Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 250: Chapter 241 Duobato, Old Man is Here

As Zhang Chengzhi gave the command, soldiers quickly set the oxen’s tails alight with oil. The previously calm oxen felt the scorching heat and boiled sensation at their tails, immediately let out a pained bellow, then started to stampede.

The fire grew larger and the herd more ferocious, speeding up their pace.

Soon, the rumbling sounds echoed through the peaceful night sky.

Inside the clan area, many of the Kolcha clan members heard the noises and looked towards the direction it came from.

However, they were almost shocked out of their wits shortly after.

The herd was still miles away from them, and they couldn’t make out that it was a stampede of oxen, only seeing widespread fires.

”What is that?”

Someone asked, puzzled.

But no one answered him.

Yet, there were those responsible for the night patrol who made alarm signals, droning the somber horn.

Woo woo woo~~~

Instantly, the sleeping clan grounds stirred up.

”What’s going on?”

Duobato rushed out from his tent, asking his servant beside him.

”No, no, no idea!”

At this time, the servant had no clue what was happening, only hearing the warning horns.

Duobato’s face turned incredibly grim, his mind racing with thoughts.

A night raid?

That was the only explanation, and the best one.

He forced himself to calm down; he needed to understand the situation first before responding.

While he waited for the patrolling clansmen, the oxen from the east had already charged close to the clan grounds.

Moo~~

Moo~~

Pained bellows of the oxen sounded.

Balls of raging fire broke into Kolcha’s clan ground; the low earthen walls couldn’t stop the herd’s onslaught.

As for the Kolcha clansmen, watching the frenzied, flaming oxen charge towards them, none dared to block their path, all scrambling to escape.

The sounds of stampeding and uproar drew nearer, Duobato’s expression became increasingly awful.

”Banner Master, it’s bad, there are oxen, so many on fire!” a group of dust-covered clansmen reported as they ran up.

But their explanations were unclear, and Duobato couldn’t comprehend what was happening.

”What are you saying? What’s wrong with the oxen?”

He asked fiercely.

”There are a lot of oxen on fire charging into our clan ground!”

”Oxen!”

Duobato was stunned, completely frozen as he saw an ox, about to be consumed by flames, charging towards him.

No, not one, rather...

The fire burned fiercer, the robust oxen plunged into utter desperation and madness, recklessly sprinting forward.

In less than half a moment, they spread from the east side of the clan ground to the center.

At that instant, shouts and cries of battle suddenly erupted from both the south and north sides of the clan ground.

Duobato faintly heard the cries of battle, his body jolted.

”Meet the enemy!”

He shouted angrily, immediately getting on his horse along with his personal followers to head to the battlefield.

A clan is still a clan, even if Kolcha had a complete military system internally, in many aspects they were far inferior to Da Rong’s army.

Such as military discipline, command structure, and emergency measures, among others.

Of course, these things also required people to execute them. Da Rong did well in this respect, but if the executing people were flawed, then the rules and systems were no use.

Hence, the previous military laxity at Chongshan Town couldn’t handle the East Sea Hu Clan at all.

Yet now, after years of reorganization and nearly being rebuilt, with both sides clashing again, the weaknesses of the Hu Clan became even clearer.

At Duobato’s command, a large number of able-bodied men surged towards the south.

But on the north side, Yang Zhenshan entered as if it was uninhabited, raising his slaughtering sword at will.

The east side of the clan ground was engulfed in a huge fire, the crazed herd of oxen completely drowned in a sea of flames.

The south side of the clan ground erupted with continuous clashing sounds, Wang Bin and the rescue camp were caught in a hard battle.

To the north, no, Yang Zhenshan had already led the garrison to penetrate into the center of the clan ground.

Thousands of cavalrymen swept through like a torrential flood, quickly advancing to the central area of the clan ground, but Yang Zhenshan soon noticed something was wrong.

The center of Kolcha’s clan ground, specifically where the Banner Master’s tent was located, should have been the most fortified area. However, arriving there, he found the defenses surprisingly lax, almost no able-bodied men in sight, just the elderly, weak, women, and children!

”Not good!”

Yang Zhenshan’s eyes squinted sharply, and he looked abruptly towards the south.

Obviously, Duobato had taken people there.

At this moment, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t care less about other matters, and directly shouted, ”Don’t panic, those behind, follow me!”

Although they held the advantage of a surprise attack, even though the Fire Bull Formation had plunged most of the clan ground into a sea of flames, even though their plan had successfully thrown Kolcha into chaos, the strength of Kolcha was still not to be underestimated.

Kolcha boasted tens of thousands of able-bodied men; even if only half participated, that was enough to make Wang Bin and his rescue camp struggle intensely.

More critically was Duobato.

Duobato possessed cultivation almost equivalent to Postnatal Ninth Layer while Wang Bin only had Postnatal Eighth Layer; if these two confronted each other, Wang Bin’s situation was predictable.

Thinking of this, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t help but worry.

”Han Cheng, Ming Zhen, Dashan, leave this place to you guys!”

