Chapter 759: Chapter 33: The Ex-Manager (3)

This season, Huang Mourinho bluntly responded to Wenger: ”Wenger doesn’t need to meddle in others’ business. He should explain to Arsenal fans why his team hasn’t won anything for five years.”

This comment is somewhat understandable, after all, the feud between Mourinho and Wenger has a long history.

As early as 2005, Mourinho had insulted Wenger, saying: ”I think he’s a peeping Tom, likes to peep at others.”

Moreover, for Mourinho, championship trophies mean everything.

At the age of 47, Mourinho tasted the joy of a Champions League title, and he often uses this to belittle others.

In 2008, while coaching Inter Milan, Mourinho attacked Ranieri: ”He’s almost 60 years old but only won a Super Cup. This means he has only achieved a minor trophy with no significant honors. Maybe he should change his mindset, but he’s too old; I’m afraid it’s too late.”

In the same year, Mourinho also labeled journalists as ”prostitutes of the intellectual world,” and disdainfully remarked: ”No one says anything about the Roma Team. They have so many good players but end the season empty-handed, the same goes for AC Milan and Juventus.”

In response, Spalletti, the then-coach of Roma, preparing for the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester United, was furious: ”I didn’t expect Mourinho to say something like that.”

Another target of Mourinho’s attacks was Benitez.

After Benitez took over as Inter Milan’s coach, Mourinho arrogantly said Benitez should thank him instead of criticizing him, as he left behind a championship team for the Spanish coach.

Previously, Benitez had stated that after taking over Inter Milan, he found the team’s physical condition to be terrible. To this, Mourinho retorted mercilessly: ”Hodgson, who succeeded Benitez at Liverpool, is in a tough spot because Liverpool has been declining over the years, getting worse year by year.”

Sometimes, Mourinho speaks disdainfully of other coaches.

When mentioning Mancini, who coached Inter Milan before him, Mourinho said: ”His results won’t pressure me; I’m not interested in that at all.” Serie A well-known coach Zeman, who played attacking football at Lazio and Roma, once said Mourinho is good at team management, but his teams play ugly football.

To this, Mourinho dismissively said: ”I don’t know who Zeman is.”

Even current England coach Capello didn’t escape Mourinho’s mockery. ”England’s problem lies with the coach. He shouldn’t make substitutions on a whim or simply yell at the players. Players need respect, and this is obvious; you can ask the Real Madrid players. Capello is not suitable for leading the England Team,” said Mourinho.

After arriving in Spain, Mourinho clashed with several coaches, including Preciado.

After Sporting Gijon’s away loss to Barcelona, Mourinho remarked: ”If Barcelona’s opponents don’t actively capitulate, Barca will find it hard to win the league title.”

In that match, Sporting Gijon fielded many substitute players but narrowly lost 0-1. Upon learning of Mourinho’s remarks, Sporting Gijon coach Preciado was incensed, rudely saying: ”If Mourinho really said that, he’s a big idiot.” Unlike Preciado, so far, Pellegrini has refused to engage in a war of words with Mourinho.

Obviously, as a former manager, Pellegrini wants to prove himself on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Baptista, rejuvenated at Malaga, also responded: ”We’re in very good form, and after he said what he did, we’re all willing to step up for our coach.”
