill used to like exploring the Hall of Abundance, but at this moment, it was in a most embarrassing period, from the noblest shop to a genuine rustic market.

The human nobles of Basia aren’t foolish; they wouldn’t continue to set up shop under the foot of something unknown.

Even if the employees and managers are worthless, their luxury items couldn’t be thrown away... not to mention, who would they sell them to?

Which noble dares to go shopping at the Hall of Abundance... no, rather, how many nobles in Basia City haven’t temporarily sent their children to other cities?

There’s no other way, Eden could only prop up the Hall of Abundance itself... in these people’s view, as long as their goods are cheap enough and purchasing is fast enough, there will always be impoverished Basia people daring enough to come in and trade.

They weren’t wrong in their thinking; after all, people from the slums could feed a whole family by spending ten Copper Coins, and they naturally wouldn’t be scared by the so-called Evil God which hasn’t targeted them yet... besides, Ellie’s enormous figure doesn’t seem as terrifying.

Moreover, because most affluent people, even the middle class, no longer enjoy going out shopping now, anyone diligent enough can find work in Basia City.

A day’s errand fees would be enough to feed their whole family, and there might even be some savings!

And, those bold enough to directly shop at the Hall of Abundance could earn some extra money... for instance, a bread normally sold for 10 Copper Coins would only need 8 Copper Coins at the shops run by the Undead Tribe in the Hall of Abundance.

The people hiring them to run errands might not know the prices at the Hall of Abundance... or rather, even if they know, they pretend not to know.

After all, it’s the only place with enough resources left in the city, and they wouldn’t dare to say they won’t consume items from there.

So, though there’s no trace of the past flavors, at least there’s a bit of fake bustle.

Life in Basia City entered a peculiar and awkward atmosphere.

Although the events in the Stelter Family were often publicly ridiculed, who wasn’t secretly envious... even if everyone in Basia was wiped out, wouldn’t there still be a lineage outside?

At least the title wouldn’t be lost.

Count Stelter was quietly thoughtful in his actions, not throwing a tantrum over his youngest son’s rebellion, wasn’t it because he considered this fact?

As for the family’s other members’ frustrations... who cares?

During that period, many families gave Lind scornful gazes, and if it weren’t for Ditte consistently showing brotherly affection for Lind, Lind’s situation would have been worse... but who could blame him for doing such a disgraceful thing to the family!

People just wanted to sever ties to avoid future trouble: for instance, when Lind splits from the family, needing secretaries or aides from family members, those with good relations with him would undoubtedly be first in line.

It’s understandable, isn’t it?

But... Lind, knowing these facts, nonetheless didn’t plan to consider his clan’s hardships, and his complete antagonism left most people dissatisfied.

However, if Ditte did such a thing, it might cause a storm, but Lind?

Everyone knows this young master is inherently selfish and vengeful.

The Stelter Family’s branch members could only grumble privately; public remarks seemed to invite embarrassment like calling someone a ’fool,’ or similar quips.

The once-prosperous luxury shops across several floors in the Hall of Abundance weren’t reopened after the high-level Magical Swordsman’s death from Capital.

Savvy people understand that even if an Evil God might seem courteous and rule-abiding for some time, it’s only because she wants something now.

Whether she gets it or not, she’s bound to flip in the end.

Not to mention, no one believes that she could succeed.

If she had that capability, why did the Great Sage Belfran instantly bolt, and she showed no response?

Clearly unattainable!

While many sneered at the Evil God’s capabilities, they didn’t want to give her any leverage.

However, based on the Rune Master Temple and Sun Moon Great Priest’s unfazed demeanor, it seems the matter remains within Aesces’s control, and the World Master appears to have his own plans for her, so Basia’s top echelon, especially the nobles, aren’t considering retreat yet.

Besides, if they left at this point and Basia hadn’t yet experienced a city-wide calamity, wouldn’t that mean they’d handed over a prime position?

In these times, securing a spot to support the family isn’t easy!

And the Undead Tribe, even amidst an internal conflict shocking enough to leave Basia people speechless... someone was willing to follow the Evil God to confront their own — and that’s those who wouldn’t die. But the World Master evidently placed no restrictions on them, so the Basia people’s sense of crisis didn’t weigh as heavily.

Even the two colleagues of that high-level Magical Swordsman remained seated, unmoving!

Of course, that’s because though both are from the royal family’s assignment, they came from the formal military, whereas that one was from the Royal Palace, inherently incongruous.

Ideally, they’d have been recalled to the Royal Capital to report due to the trouble their colleague caused, and never regain local control... but since Basia suddenly became a foul entity, what’s the point?

For those holding power in the Capital, rather than pull these two back and then haggle over the personnel list for dispatch, why not let them redeem their mistakes?

After all, if Ellie indeed targets Basia City, being Danboro soldiers... especially with families remaining in the Capital, they’d need to lead the charge personally.

The complex thoughts of Basia’s people remained incomprehensible to the Undead Tribe from Eden; instead, they indulged in the excitement of possessing, even snatching territory from the famously mighty ’Snow Cloud Peak’ in the East!

Even though ’White Sail Dian Dian’ cried daily over her newly found love, lamenting her ruined reputation... despite being admittedly headstrong, she’s never foolish.

The young nobleman from Eden truly holds affection for her; otherwise, she wouldn’t have pushed so far, leaving the past entirely behind.

Such an emotional mind is hard to tolerate among the pragmatic Eden people, but finding such a unique girl here is difficult, so the heir accustomed to the indulgent love of the West genuinely treasures her.

Every day, he holds her for strolls along the embankment, offering quiet comfort and gentle words.

Most dismiss it, but those who’ve toiled hard like ’Tanya’ for their young master find it challenging to tolerate.

After all, each time she reports the news, she hears the young nobleman attributing Eden’s victory entirely to ’White Sail Dian Dian.’

’Tanya’ admits that without ’White Sail Dian Dian’s help, they wouldn’t have achieved such success... as those rebels in Proud Sky Alliance communicated because of ’White Sail Dian Dian.’

But she negotiated! She painstakingly hammered out each condition!

How come... all credit goes to a... huh, a woman who couldn’t live without a man!