He dropped a sentence and let Red Cloud gallop towards the south.

At this time, Han Cheng, Yang Mingzhen, and Song Dashan were leading the soldiers to clear the fleeing Northern barbarians while moving towards the south.

Various facilities within the banner territory hindered the cavalry’s charge. Although they tried to move towards open areas as much as possible, their speed was much slower.

When the three of them looked up, they only saw Yang Zhenshan alone on a horse disappearing among the felt tents.

”Keep up, keep up!” Han Cheng roared as he moved towards the south.

Meanwhile, the southern side of the banner territory had already descended into chaos.

Flames blazed, and the cries of battle thundered.

The Rescue Camp’s three thousand cavalrymen were surrounded by the incoming Northern barbarians, losing their mobility, and the cavalry’s combat effectiveness greatly diminished, plunging the soldiers into a tough battle.

Wang Bin commanded the soldiers to break out while fighting fiercely.

The situation was much more troublesome than he had anticipated.

He had initially thought that after the banner territory was overwhelmed by the Fire Bull Formation, it would descend into chaos and be powerless to resist. In reality, although the Kolcha clan indeed fell into chaos, Duobato still managed to organize a substantial number of Northern barbarians to counterattack.

”Kill!” Wang Bin, wielding a long saber, swept away two Northern barbarians in front of him. Just as he was about to turn around to check on his soldiers, a fierce saber edge suddenly attacked from his left side.

The saber edge was sharp and ruthless, aiming straight for his throat.

Wang Bin’s heart skipped a beat, and almost instinctively, he leaned back.

In a moment of urgency, he failed to stabilize his stance and fell off his horse, but this allowed him to dodge the sudden strike.

However, before he could react, Duobato’s saber edge chopped down at him again.

”General!”

At this moment, Wang Bin’s trusted aide reacted as well, and a young aide fearlessly threw himself forward to block the saber for him.

Wang Bin watched in horror as his aide was cleaved apart.

”Duobato!”

He roared in anger and raised his saber to meet the attack.

Both were skilled in using sabers. Duobato wielded a curved saber with tricky and variable moves, while Wang Bin used the Yan Ling Saber, each move showing fierce dominance.

However, Duobato was indeed stronger than Wang Bin.

In fact, Yang Zhenshan had misjudged. Duobato was not in the Postnatal Ninth Layer but the Postnatal Eighth Layer.

But his strength surpassed those of the same level of cultivation.

Yang Zhenshan relied on Spiritual Spring Water to make his physique far superior to ordinary people, while Duobato had innate divine strength.

Therefore, with their cultivation levels being roughly equivalent, Duobato’s combat power was stronger.

Wang Bin and Duobato both had similar levels of cultivation, having broken through to the Postnatal Eighth Layer for several years, and both were veterans of many battles.

But Wang Bin ultimately could not match Duobato’s innate divine strength. After more than ten moves, Wang Bin fell into a disadvantage.

With a splattering noise, the pale saber blade cut through Wang Bin’s shoulder, blood spraying.

”Stop him!”

Seeing Wang Bin outmatched, his trusted aides did not retreat but desperately shielded him in front.

”Damn it!”

Wang Bin cursed again.

Duobato sneered continuously. ”With such skills, you dare to night raid my Kolcha clan!”

”Damn thief!”

Wang Bin burst out with more curses, picked up a long saber from the ground, and charged at Duobato again.

He understood that retreating now had no meaning; it was the only desperate fight.

They couldn’t retreat now, but they were not entirely hopeless.

They still had Yang Zhenshan, and they still had the An Yuan City garrison.

As long as they held on, Wang Bin believed that Yang Zhenshan would surely come to their aid.

The two clashed again, but Wang Bin was already not as strong as Duobato, and now, with serious injuries, he appeared even weaker.

It was fortunate that his trusted aides were willing to fight desperately for him, barely managing to hold on.

Just when Wang Bin’s trusted aides suffered heavy casualties, and just as Wang Bin was about to falter, suddenly a commotion arose on the battlefield.

”Duobato, Old Man is here, aren’t you coming to die!”

A loud and clear shout resounded throughout the battlefield.

Time was pressing, the battlefield was chaotic, Yang Zhenshan had arrived, but at this moment he could not find Duobato and Wang Bin.

Hearing Yang Zhenshan’s voice, Wang Bin’s previously faltering body suddenly surged with great strength.

”Brother Yang, over here!”

Now was not the time to worry about face; any later and his life would genuinely be left here.

His trusted aides also knew that salvation had come and loudly called out.

”Master Yang!”

”Master Yang!”

Shouts echoed.

Duobato’s face changed again and again, violently killing a few aides blocking in front of Wang Bin.

”Damn!”

He had to kill Wang Bin first. Although he did not know Wang Bin’s identity, he knew this person must be an important figure.

The curved saber swept, Wang Bin raised his saber to block.

With a clang, the long saber in his hand slipped and flew out.

Wang Bin’s heart sank instantly.

Damn it!

He had almost made it, were they really going to fail at the last moment?
